  1. Great gesture. well done Specialized.
  2. Its Joburg, LOCK your stuff up tight. This sort of thing happens often at race events too. shopping mall in the parking lot for thieves, with easy exit along with the rest of the eventgoers.
  3. be clear what you are doing and be fully prepared to use your gun or you might find yourself on its sharp end. make sure you have witnesses that will corroborate that you used it to protect your life, otherwise you will be charged.
  4. Rocket Ron, Racing Ralph, Nobby Nic are all different models with different tread patterns. These all come in Evo and Snakeskin versions, which have differing sidewall thikness. I enjoy the Rocket Ron. You are using the Evo version which although "tubeless ready" are extremely thin and light weight. You can expect sidewall airloss and the cut you describe. This can be avoided to a degree by using the snakeskin version which is heavier, as it has heavier sidewalls protection. You can also concentrate on rideing a better line Although you add to the weight of your machine, you have more peace of mind with the snakeskin version. This doesnt guarantee no punctures or cuts, but they are more robust.
  5. very awesome, and its a S C...
  6. Awaiting the replacement of my Lurcher from th UK, seat tube cracked after 2.5 month of riding. love that bike, *tears...
  7. SAWEEET.
  8. Excellent idea, I hope it goes well.
  9. Worried to see that Berg n Dale price has jumped too. R250 now. Is the idea to get it on par with 94.7 and Argus? in that case there had better be full road closure too...
  10. if you have a 29er frame, you can obviously use smaller wheels, not vice versa.
  11. Yup, visited the store today. First impression: wow! impressive double volume space, suggesting lots to see. Then a few minutes of walkabout reveals that the new store is great if you are looking for a new bike or are a first time buyer. Many, many complete bikes to look at - suggests the retail floor is now the new warehouse, and a complete range of bikes can be viewed rather than only a few as in other bike shops. As for small items and specific upgrades or special items (Like a chainkeeper I could not be helped with), this still is not catered for, and generally the small items in the old store has just been transferred to the new space. Nothing new here. Special prices - well mmm the sale catalogue lists a few The service area looks really well set out, specific workstations per bike, no doubt makes the mechanics job a pleasure. Nice to see JB and say hello. Good to see the service area pretty busy.
  12. I hope Johan has a speedy recovery. Terrible. Taxis up and down the yellow lanes on Main all the time. Unless the cops climb out of their hidey holes with their speed cameras and actually do some visible policing, this will never end.
  13. great!
  14. Assos uses the S5 chamois in several of their shorts. This is what you sit on, so unless you are super finickety about the seam patterns, the Uno usually works fine. Great quality shorts, and very comfortable, I have 2 pairs and use them all the time. Worth the spend? sure. look after them and you will get years of use.
  15. Can range from R75 to R125, usually you can find this in the shipping terms and conditions, or in your checkout basket prior to completing your order. Some offer free shipping if you spend enough in their store.
  16. easier to sell a mother-in-law...
  17. Same as always, I KILL YOU! winning time was around 2:22
  18. I enjoy the current route. VC always hit the first section hard, especially St Andrews and then the turns to Ghandi Square and the turn getting up to Nelson Mandela Bridge. Makes for challenging racing. The N14 can be a real test if the wind is up too. There are plenty of nice fast sections too, so although very different to Argus, it is a great route imo.
  19. Depends on what training you do. When my daughter was born I took a break from May to Sept. Then went to Suikerbosrand once a week at midday till the week before 94.7 and managed well (2:51). That place makes you strong for anything.
  20. Problem is once they have crossed the dope line, you never really know if they are up to no good again, despite what they say. LA made sure of that...
  21. At the end of the day Slow, it all adds up. The precedent is set by the attitude (and success) of the Epic. I try to pick my races carefully as I do between 18 and 26 events a year including stage events. The costs are considerable, but thats my choice. If all races start following the route of the Epic and it all becomes an exercise in economics and gain, is the sport going to be growing, or just profits. If the hard classics fall away in lieu of contrived EASY events, what in cycling is growing? not value for money, or quality of experience.
  22. Thanks for the reply. So lack of a sponsor has increased the entry fee so significantly. I dont wish to comment on ASG product related posts etc, that was not my original question and in terms of this post, quite irrelevant. In reality it is sad. Since ASG has become involved, the entry fee has risen significantly. My salary doesnt unfortunately grow at a rate of 50% in 2 years, and in all honesty R720 for this day event is quite exceptional. Sponsored riders and professional teams may be the only ones doing this event if this trend continues, and as far as I can tell, they form the minority of participants. What worries me more is that with the multitude of events creeping into the calendar, the classics like the Jock end up suffereing as people take advantage of cheaper, more accessible, events. Their choice sure, but perhaps you ASG are taking on too much in your portfolio and instead of making whats good out there already even better, you are adding to its demise. I hope you have a rethink on this, or get a sponsor on board to help absorb your costs whatever they are.
