  1. Just got news that the Powertap disc version "will be relaesed to the public middle of march"
  2. Bruce, i'd be keen to try the quarq but as you say the only press release I've seen on the mtb version is that they are working on it.....
  3. Thanks 1kTT, my concern with ergomo was the ability to stand up to mud etc. Was looking at the new SRM wireless mtb, but at R40k i'd have to pull off the valentine's of the century to convince my wife it's an essential piece of equipment. I've also looked at the powertap (disk version) and the new Quarq, but both have vague dates they will be available to the public. Also how has the service been from Cycletech regards the ergomo
  4. Looking for some advice. In the market for a powermeter, but needs to be fitted onto my mtb. Does anyone have info on what is currently available - mtb specific
  5. Not too sure if you're planning on competing in road or mtb events. If it's mtb events, seldom will you get a chance to get in an aero position even on a downhill (too many bumps, rocks etc). Even with the bar ends it becomes hair raising. I find you have more control with the hands on the grips. Like I said depends if you're looking for advice regards road or mtb.
  6. Got mine from Westdene
  7. Thug, had exactly the same problem my DT Swiss 4.2XC rims are also toast. My lbs re-tensioned them, but they literaly lasted a day before totally breaking. I've rebuilt the wheel with the DRC DH18 rim using the old hub. Minimal weight difference and so far so good. However it did give me an excuse to purchase a new set of XTR rims for racing. Absolutely loving them.
  8. Westdene
  9. Just bought the xtr tubeless wheelset. Loving it. Cost R5700. I would imagine the new xt wheelset which weighs a 100g more would be in the R4k range. Would definitely recommend the new xtr.
  10. I'll PM you my details. You're more than welcome to join us. I suppose the only negatives are that we leave fairly early on Sat morning, usually 5am. Average pace is usually about 25km/h.
  11. Roons where do you stay, we do a 5 hour mtb ride every Sat morning out on the East Rand (no loops). The only tar sections are the first and last 10 minutes from where we meet.
  12. Here's a little trick I learnt a while back about placing magnets in strategic positions. Place two magnets directly opposite each other (doesn't have to be next to the valve). Get on bike and start pedalling. Focus eye's on computer. I'll guarentee you it will be the fastest ride you've ever had, and amazingly you'll cover twice the distance in half the time.
  13. Frensch, unfortunately that is the life of a professional cyclist in general. You either have to accept it or decide on another career path, which as FanieFiets jokingly put it, has exactly the same stresses.
  14. She can't play rugby, but you should see her box (or should that be bok's)
  15. Newbie, as a rookie, I think you need to be promoted for blind siding half the Hub.
  16. The other easy way to do it is via www.mapmyride.com which uses google maps. It gives you the ability to "draw" your route on google maps, recording the distance as well as the elevation.
  17. Perhaps another angle to approach. Contact the Automotive companies who use Motorvia particularly Toyota and VW. These are Motorvia's largest customers. Toyota are now a title sponsor in the Cape Epic and I know the guy at VW at the top who is "responsible" for handling Motorvia, is a cyclist. PM me and I'll give you the names if you want.
  18. Came standard on my bike. Really good brakes can't fault them at all. Very responsive, and the 80g less than the Juicy 7's surely helps if you're a weight weenie. Mates of mine riding with xtr, think the Avid's are far more responsive. Like I said can't fault them.
  19. JLDAM what does that bike retail for???
  20. Height - 187cm Weight Oct 2006 - 115kg Weight Oct 2007 - 87kg Still have 6kg to go The difference its made to my riding has been unbelievable.
  21. Jaco and Christoff where in front of me. I stopped at 5 hours on the dot with 7 laps. Since the laps where taking me then 45 min to do, and knowing I couldn't do another lap in 30 min I said enoughs enough. Christoff and Jaco went on for another lap. The organisers also announced at the end that Christoff had done 8 laps. But who cares 8 nine or 10 laps it was great fun.
  22. Need to test Jaco's counting skills Winner definitely did 8 laps. Jaco was second as far as I could tell.
  23. I can agree with everyone, this was a great day of fun. First time I've ever rode in mud, absolutely loved it. Will definitely be back next year and hoping that it rains again.
  24. The winner did 8 laps - 108km in total
