I would also suggest training not only your muscles but also your body, to handle extremes regarding rehydrating and replenishment of nutrients, carbs etc. It would be beneficial to slowly introduce long rides into your training whereby you only take water for the first 2 to 3 hours (only small amounts) and no food. You body will become used to "fending" for itself and become more efficient in using the available nutrients. Obviously you don't want to bonk and dehydrate, so make sure you do have some food with you just in case.

Fully agree with Bored Girl. Surely you know if you are in contention for a top 10 -20 finish. If not why not let these riders go and fight it out up front, and fight your own battle perhaps a minute or two later. Thug you mentioned a seeding system to be introduced. Any idea of how and when???

Marius that is my only concern, the durability. The extra weight I'm not too stressed about. The Ergomo I believe has been proven MTB proof, but not sure about the others.

Hope someone can help. Came across a offroad cyclist on the weekend riding from Rietvlei Dam towards Benoni direction, said he was going to Boshkop and back (???). I know you can ride next to the train lines for quite some distance. Furthest I've gone is to where the train lines intersect with the Garsfontein road. Does anyone riding this area (MTB) know if you can do a circular route from Rietvlei Dam following the train lines.

I currently ride with Adidas bib shorts. Brought them in from Totalcycling. Cost me an arm and a leg, but definitely worth it. Really comfortable. Best shorts I've ridden with. Planning on getting a couple of more.
