  1. We had our team kit done by the boys at Enjoy and the we're extremely impressed. The bibs are the best I've ridden in - can endure endless hours on the saddle with no chafing and the padding is still as good as new. The first batch of tops we got seemed to have an issue as some of the stitching around the pockets came loose, but the guys were super helpful and replaced them at no charge. Since then there have been no problems. In short, I highly recommend them
  2. Just a thought - if this oke is as guilty as we're making him out to be, chances are he's probably still monitoring the hub to keep up to date with the latest events. May be worth offering advice directly to the OP rather than in public.
  3. Ja, also a bit miffed that it doesn't come with at least one proper map. All the car navigation units have maps included, so why not the bike ones!?!? In any case, I've decided to go for the free maps for now. They've received decent reviews. In most cases I'll be following an existing route so the map is really a nice to have. I've also seen that you can get satellite imagery that your route can be overlaid on so that sounds fairly practical for MTB'ing off the beaten track. You can pinpoint landmarks in relation to your route. If the free maps don't work out too great, then I'll look at forking out for the proper maps. I'm hoping it doesn't get to that though
  4. After a lot of back and forth I've decided to go for the 810. Even though the bluetooth is limited, it does allow me to download courses and upload workouts when not near a PC so that will come in handy when on holiday. Also, I've spoken to guys that have used both and they reckon the user interface has been cleaned up quite a bit. The 810 supports different bikes as well as different activities so you can customize the display to suit your training a lot easier. Marginal benefits currently, but I'm hoping that the bluetooth connectivity with the phone gets a firmware update in the near future to make it even more useful.
  5. Hi Guys, I'm in the market for a new GPS cycling computer. I definitely want the navigation functionality offered by the Edge 800 / 810 range because (a) races seem to be leaning towards unmarked routes, and (B) it allows me to ride places I don't normally ride without the risk of getting hopelessly lost. I've read tons of reviews about the 810 and none of them seem to make much of a case for paying the extra R1000 compared to the 800. Basically comes down to: 1) Slightly revised UI 2) Bluetooth connectivity with the your phone, albeit a bit of a poorly thought-out hack 3) Slightly longer battery life. 4) Slightly quicker GPS locking. Based on the above I'm thinking it may not be worth investing the extra because the bluetooth implementation is based on the old Bluetooth 2.1 standard which already outdates it for new products that are all being implemented in Bluetooth 4.0. Does anyone have anyone have any personal experience with both that can either back this thinking up / point out some other benefits that I may have missed out? Please and thanks Cheers, Paulo
  6. Hi, Does anyone have any info on what happened to this poor lady at Giba today? http://www.ecr.co.za/post/mountain-biker-hurt-in-giba-gorge-fall/ Sounds like a hectic fall. Wonder where it happened? Cheers, Paulo
  7. Fully agree with Rouxtjie - look at why the guys are doping - they want to perform better to get into better teams and earn bigger salaries / prize money. If we introduced a rule that said all winnings from their career would have to be returned if they were caught for intentional doping then they'd think twice about it. There's always the grey area where there's a dodgy steak involved, but without conclusive proof it's hard to enforce the above.
  8. Wow - did not think the video was going to go down like that. Really thought there were going to be handbags flying
  9. Also, is it just me or are the chicks generally cleaner than the guys? Haven't heard of any female doping saga's yet and I can't see the like of Ashleigh Moolman, Candice Neethling, Ariane, Yolande, etc. taking drugs. Or am I just being naive??
  10. Any news from Kevin Evans?
  11. Nedbank - if you're reading this thread please don't pull sponsorship of the team. Plenty classy, CLEAN riders to pick from that are just begging for a professional contract. It would be a sad day to see one of the few professional teams in SA bail and it would no doubt set us back a few steps in our push to infiltrate the overseas circuit.
  12. Thought it was a live show, or is that only when they need to take calls for guests?
  13. I reckon it's time for the likes of Adcock Ingram, USN, Cipla, etc to start sponsoring cycling. At least we'll know what drugs the team are using
  14. Cool - we probably passed each other a few times then We were in the row closest to the bank about halfway down.
  15. Out of curiosity, for those of you that did the 2 day, was anyone tenting by the pool? In hindsight we should have organized a hub beer session!
  16. Eish - not sure if I'm more shocked about the look of the bike / the bottle mount position
  17. Nope - the 2 day missed out on puff adder pass. We chatted to Gary about it on Saturday afternoon and he reckons it would have made the course a bit too challenging for the 2-day crowd, so we did a slighlty different route to the 3-day races.
  18. Have to agree - singletrack coming down from Spionkop was frikkin amazing! Day 2 was perhaps a bit bland, but my legs weren't complaining about that too much Well done to Gary and the B&B team for putting together an exceptional event!
  19. Seems to be a shortage of Craft stuff in Durbs too. Battling to find any 'mediums' in stock anywhere.
  20. Not sure it's entirely fair to blame Lance alone - pretty much every professional rider in that era was bust for doping so I think it was bigger than Lance.
  21. Yip - this is going to ruin the sport much like the Hansie match-fixing saga ruined cricket for most folks. Oh well, less sponsors = less money in the sport = less incentive to cheat so maybe this will result in a cleaner sport in any case. Of course, the flip side is that less money = less riders and teams.
  22. In the professional sport of cycling...
  23. I've also just moved to a Phenom 143mm (after riding a Specialized Avatar for many years). Man alive my @ss has NEVER been that sore. This weekend after about 25kms I could barely sit on the thing! I've been off the bike for a while so I'm guessing it is a case of HTFU, but I don't feel like going through months of agony only to find out that this isn't the saddle for me. Also got B&B coming up in two weeks time, so I'm going to try dropping my saddle a fraction for this weekends ride (thanks to the previous poster for that tip!) and if that doesn't work I'm putting my old saddle back on for B&B!
  24. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Pretty much exactly what I did each time I tried to seal the tyre (with the only exception that on the last try I put the tyre in the pool instead of applying soapy water to the tyre with a brush. I'm going to close the x-file on this one and put it down to it being pure co-incidence - guess I'll have to cancel those flyers I was printing to advertise my magic pool
  25. Nope - isn't the rim strip already cut to size? If not, then I'd have hoped that the shop would have done any trimming when they put the rim strip in. All I know is that when I took the rim strips out they had little cuts around the edges that we allowing the air to leak out.
