  1. Interesting - I don't really feel any bob / wallowing on the open stuff. Do you find you're out the saddle quite a bit?
  2. Warrrrrrren! It's riding so well. Loving it, even after 8 hours in the saddle on Sunday Will upload pics once done.
  3. Cool. Glad to see I'm not alone on this one Thanks guys. Will take it off when setting up my new Ritchey WCS cockpit tonight.
  4. LOL!!
  5. Hey guys, I hardly ever lock my fork out, even though I've got a fancy little remote lockout at my fingertips. This got me thinking about how many people actually use this functionality, and if so, when? In my experience, the only real benefit seems to be when you're standing up and mashing the pedals to get up a nasty incline, but this is usually only a short burst and I don't normally have time / remember to lock the fork out in this scenario. Cheers, Paulo
  6. Yip - I think Jeep reckons we're all a bunch of fatties unlike those skinny roadie guys As for the water tables - hear hear! Those irrigation-thingies were a life saver. It was the only way I could bring my temperature down!!
  7. Firstly, just to double check stand up when you hear the noise to make sure that it is the saddle / seatpost (sometimes it could be something else so when you stand the noise should still carry on). If the noise stops, then it's definitely your saddle / seatpost. I found that slightly tightening my seat clamp got rid of the noise for me, but you could also try a bit of grease on the seatpost.
  8. Hahahah - the H2h shirts are a bit of a joke. Normally their cuts are huge so they end up looking like pyjamas. This year I was going to go down a size so I got to registration at 12:45 and was surprised to find out they only had L and up. Normally wear a medium so there was no point really so I ended up getting the wife a nice blue shirt. On a side note, they were also selling the black shirts outside, but they also didn't have medium's. Guess I wasn't meant to have the shirt
  9. Long, hard day out there yesterday. The heat definitely made things worse - I ran out of water 10km's out and was dehydrated like crazy! Thanks must go out to the two guys that helped me out on the route - one sponsored me some cramp block on Bartletts and the other gave up some of his water in Shongweni to see me through. Without that I don't know if I would have made it! Route was awesome up til the Ark and then things stopped being fun Definitely going to have to go back and try those switchbacks from Summerveld again, but this time without the cramp!
  10. FYI - just found out that the shuttle leaves Shongweni at 4am apparently. Wow it's going to be a long day out!!
  11. Thanks for the advice guys. Think I'll take them up with me but leave leg warmers and jacket behind. Weather does look good for sunday, so shouldn't be cold for long
  12. Don't think you'll have much luck here. They run their promotions for a limited time frame, so unless someone has a sneaky back-door code, you probably won't be able to find one until their next promo.
  13. What's the temperature like at the start at 6am? Cold enough to warrant carting arm warmers or a jacket for the whole race?
  14. 1) Less punctures = less downtime during a ride and less money spent on tubes, lower tyre pressure = better traction and more cushy ride. 2) Ideally you want a UST wheelset, but you can convert normal wheelesets. Use stans yellow tape and stans sealant and you should be fine. Don't forget to use proper UST tyres for the best results.
  15. The half marathon is good fun. There's two major hills to look out for - Bartletts and then Sunrise. Bartletts is usually ok because the legs are still fresh, but make sure to save some energy for Sunrise. It's a monster. And another thing - there's a short, nasty climb a few km's after the top of sunrise. Pretty much unrideable unless you're Burry. Don't let it get to you though. After that it's (mostly) all downhill
  16. Well I'm hoping that we've had our rain quota for the week and that things start drying up!
  17. Anyone know what time the uplift is leaving from Hillcrest in the morning?
  18. In for the full marathon. First time trying it out Anyone got any tips / strategy to share?
  19. Gotta say - I love thehub - 3 pages of speculation without anything concrete Now for my 2c worth of speculation I don't think this will be a huge change to the current model. My bet is on the fact that CWC have now managed to negotiate a better bulk-buying discount on the CRC goodies and they'll be bringing a lot more stock in to their new mega-store. We'll still be able to buy from CRC if needs be, but on the whole, CWC should carry stock on most goods and with the cheaper delivery methods and quick delivery times most of us will probably support the local crowd. As for the import duties etc., this deal won't affect that at all because whoever is bringing the goods in needs to pay the duties. These won't suddenly disappear.
  20. Good work! Definitely going to plan a trip up to this part of the world after h2h.
  21. To be honest I reckon tow-bar mount is the only way to go. I've heard all sorts of stories about guys that forget they've got the bike on the roof and drive in to tollgates / garages / carports and end up totaling their bikes. Those strap-on jobbies make me nervous and they're a mission to get on / off. Tow-bar is probably the most secure mount, easy to get the rack on / off, and you can use it for other purposes as well.
  22. Great initiative Stu! How are you sourcing these bikes? I'd be keen to help out, but wouldn't know where to start looking I suppose there's also a need for bike parts etc?
  23. Tried First Ascent and didn't like them. Cape Storm Matrix were ok but the jury's still out as I've only done 1 ride in them. Just picked up some Specialized Freeway bibs and they are awesome! Awesome padding, great fit and they normally only cost around R750.
  24. Excuse my ignorance, but are the parts not made in Japan? If so, could that earthquake not have wiped out the production line?
  25. Have a look at the Merida 1-20 as well. Good spec for about 12k but you may be able to pick up a 2011 clearance for closer to 10k.
