  1. Saw a few Okapi's in this thread. My old man told me that there was a rumour way back when that the SA government had a plan to poison the blades because it was primarily used by the native population. Probably not true but for some reason I still won't touch one
  2. Have the Merrel Trail glove, it's important that they fit really tight around the foot and really loose arround the toes. Oh, and leave the socks at home! Absolutely love them!
  3. What do you drive?
  4. Google Fairsquare and phone Teodor, his number is on the site
  5. Scared of Neptune, but I know penguin quite well, it's part of my commute.
  6. Where do you live Barhugger? My office is in that screenshot!
  7. Had the juicy 3's and the front brake did exactly the same, after numerous bleeds, rebuilds and visits to the LBS I ditched them. Couldn't get it sorted. We did however figure out that the problem is on the lever side, seems some of the seals on that side popped or something. Replaced them, happened again two weeks later.
  8. Have the same one, got it for just under R3k from Cajees a while back. Very happy with it, I went for the platform one after losing my front wheel... don't ask, expensive lesson learnt. And by same one I mean the Thule Raceway or some such. Edit: Added last sentence.
  9. Sorry for the hijack but while we're on the topic: Could someone please explain the difference between integrated, semi integrated and a regular headset?
  10. Had my first commuting lesson today: Always carry at least two spare tubes. Left work a bit earlier today and did the long(er) route that goes over Klapperkop. Managed to find probably the only other tubed 26er in Gauteng next to the trail with a flat so gave him my spare tube. Had to walk the last approx 3km home...
  11. For some reason I lack basic foot-eye coordination resulting in many a pedal banging against a rock/branch/whatever. That being said my 520's have never let me down. Bombproof and easy to maintain, and if it gets caked with mud just clean it out with a bit of water and a twig and you're good to go. Those pedals will probably outlast my feet at the rate I'm going.
  12. It does do wonders for my emotional well-being, arrived at work refreshed this morning instead of the usual "wish-this-day-will-end-but-it's-only-8:00"
  13. As mentioned earlier I recently started commuting. Let me start of by saying that I'm seriously unfit at the moment. I have two options when cycling to work, either the direct route (6km with 50m ascent) or the roundabout (20km with 450m ascent). The plan was to use the roundabout route but lately I've been working a bit late and I don't see that changing anytime soon. So I end up using the short route. We also do about 40km over the weekend. Fitness wise is it worth it or would it be better for me to drive to work and back and try to fit in an extra long ride during the week or does the back2back nature of the commute offer some extra value that a single long ride doesn't?
  14. This is why I love the hub.
  15. No excuses!!
  16. After having my @ss handed to me at Hakahana this weekend by my brother-in-law (acceptable) and father-in-law (completely unacceptable) I've decided I need to up my game. I don't really have time to fit in midweek rides so from this afternoon I'll be one of those commuting type of cyclists. I need my car at work so I drove to the office this morning (with clothes etc for tomorrow), cycle home this afternoon and cycle back to the office tomorrow morning and drive back tomorrow evening. That way, effectively I'll be commuting 2 days a week but riding 4 days a week plus the long ride on Saturday. I live about 7km from work but managed to put together a 20km route with some serious hills. Hopefully things will go better at Curro.
  17. Good news but that last sentence made me laugh
  18. Yeah, prices are insane. I drove a 1973 Mayfair (the one with the round lights) with a 1275 GTS motor all through Varsity, probably the most fun I've ever had on the front seat of a car. That's some sort of 2.0lt supercharged conversion they do at Mini Workshop in Benoni. The roof has also been lowered and a spoiler kit fitted. I saw that car kick dust in proper sportscars' faces at Zwartkops in 2004/5, think Mini celebrated it's 50th birthday or something.

  22. PM the_mtb, he's not very active on the hub but should get it sooner or later.
  23. Red Barn this morning at 6:45. Yes, it was cold.
