  1. I have no experience with any mtb shops in Jhb but for a roadbike singlespeed project go check out Hunter cycling in Braamfontein. I drive through from Pta to go shop there!!! Brilliant service, they stock very little cheap stuff, the parts they do stock is very close to international online prices!!!
  2. Wow that bamboo bike is AWESOME!!!! How did you connect them at the steerer etc? Does anyone know of someone in the Pta area that can sandblast a steel frame for me? It has some rust spots that i cant get off with elbow grease
  3. Hi Nico. I would start by loosening the Stem bolts and just tightening the topcap bolt and then the stem again. In many cases it might just be that the headset is just a bit loose.
  4. Hey guys... So normally I wouldn't go for a cheap watch, but I've had this urge lately to get a pocket watch (I have no idea why). But I cannot justify paying R4500 for a nice Ingersol one, so I ended up bidding for a KS (Kronen and Sohne) one on ebay, final bid plus transport was a full R112. Does anyone have some info on this brand? A quick google search spat out their website (some very nice pieces at an average or $100) but some reviews make them out to be chonky sh@t... 5. On my trials bike I use duct tape as a rim liner, add about 1 tablespoon of babypowder to the inside of the tyre before putting tube in. It prevents snakebites PS. with this setup I haven't had a snakebite in over a year
  6. Does anyone know if the Cascades Trials course will be kept open after the world champs and if the public will be allowed to go ride it?
  7. My Hansom SS. Currently running a 48/18 ratio and with the old style dropouts it works like a charm...
  8. I use Skullcandy, but the bit more expensive ones. Think they were around R450. The sound quality isn't bad (nothing compares to Sennheizer and similar brands), but it's half the price and if you break it and take it to their head office you get 50% off on your next purchase of the same value headphone...
  9. It's an Avid problem... I had a set of Avid Elixer 5's with the same problem. Best advice I can give you is to buy a set of Shimano's (or if you have money burning a hole in your pocket buy Hope) and give the Avid's to someone you really dislike. They will fail completely and some point and land him against a tree, bus etc.
  10. This should fix the problem
  11. If I had to post only one: "Money can't buy talent, and talent trumps money"
  12. I have a 661 Recon Stealth helmet, mat black as well. It is incredibly light!!!! If you like the look of the Fox rather go for the 661, it looks similar but is half the weight
  13. Toolsets in general works out cheaper than buying tool for tool. But good quality toolsets are insanely expensive!! So I made a list of tools that I use/need often and bought high quality (parktool) and then the cheapest I could find for those that I use once a lifetime. * Allen keys I bought a parktool set as well as a MIDAS special, always end up loosing my 5mm so when ever I travel the cheapies go with.
  14. Thanx Cpt. Will be trying it for supper tonight!!!!
  15. Does anyone have a killer Mac and cheese recipe?
  16. I use Adidas skate shoes (same as what Kenny Belaey rides). Shoes are personal choice, I loved Kustom but they didnt even last me a week!! Element Hi8 isn't bad, but I wouldn't use them for hard riding (they tend to slip a bit doing big drops, 2m+ drops). FiveTens are just a bit too expensive for me, but I do still want to try them...
  17. Just to clarify, are you getting puncture's from the outside by thorns etc, or pinchflats? A little trick the trials riders use to prevent pinchflats is put about a tablespoon of baby powder in the tyre, it just prevents the tube from pinching between the tyre and rim,
  18. Awesome thanx!! Do you by any change know anything about the Vacari frame?
  19. Hey guys, i recently bought a oldschool roadbike. What gear ratio would you suggest? I have a 16T in the back and currently a 52 in the front. But its way too hard!! Was thinking of getting a 42t in the front but experimentation gets expensive!!
  20. Hey guys, this is my new SS project. Its a Vacari frame, can someone maybe shed some light on the frame please? I bought it from a friend and according to him its an Italian hand made frame but he's not sure of the era it came from. Currently I mostly have shimano 600 componants on(came standard with the bike). But still have to change the front gear to a smaller one and repair the front brake and then start playing with the colours.
  21. Hey, contact Dylan Victor from CycleLab Tokai. He might be keen on joining
  22. Hey, if you set V-brakes up correctly it will do the job. Try putting Coca cola on a cloth and wiping the rip with it, will make it nice and sticky and give you a bit of extra power
  23. Hey guys, I know I'm stupidly late on this post!!! I'm a trials rider so have a fair amount of experience on flat pedals. I've normal cheap BMX pedal, Crank bro's 5050 and now i'm on Echo pedals. I found that any flat pedal with a big surface and "pegs" sticking out works for me, I did not like the 5050's due to the screw effect. the grip like hell but doesn't always let go of your foot when you need it. The shoe makes a huge difference!!! I love my Element Hi8 skate shoe (Dylan Victor also uses these), but I'm thinking of moving to the Adidas All mountain shoe when it gets released sometime. But in general the softer the compound, the better grip but the shorter the lifespan. Also look at the bottom of the shoe, if the sole has a mesh effect it will grip no matter the compound. The Hi8 is a fairly hard compound but works for me... PS if you're new to flats get shin pads!!!!!
