  1. This has got to be the saddest day in cycling for South Africa. It was not nice to logon this morning and this was the first topic under "active topics". I think that motorists should start being held acountablefor their actions. Driving into the sunrise/sunset is no excuse for not seeing other road users. If a person knows that they will be caught on the roads at sunrise/sunset or that there might be a possibility thereof, then they should make sure that they have the correct eyewear to help them see better during these times of poor visibilty. Whenever I go on roads that I know are infamous for heavy mist/fog then I take my yellow sunglasses with as it helps in these conditions. This tjop should be hung out to dry and be made an example of. Unfortunately he cannot be charged with murder, as the law describes the act of murder as a premeditated act, which this not, but he should still get the maximum sentence that the law can impose on him. My deepest sympathies go out to the families of the fallen ones. RIP
  2. I switched over to DSTV last year because I got gatvol of all the soccer on SABC, and it's just getting worse as we get closer to the SWC. I was also tired of watching programmes in a language that I do not understand. In the very near future SABC is going to switch over to a digital signal and we are then going to have to pay for decoders and whatever else. I don't see why I have to pay for all that to get a digital signal to watch crap. When SABC goes digital I will cancel my SABC subs, as DSTV pays a portion of our subs over to SABC in any case. I feel that R529 is still a bargain, as I can change to any other sport channel if I don't want to watch a specific sport. There is also all nat geo, nat geo wild, and all the other exciting channels to keep me entertained when I can't sleep at night. As for repeats, they only repeat programmes that have been shown earlier in the month....NOT COMPLETE SERIES/SEASONS FROM 2 YEARS AGO. Somehow that was SABC contingency plan when the broadcast industry went on strike last year, and we are still watching those series. The SABC is so financially f'ked that I don't think they will showing anything new or any other sport besides soccer for at least the next five years.
  3. What I don't understand is how easy people find it to beg for something in stead of going out and finding a way to earn some money so that they afford what they want. When my brother and I started cycling way back in 1988 my parents could not afford to support our cycling addiction after 6 months, so we had to go out and find part time jobs. We delivered newspapers, worked at fastfood outlets, cafes and wherever we could so that we could afford the upkeep of our bikes. We started small and over time upgraded our bikes until we had a relatively "good". I'm sorry, I might sound callous and cold, but we have been there and know it's not easy or cheep, but people should first try look for ways to try and fund there past time themselves before starting to beg for handouts.
  4. I want to do the mod on my Garmin Edge 305 as prescribed on MTBGuru to sort out the "switching off problem" On the forum the guy used Loctite 380 Black Max to seal his unit, but I am unable to find it in the shops in Pretoria. Is Loctite 380 a type of superglue/ instant bonding glue or not? If it is, is their a similar product that someone can recomend, that is also waterproof? Speed Devil2010-03-23 06:27:25

  6. WinblownPE, it doesn't help use the state of the economy to let these tjops off the hook. It is especially now that they should be upping their game to retain their clients and attract new ones. If I was you I would name and shame them. It will show them that they can't take the customer for a ride just because they can. What ever happened to "the customer is always correct"?
  7. the new 2010 STI's are smaller than the previous models. I used to ride with DA7800 until my bike got taken away. my new bike came out with the new 2010 Ultegra gruppo. With gear cabling under the tape, the hoods are a lot smaller. Have a look at Sram too, their hoods are also smaller. You could also look at the shifters that Plant-X sells. It looks like those are also a small make. http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/category.aspx?categoryID=166
  8. If I take out a cyclosprt license for next year, can I still enter races in the vets category or must I race in the open cats?
  9. Here is the emil as I received it: Registrations for 2010 Cycling Licenses will open on 24 December 2009! Due to a significant overhaul of the CyclingSA licencing structure, licence applications for 2010 will only open on the 24th December 2009. All applications received and approved by the 10th January will have their cards printed and posted during that week. Your 2009 licence will remain valid until the end of January 2010. The New License Structure has the following benefits: * Simplified approach * Lower cost of entry * Free Development Licenses (by application through CSA) * All License types carry a seeding benefit. 2010 License Types - (All licenses are multidisciplinary) * Racing License - R300 For elite level riders wanting to compete in provincial or national championships * Cyclosport - R75 For regular event participants (2 events or more per year) * Junior Licence- R35 18 and younger (born 1992 and after). All juniors (both competitive and social) will ride under this single licence. * Day License - R35 For the cyclist who enters 2 or less events per year. Day licenses will carry a full seeding benefit provided that they are purchased in advance (ie through the online event entry system) PLEASE NOTE: Seeding will be based on participant history and ability ONLY. Licence type will not carry any seeding advantage. Applications Through MyRace Cycling South Africa has again awarded responsibility for administration of the national rider database to MyRace. The award was made on the basis that considerable experience has been gained from the 2009 season and MyRace have made significant improvements to the 2010 process in order to ensure a superior user experience and far quicker delivery of cards. Some of the major enhancements include: 1. New Website and Database Server: A completely revamped website with faster and easier navigation. 2. User Messages: Regular system messages to notify applicants of any delay in the application or approval process. 3. Support Desk: A dedicated support website and trained personnel to ensure quick resolution of any application queries. http://support.cyclingsa.com 4. Delivery reports and tracking function to verify the progress of an application. Speed Devil2009-12-04 05:29:50
  10. I just got an email from my club chairman where he outlines the new license structure and fees...... A full racing license is going to cost...... Wait for it......... R300!!!!!! 11. Tarmac, what is the height difference between your saddle and stem? Maybe your handlebars are to low. If you feel comfortable on the bike then stay with it. Looks are not an accurate indication if your bike is the right size. I am 1,88m and used to ride a 58cm frame. I felt ok on it, but when I was a bit on the unfit side my back would also get sore on longer rides. I now have a 56cm frame and can feel a huge difference. My bike now seems to fit me like a glove. The smaller frame is also stiffer and it also handles much better when standing on the hills. It doesn't feel all bulky under me. As said before, also try and strengthen your core. It will help your back a lot. I am doing core strengthening exercises now and can feel a huge difference. At the end of the day you have to feel comfortable.....not too cramped but also not all stretched out. See if you can maybe test drive another bike first before before making the final decision.
  12. That really sucks. Couldn't they at least have called him to the office and told him to his face? It seems to be a common thing these days, where an empoloyer phones an employee and tells them that their services have been terminated. I know it's the end of the year and companies aren't hiring, but I hope he gets another job soon. Keep the faith Kansas, and just remember, those who look shall find, and those that ask shall receive.
  13. I think I'm going to open a little kiosk at one of the robots on Wittkoppen, and issue licenses while people wait in the traffic. I see a nice little business venture on the horizon
  14. Farken Hell. If you take the wheels off the board can be used for surfing
  15. Just stay away from the KCNC bars and stem. I heard they have a lot of flex. Rather sacrifice weight for stiffness in the cockpit. You will appreciate it when you standing on the hills or in a sprint. When I got my new bike I wanted a set of stiff AND lightwieght bars. I was told to rather go for the ITM bar and stem as I was stiffer and not too heavy. In hindsight I'm glad I rather glad that I went the ITM route. You could also look at a set of lightweight skewers...Maybe KCNC? They will also shave a few grams off.Speed Devil2009-11-30 12:55:56
  16. Put the following on: 1) KCNC Scandium seatpost (Lightest on the market. I dropped about 180g compared to my FSA SLK seatpost) 2) ITM Bianco bars and stem (very light and STRONG) 3) Spez Toupe team saddle 4) Look Keo sprint pedals (about 135 grams each - best buy in the Keo range when considering price vs weight) 5) Lightweight tyres and tubes (for racing - don't need lightweight stuff for training. I use Conti GP4000 foldable tyres. They are a good weight and relatively robust. they don't cut too easy.) 6) Easton EA90 Aero rims (weigh in at 1450g for the set - anything lighter and you will need big bucks!!!!!. PS I don't know what the Mavics weigh) With these upgrades you could lose a huge chunck of weight and still stay in budget. As mentioned earlier, sell off the old stuff and recoupe some of your money, and then you could start upgrading the gruppo Speed Devil2009-11-30 12:48:11
  17. Get in the que. I was here first
  18. Which year?
  19. Does anyone know when we will be able to apply for our 2010 licenses on myrace?
  20. I would rather get a new 11T sprocket. You don't want to be in a full out sprint and 2 teeth break off
  21. If I was you I would first have a look at the gear cables and housings. You could maybe just have a sticky cable. First replace your cables and housings...it's way cheaper than a derailleur.
  22. No. 5 coming up this weekend. I have missed a few due to work and family commitments. It should be about 8 by now I eventually got my reseed, so will be starting in VB.....all the way forward from MM Maybe next year I will mount my coolerbox on my mountainbike
  23. CR, I don't ride that area often, but know that the roads in that area do not carry high volumes of motorised traffic. And it is this fact that makes these cyclists idiots so complacent. What bothers me the most is the blind rises and bends that you mentioned. If some of those tjops have their ipods/ iphones shoved so deep into their ears with the music at full volume they will never know about the traffic approaching from behind and a motorist will have very little time to react after coming over the rise. That whole area is just a huge accident waiting to happen. I have sympathy with you and all residents in the area. After next weekend all those idiots will disappear like mist before the sun for the next 10 months!!
