  1. I think you might just get away with your road bike
  2. The road is still the same. I will try and get some pics up tonight or tomorrow.
  3. Frosty, it has been a few years since I last rode the Carnival city race, but the last time I done it I know you guys did a helluva job in sweeping the corners and filling the potholes. The Carnval City is definitley on my list of to-do rides next year. Keep up the good work.
  4. I have to agree. Their are some real pigs out there. i also noticed how many empty sachets there were along the road. After discovering RideShots from power Bar I no longer have sticky gel sachets in my back pockets or gel all my hands. Mabe cyclists should change over to them and then there will be less empty sachets/packets along the road.
  5. I normally pump my tubbies and clinchers to 8 bar. Why do the tubbies always give a harder ride and why do they have a better rolling resistance?
  6. I generally found the marshalling quote good. The were oftern TB marshalls around on their bikes and the marshalls at the intersections were quite good too. The only gripes I have is that the road markings at the rumble strips were non existant. They could have painted the roads to mark them and give cyclists time to react. Many corners were also full of sand which seriously broke speed going into corners. Having started in H cat it made for some interesting riding this morning with some cyclists thinking they were LA and others looking for parking going into the corners. The marshalls could have taken a broom and swept the corners before the cyclists came through. Unfortunately the organisers cannot check every meter of the course for glass etc. As for the traffic, I found it to be ok, with the most motorists being very considerate and patient. I don't think I heard any hooters out of anger. Other than that I found it was a fairly well organised event. I will definitely be back next year.
  7. Go to the registration on Fri or Sat. I'm sure they will take late entries. You know how money hungry race organizers are
  8. Does anybody know if there will be a registration table on Sunday morning to collect no.s? I have tried to phone the cell no.s given on the website but they are on voicemail and there is nobody at the events office that can help. I do not feel like going all the way to the dome to register and then go back on Sunday for the race.
  9. Check out what Sheldon Brown has to say. It's quite interesting http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cranks.html BTW, what is the length of an MTB crank?Speed Devil2009-09-11 01:02:24
  10. you MTbers are way too hard on your bikes. Us roadies don't need to tag a whole workshop along on our rides In 23 years I have never needed more than 2 tyre levers to get me going after a breakdown
  11. it depends from what side you look at it. But usually the more a person earns the more they plead poverty. As the afrikaans saying goes: "Hulle kla met 'n halwe brood onder die arm".
  12. Knowing the guvermint, he will probably get a fine with a suspended sentence
  13. The taxi driver that rode over and killed 16 year old Berdanine kruger in Garfontein earlier this year has been found guilty of murder. http://www.news24.com/Content/SouthAfrica/News/1059/1c793dd123234ef7b48ef00a7f0e526a/10-09-2009-01-19/Taxi_driver_guilty_of_murder I hope this tjop sits for a very very very long time
  14. The problem with discovery it they are too busy giving "value added services" that they are not concentrating on medical care. When I was with my old MA (Compcare) I never had issues with them and I never ran over my limits. With my new company I'm forced to be with Discovery and within 3 months my savings was depleted!!!!! And I haven't used my MA any more than what I did when I was on Compcare. Discovery is a bunch of f*cking sharks, thats all. Nothing more and nothing less. I don't need discounts at supermarkets,or flight tickets, or gym memberships or any of that crap...I WANT MEDICAL COVER!!!!!!
  15. I cycle to work every morning and turn left up Edmond St out of Hamilton St to go past the Union buildings. Neotel (or the council?) dug up the road a few months ago to lay cables and have not retard it yet. Whenever the gravel gets ridden out it just keeps being "topped up". I went up their this morning and the entire corner was full of loose sand and sands and the ditch was about 1 inch deep in places. With less than 2 weeks to go before the race, I hope the organisers of this race will get off their butts and ensure that the corner is clean and the roadwoarks fixed before the race, as it could make for very dangerous riding.Speed Devil2009-09-15 01:28:30
  16. Yes well when a person is used to riding in the top categories, then starting in H is like starting in ZZ in The Argus...No offence to the slower riders
  17. My only other legal option is to get a tandem partner and re-seed in the tandem cat. Anyone looking for a partner?
  18. That's plan B...When all else fails
  19. Maybe this will be a good race to see if my carbon wheels are worth their money The only problem is that the entire bunch will probably sit on my back wheel from start to finish and let me do all the pacing. Or maybe I could just load the coolerbox and mount it on the back of the MTB and go out for a real jol...Damn, I haven't done that for ages Afterall, I won't be getting any hectic seeding from starting in HSpeed Devil2009-09-09 06:57:24
  20. Yes, I selected the licensed cat option when registering. They have all my details regarding my license etc.
  21. Yes I have a full license. That was the whole reason for asking for a re-seed. What irks me even more, is the fact that my cousin was fully licensed a few years ago (he was 19), with an index of about 30 at the time, and he was included in the elites group when he entered races
  22. So you are saying that the super seeding ladder is the be-all-and-end-all for all races? If it's not on super seeding ladder then it doesn't exist? Because the races I have done conform to all the above criteria except that my results aren't on the super seeding ladder. Is it too much of a hassle to check my details on the respective timing company's website? So like the rest of South Africa I will patiently sit on my butt and wait for the wheels to turn slowly until things finally happen.
  23. That is part of my gripe. I am a fully licensed rider and should be in the VA category. But ja, just like our wonderful guverment the cycling fraternity knows how to ignore those that keep them where they are.
  24. I sent the organisers of the D2D an email asking for a re-seed. I do not have an index on the superseeding website as I have not been riding for almost 2 years. I gave them the winning times of the race and my time with a calculated index. They have replied and said: "Good Morning Sean Unfortunately this is not possible. The rules are set to be fair to all cyclist participating, If we reseed you based on this it to a disadvantage of all the other riders in the field. This is the fairest and most direct way to do this. Sorry we could not help. Kind Regards" I mean like WTF!!!!! How can this be a disadvantage to other cyclists!!!? I rode the races, done a good time , but now I must wait until the results eventually end up on the superseeding ladder before I start getting decent seedings in races. And if they did not know it, the races I done were on the superseeding ladder. They're just too damn lazy to go look up my results and confirm it on Racetec and Championchip's sites!!!!
