  1. It all comes down to your budget at the end of the day. If you can afford it then buy it. If you got a small budget then make one like rest of us armgatte. Then you got something you can be proud of too and brag about your DIY skills
  2. I would go with XTC1's suggestion of having a bar that can go through the frame and wheels. My suggestion would be that you make a "normal hook" like in the bike shops etc and hang the bike from the rear wheel. Have a bracket either side of the bikes and slide a bar through the wheels and lock either side with a high security lock. You could either have another bar running through the front wheels too or take the front wheel out and hang between the bikes. When mounting the brackets either weld the bolt head to the bracket after tightening to prevent the bracket from being removed from the wall, or use a rawl bolt where the bolt is inside and a nut is used to tighten the bracket to the wall and use torque-shear nuts. It is a nut that is round at the base with a hexagoanl head which breaks off when the nut is fully torqued, thereby preventing removal of the nut.
  3. This morning my nephew and myself went out on the tandem. We went down DF Malan Drive from Pta North as we wanted to go out on the Pelindaba road. As we were stopping at he robot at the intersection of DF Malan/Bloed St I felt the tandem wobble and thought my partner had lost had his balance and then I felt a hand on my back and thought he was holding onto me. Next thing I new one guy had his hand in my back pocket and another guy was robbing my nephew Luckily they only got a spare tube from me (my house keys were in my other pocket and my cellphone was at home) and they took my nephew's cellphone They were in and out our pockets before we even knew what had hit us. I was so busy trying to keep the bike upright that I was not able to react fast enough. The ******* then had the audasity to walk casually away and still look us square in the eye. All this happened while there was a metro van parked behind a taxi that had broken down in the turn. They probably waited until the taxi obscured the metro police's view of us and then attacked. We didn't even bother to call them over as we would probably have got the cold shoulder. We just turned around and went back home and reported it to the police station.

  6. The missus and I have never been offroad before. We both have hardtails and we weigh 75kg and 70kg respectively. We will be riding with Mandible's group so we won't be riding very fast. My son will be on the back of my bike in his baby seat so I would like to keep the ride as soft as possible for him too. We both have normal tyres with tubes in.
  7. I'm bust cleaning and lubing the bikes for Sunday"s ride and would like to know what suitable tyre pressure would be for front and rear.
  8. This could get very interesting....... Take photos of broken down taxis in the yellow lane and report it for driving in the yellow lane The driver will have a hard time explaining why his taxi was there in the first place. It's time that these taxis were taken head-on and shown that their lawless behaviour will no longer be tolerated
  9. Don't the organisers have some kind of clause in the entry form that indemnifies them from injuries that may be sustained to cyclists or their property? I am in no way supporting the PPA here, it is just a question. I feel that the PPA should be sued as they are the organising body, the metro because they are in charge of enforcing the road closure and the fire department for reckless endangerment of life and lack of professional support to an injured person (cyclist). Every person in Cape Town knows that these roads are closed on Argus day, and are a no-go zone for vehicles except authorised emergency and backup vehicles and race officials. What makes this whole case even worse is the fact that the fire dept vehicle was traveling in the opposite direction to the flow of cyclists, so the impacts would have been worse than hitting a stationary object!!! The driver of the vehicle should also be be sued in her personal capacity as she probably used the "status" of the official fire dept vehicle to gain access to the route and thereby knowingly endangered the lives of cyclists. Cyclistmom I hope your son recovers quickly and that he is back to normal soon.Speed Devil2009-03-11 14:47:49

  13. Another question.... Is there a setting in the software so that the files on the Garmin can be automatically deleted after being dowloaded? And another one....Does the battery build up a memory like cellphone batteries etc when it gets charged periodically before it is flat? Or should I wait for the battery to be almost flat before downloading the files?
