  1. It's going to be a loooooooong weekend for you WBPE Speed Devil2009-04-30 10:38:16
  2. I have my household insurance with Santam. My bike is specified on my insurance policy along with my cameras etc. My bike is valued at R37000 and I pay R207/mth and the nice part is that I don't have an excess when I claim on my bike
  3. If I have any electrolyte left in my camelback then i just leave it in the fridge overnight. Nothing has happened to my bladder in the last 2 years. The big thing to remember is to clean it out striaght away afetr use, especially if you are not going to use it the next day. Bend the pipe double and shove it inside the bladder so that air can circulate through it. That way there should be no fungus/bacteria build up inside. It all comes down to good cleaning and hygiene. As for the jik story. If you rinse the bladder thoroughly with clean water it should not taste like jik. I often put jik in my water bottles and have never had a jik taste on my next ride.
  4. Thanks people, I came right. What would the world be without the HUB? It's almost better than google
  5. How do I change between Bike1 and Bike 2 on my Edge 305? Please don't tell me to RTFM as I don't have it with me!!!
  6. The important thing to remeber is LEFT and RIGHT. The pedal on the lefthand side has a lefthand thread, which means it screws out the wrong way. The righthand side has a righthand thread (normal thread) and screws out the correct way.
  7. I'm doing the Bela Bela ride next month and am offering a lift from the Montana area in Pretoria. I have place for 3 adults and 4 bikes and will be taking my trailer with so there will be plenty of packing space.I will be going through early on the morning of the race. If anyone is interested in sharing a ride to save on petrol drop me a PM. Otherwise contact me on 082 338 3239Speed Devil2009-04-16 11:42:05
  8. Gears are calculated according to the amount of sprockets on the cassette. The manufacturers of cheaper bikes count the amount of combinations available by changing between the front blades and sprockets. Thereby advertising 21, 24 or 27 speed. It's just a marketing gimmick to sell their product. I have a 10spd or if I want to sound fancy I say 20spd. But what really matters is the gear ratio. It's no use trying to do a hilly race with steep climbs if your ratio is not correct Speed Devil2009-04-08 13:44:50
  9. Try Cycle fit. I hear they come highly recomended. I want to make appointment with them soon. http://www.cyclefit.co.za
  10. My wife has the Reno and I have the Phoenix. We are not serious MTBers so they are more than good enough for our use. If you intend to ride fairly often and do some rough stuff then you should maybe look at a bike 1 level up. As Mudda said, first try the hardtail before splashing out on the DS. Make sure it is something you want to do before spending the big bucks. If you buy an MTB with a farly good gruppo on to start with, then you can just upgrade the frame later if you want to go DS.
  11. Does anyone know how much a spanner for external bearings cost? And where can I buy one? I have a set of Shimano Ultegra pedals which I want to service. Do LBS's stock spanners to remove the plastic nut that hold the axle in or must I rather use my waterpump plier to loosen the nut? Are the nuts both lefthand thread or is the left pedal a righthand thread?
  12. I had a call from Bicycling late last week informing me that my subscription will be coming to an end soon. They wanted to know if I wanted to renew subscription. Luckily I controlled myself and told them in a very cheery voice that I was not going to. Even with a 35% discount it is still not woth it. I see this month the magazine is down to 96 pages. If I had to speed read the mag I would be finished before I even start
  13. I have never ever had the misfortune of owning a Peugeot! And I never said I did I have a nice shiney Eddymerckx Thanks for the tip JB. As usual you always a solution for finding a problem. Don't you have a safer way that meets the requirements of the OHSACT? Is there anyone that has a spanner that they could lend me so that I can remove my BB and give it a good cleanout?....Pretty pleez
  14. How does a person know when a BB with external bearings needs to be serviced? My bike seems to have developed a ticking noise when standing and pedalling and I suspect it could be the BB bearings, but am not sure as it is a different type of bearing to the older sealed BB's. I haven't serviced mine since it was installed on my bike about 3 years ago.
  15. Still got no answers??? It's because nobody knows The only reason why we all need to registeredwith the CSA (road, MTB and all other disciplines of cycling), is so that the CSA can prove to the government how many people participate in the sport. The more people who are reigistered means more funding from the government for "development". Further more than that there is absolutely no good reason for having a licence. It does not help with seeding, cheaper entry fees, better marshalling etc etc etc...... The only people who are really benifiting from this extremely time consuming, frustrating, inefficient, foot dragging exercise is the CSA, because they get money from the government....so that they can build swimmingpools and buy cars
  16. I agree. Open a case of theft at the SAPS. I'm sure something/someone will crawl out of the woodwork before too long.
  17. Thanks for advice people. Lucky I don't have weight issues, so the carbs won't do anything to me. I will try stock up on some fruit and try get more sleep in....if my family allows it. I forgot to mention how phucked I really was yesterday morning....coming through town to Hatfield, I was going up Beatrix street to turn into Church street when a guy on a hypermaket-special MTB wearing tekkies and baggies passed me...I wonder what he was thinking
  18. I got a good way to spray your bike and it won't jeopardise your warranty....And you can get it off afterwards. Just look down between your legs, close one nostril....
  19. What are the best foods to eat to help with recovery? I'm not talking about the expensive recovery drinks available from health and pharmacy stores, just normal everyday food and fruit. I have been on the bike for 3 weeks and had a fairly rough training session (2x90km) last weekend and am feeling rather burnt out at the moment. I cycled to work this morning and felt as if I wanted to die I thought that if I took Monday off I would recover enough, but it didn't seem to help. Has anyone got some advice?Speed Devil2009-04-01 11:41:38
  20. I roll my tube up tight and put it in a plastic bank bag. The only time my tubes have scuffed through was when I put an elastic band around the tube. After a while the elastic band seems to "attack" the rubber and leave it very thin where the two touched each other. When using it one day I was left with about 8 holes in the tube and couldn't understand because it was a brand new tube tube which had never been used. After it happened to another tube I realized what was happening and started using bank bags. Another problem is the rivets that keep the bag and bracket together. They also seem to chaffe the tube through, so I put a piece of hard plastic (coke bottle) inside the bank bag to prevent this
  21. THIS BIKE IS ILLEGAL!!!!!...I think I will have to speak to a few race officials Well done Carlo. I hope you have plenty of happy km's on her
  22. That photo has been seriously photoshopped
  23. Sorry I have not posted earlier, but I can't get onto the HUB from work and my XP at home is messing around. So here goes....
  24. It all comes down to your budget at the end of the day. If you can afford it then buy it. If you got a small budget then make one like rest of us armgatte. Then you got something you can be proud of too and brag about your DIY skills
