  1. bare in mind a lot of point n shoots have good optical range these days. but sounds like you are on the right track none the less enjoy and let us know what you end up spending your dollars on
  2. eish which jumps, i have a habit of over clearing jumps at the best of times
  3. yeah that fuji is a beaut, i cant warrant the cost tho. rather spend my spare pennies growing my lens collection so far. canon 10-22mm f3.5-4.5, canon 50mm f1.4, canon 15-85m f3.5-5.6 and the canon 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L expensive hobbie next on the list is the canon 70-200 f2.8 IS then ill start looking at maybe getting a 17-55 f2.8 and maybe a 24-105 f4 L ahh decisions decisions
  4. good question i often end up advising a lot of friends to go for a good point n shoot in the end. you need to decide if the dslr route is for you. changing lenses, worrying about shutter count etc. i believe if you are going to keep your camera in 'auto' mode then a point and shoot is best for you. and in saying this there are some awesome options these days and they take amazing photos, such as the G series canon cameras, nikon also has some great options.
  5. yeah it hasn't come with on the bike yet, my inherent lack of riding skill doesn't warrant the risk
  6. came round a corner at giba and had 2 horses asses staring at me... i kakked a little. horse was not stoked with us sneaking past, back leg was flaring haha
  7. yup as i say its one of those topics people will argue to the death. both are just as capable. you will however find that a heavier camera is generally more sturdy. but damn your hand gets tired i think the canon 7D which i have now weighs over 800grams roughly double the 1100D but mine does have a magnesium body and all sorts of weather sealing and other crap. if i were to tell you to buy one or the other i would be biased and say get canon
  8. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3134/3137086119_c69afa4b85.jpg another old one with my old sony a200
  9. you need to decide if you want a nikon or canon. its like comparing sram and shimano. also understand that you generally start to build up lenses, good glass is where your money will eventually end up being spent later on. your body will change over time, but lenses tend to last a lot longer. thus i chose canon as i found its easy to get hold of second hand canon lens' etc. basically you pick a brand and stick to it, changing over is a costly experience and a lot boils down to personal preference. what i can suggest is you have a close look at each camera and pick it up feel it in your hands and decide which works best and feels best in YOUR hands. i have a canon 7D now with a good collection of lenses. i did start on a sony a200 (which i loved) but this was stolen and i opted to go the canon route as i said due to the availability of second hand accesories
  10. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2558/3813455275_15446cba07.jpg old photo of Zebra and Giraffe front man
  11. caerus, learn to stand man hahaha, had some fun surf on the south coast sat and sunday, burnt to a crisp tho and as for riding slowly, those uphills are stupidly steep. i cant even get up in granny gear in cruise mode
  12. yeah pursue the insurance option, i was in the process of getting insurance for a car and it required gear lock etc before they would cover. trues bob the day i left my car with my father to get the alarm system/gear lock fitted it was stolen. insurance paid under the premise that it was in the process of getting done, full pay out
  13. bleak i didnt make it there this weekend, lets hope next weekend happens
  14. toti cycling club im sure has mtb rides. if you like xc and train for speed i can put you in contact with some people
  15. i use a product called dirt devil, not sure if its still available. isnt a degreaser etc but man it works on mud and dust. same recipe, wet bike, spray on, let stand for a bit without drying, hose off. hard to reach places or tough dirt i use a soft cloth and its all off. i bought 25litres of the stuff a while back, use it diluted its lasted forever, used to use it on my motocross bike before selling it. now using it on the mtb
  16. haha love it, so cheesey
  17. anyone remember that old add where the cyclist kept resting on the guys car. then the motorist gets clever and reverses at the moment the cyclist is about to lean on the car again... ahh i enjoyed that one/ what was the ad for hijack off
  18. bugger that, no chance ill ride up that, we just drove up in winter and hit it downhill, 9kms of bone rattling brake fading fun/ word of warning (speaking from experience) if you are the dude in front and you think you are cool, it doesnt mean that patch of mud/snow/ice on the corner has any traction, you will fall... HARD. haha was such a jol tho, out of 4 bikes 2 broke, my seatpost dropped into my shock (crap frame design and lack of attention on my part) and a friends front fork partly dismantled/
  19. sweeet i think ill be there this weekend/ we have a 4x4 anyway so not too stressed about that, either that or a corsa bakkie. amped!
  20. maybe a silly question is there road access to the top, im a lazy rider
  21. friends were raving about the new jumps etc. i cant wait to give it a bash, but im scared of summer haha, i prefer to stick to surfing in the summer months
  22. its more about learning how to react to certain things. in other words ride more the speed will come, you don't have to force it. but if you really want to hit 40 then white knuckle it.
  23. 21 year old and that time of the morning, id be surprised if he was not under the influence. i was 21 once and did many stupid things, luckily none so severe. and as for slowing down when cars come. i do it, regardless of the gradient. ill even stop and move off the road if i feel im in a area where cars tend to cut the corner or there is minimal room to cycle. so i wouldn.t discredit the statement.
  24. for those asking about virginia, definately make your way there, best trails i have ridden (have yet to get to holla as i am on the south coast so virginia is closer for me. last i was at virgina they were building more facilities, more showers/toilets and a coffee shop as far as i remember/ as for giba, its hard to get lost, but you probably wont be able to follow a complete route. the marking is terrible everytime i go, after numerous chats to the owners. well done to holla for making an effort and actually acting on the comment. Giba merely said we are too busy and dont have the time to check all the signboards at the moment and are also busy with new trails and dont see the need to get the old ones fixed. (my translation) and the same day i got a mail asking me to renew my annual pass, needless to say i didnt.
