  1. Number collection on race day please?
  2. Funny you should mention that. The traffic dept used to have units (not sure if they still do) who were dispatched to an accident scene purely to check if state property (traffic lights, etc) were damaged and to get the details of the person responsible. It would've been nice to have someone there to check procedure. The sad fact is that prosecution depts are overwhelmed, understaffed etc. I have yet to see a court case being handled decisively and finalized on the accused first appearance. I agree our cycling federation must get on board and so we will all feel we contribute to saver cycling. Pay a few lawyers in each province a retention fee and be available on a cellphone number for guidance to all who find themselves a witness to such crime?
  3. 100% Police aren't properly trained to follow correct procedure to ensure proper prosecution, ie early blood tests and docket handling is compromised by corrupt officers, even intimidating witnessess, soliciting bribes. Lack of police in early hours of morning when these drunkards try to get themselves home. Hands up who has ever seen a patrol car around the suburbs whilst out cycling at 4, 5am over weekends? Instead of hiding behind a wall in the middle of the highway (illegal as pedestrians aren't allowed on freeways), set up a road block in a 1 km radius around clubs and make a difference.
  4. I agree 100% But intent must be proved. So instead of placing a charge on paper where the prosecutor won't be able to prove it and the killer might go free, he must be charged with culpable homocide. But the prosecutor must ask for aggravated circumstances, which will bring it on par with a murder sentence. What annoys me about our legal system and drunken driving charges, is that the person is charged with the DUI, but if fact that he took a decision to get hammered and he knows he will do something reckless, stupid, against the law, if he's above the limit, is thrown out the window. Condolences to the family.
  5. We've been wrestling with the same issue since we got the new car, it 's got roof rails, ready for roof rack, but afraid we'd forget to take the bikes off first before parking. And no more tandem racing. With no towbar, it means R5500 first for a factory fitted one, ( not to void warrantee), before we can even start to look at brackets.
  8. Either the metro cops were late, but orgs only hooked up their PA system by about 7h45. Nice to see acknowledgement for hand cyclists at prize giving.
  9. Hell. What a windy ride! I can still taste the dust blowing across the mielie field. Many lazy buggers who will do anything to cling to a wheel in front of them Organisers took a gamble with our safety with the 60km ride doing a out and back on the same road. The road is just too busy, no shoulder, plenty trucks and irate motorists who can't pass as cyclists are coming and going in both directions. Shame on orgs for no prizes for 105km open cat winners, even though they had prizes for the 60km open.
  10. What a nice event. For the first time this year at an event, clean toilets-yeah! In general More thought needed for starting order, tandems must start after the open group and make their own racing happen. Most of them fall off the back on an incline only to bring the singles back to the group on the downhill.
  11. Why on earth would you increase the entry towards the end anyway? A pre-entry is a pre-entry, as long as the rider enters before end date. If you want to ask r310 for a ride, get your race reg in order. Last time it was a circus.
  12. We will be there! Great alternative to Campus2 campus and much cheaper= R130 against R210. And it's nice to see some organisers give tandems discount=R150 for the ride. Cool idea to donate non-perishable food for a good cause.
  13. Sadly it'll keep regular visitors away from the drive when we visit Cape town at R66 a trip. Stupid contractor who compares the cable car station to what they're building now. If it weren't for the toll, the containers/offices would not have been necessary. But yeah, city's probably trying to make the best of the situation they're already in.
  14. It sounded like those residents are unhappy with the city giving away land to the contractor and the residents still stay on top of each other. Sounded like the contractor milked the city to the extreme while 'doing maintenance' on chappies, whilst nobody had access to the road to see if they are really doing the work. Contractor made more money having the road closed than open. Imagine what infrastructure the R57m could've set in place instead of paying inflated projected rates.
  15. Thanks for the # collection on the day! As for the route: tough with very few places to rest the legs.Well done on a challenging route. Missed truck ramp completely, but it was my fault.Followed some 20 riders who turned right a few metres up in the road and we made a nice detour to the tar and back out again. Nice day out!
  16. I disagree. Seeding had nothing to do with the hold up.. Tell that nonsense to the long distance riders standing in a 200m queue with half marathonners. As for the 5 min wait to pass the finish, It was just bad planning. I show my appreciation by paying an entry fee. I pay-the supplier (should) deliver. And like someone else mentioned earlier, the organiser has a short memory. Same crap, different year.
  17. An organiser who promises route change to avoid the bad bottlenecks, only not to deliver, poor form. Stood 20 min in queue to ride the single track at the river. And a poorly constructed bridge that disintegrated after the first 200 riders went accross. Not wasting my bucks on this event next year.
  18. Some of you are worse than handbag slinging women looking for a sensational story. Bet a lot of you don't even buy of sell on the hub so it's nothing to you. The dude has cleared up his side of the story, which you demanded. Perhaps poor judgement, but it doesn't make him a crook.
  19. I need a lift on Sat morning from George to the start please. Flying in late Friday night and I'm support driver for a team. Anyone driving past town and has space for this soul and her overnight bag, please pm me. Willing to pay your petrol to Willowmore. (as long as you don't drive a F250 or bigger.)
  20. I'd say Use the good legal advice you received. Also now is not the time to lecture the kid on earphones, helmets etc. the less is said, the better. Pay your R2,500 school fees and have the insurance sort the rest. Accidents happen to the best of us. Hope all works out well for you.
  21. But he replaced the rear wheel.
  22. Well done to caster for the silver medal. Now it's time for changing coaches. Maria motolo means well and she was a good athlete in her time. But this 1980's type late charge in the final 100metres is old. She needs proper coaching so she is not left behind over 700m and then needs to claw her way back in the final straight.
  23. Seems like he was changing gears when he came out of the corner. Perhaps his gears got stuck and when that happens it usually looks like the whole bike comes to a halt. Hats off to him for not giving up.
  24. Philip buys finished the race on a different wheel. So he must've had a mechanical stop which made him lose more time other than the fall. I'm sure we saw something break off from the bike on that fall. ( slow slow motion on pvr) Good race nonetheless. Proud of him and nice to see all the local racers perform.
