  1. surely food poisening would've affected just about the whole field, not just a few. Good hygiene is vital at stage events.
  2. for this simple reason that our local airlines and acsa are not reliable, we decided to drive from jhb to dbn airport and took the shuttle. It added many hrs to our travel time but we were assured of our arrival. Sorry about your bad luck.
  3. B in trail. They must've seen hubby's J2c seeding, because it's not my seeding.
  4. In an ideal world, yes. But with unemployment at its highest, and the older white male a dying breed in the work place, it's the harsh reality that work comes before play. Ratty, don't wait another year to partner up with dad. Find a nice two, three day event in the very near future and enjoy that time with him. I'm sure for him it's about riding with you, doesn't matter what event it is.
  5. No, be confident in your training you've done. Make a decision to switch off to talk about how difficult the race will be and get excited about the people, sights you'll be sharing. So what if we're a bit slower because of an extra uphill. We'll get to the end when we get there. (shooo-whaaa) I think the Sabie marathon in Feb had a lot to do with my mindset right now.
  6. Not sure when it closes, but go check it out: www.magaliesmonster.co.za
  7. Whether the business is successful or not, is not in question. Check their booking policy and see if there's any mention of their cancellation policy. Every business should have one.
  8. Watch Rai, channel 430 tonight at 6-8pm for today's stage, tomorrow 4-6pm for stage 3.
  9. Hubby clocked a 5h40 today. says there was a 10km climb that wasn't in last year's stage. Watched the coverage on tv tonight.what an awesome view of the valley from the top.
  10. Some feedback from the Joberg2c camp, somewhat relevant as it'll be our 2nd day. Husband's complaining the route was tough. He said there was a BIG climb that would just not end. Perhaps his 8 day old legs are feeling it but he has me somewhat worried. My friends had a 9hr+ day.
  11. Don't know why but not yet excited. Battled 4yrs to get an entry and now that we have it... Took a dive at the mountain trophy last week and my wrist hurts. Maybe that's the damper.
  12. Husband's riding the Joberg2c(3rd one), he said out of 7 days so far, yesterday was by far, the best and fastest. He said the weather is great, at some stages they got 40deg, maybe too hot. Let him get his racing out of his system, so he can line up with me next week. Some friends are riding the relay, so I'll be keeping an eye on them so I know what to expect.
  13. Why do you say that? Both days I grabbed the food and left.
  14. Those bells are cute, bought one for my 6 yr old niece. a bell won't have the right effect.you'll scare riders, sneaking up on them, and the opposite will happen instead of giving way, they'll swerve and end up right in front of you. All that's needed is a friendly call.
  15. I'm using Selle Italia Gel Flow Ladies saddle on road, mtb and tandem. Best move I made 9yrs ago and will not consider any other brand.
  16. Sadly we had some lengthy delays on day 1, once we turned right into the single track from the main dirt road early in the race, on the rocky descent shortly thereafter and a 15 (!) minute wait at the river crossing.
  17. As for work, many Gautengers don't have much choice but to stick with the car. Roads are extremely busy at 5h30, in winter the sun only rises at 7h00. Perhaps limit the amount of races, or cruising around on weekends?
  18. 94.7mtb race is over subscribed, it takes one person to stop at a section and every one has to get off their bikes. One day you'll walk over a section and you'll be thankful for the other riders' patience with you stoppage.
  19. Dude, why were these "slow" riders ahead of you at the bottleneck, if you're so hot on the bike? Perhaps try to pitch up early on the start line and try and stay ahead of them. Problem solved.
  20. No one has mentioned the "ugly butt view from behind." seeing a guy's butt crack while riding behind him, is enough to speed past untill you legs fall off.
  21. We stayed in the hostel a few years ago. Tight squeeze in the rooms with bikes, bags etc, but we managed. Close to the start. Biggest hassle was taking all our own linen. Friday night we had a big mouth auntie further down the hall who just would not shut up. Saturday night she turned in by 8pm. Bliss.
  22. I have the pamphlet at home. Xperience is as 'AfterDark' said, and the Lite is now only 2 days: prologue of 30km and a 40km or something.
  23. Were you there this morning? We passed S4 just past 6am and only saw the 6-group riders cycling from TDF 's direction. Had a chilly 60km ride, sorry if we missed you.
  24. We usually meet cnr Rondebult/north rand rd. We'll be on the tandem, we decide on the morning as our training group has fallen flat on its face after the argus .
  25. Old wives tale or not, you only have one ticker and to put unnecessary strain on it is a no-no for me.
