  1. I had the same issue. The QR seat-clamp is mostly the cause of your problem... Get yourself a proper seatclamp and do the following; 1. CLEAN everything (seatpost, seat tube, clamp ect. Degrease and scrub if you have to) 2. Lightly grease everything (seat rails, tubes, post) 3. Re sssemble 4. TORQUE to spec Problem solved. A suggestion, is a Thomson seatclamp and seatpost. The clamp is AWESOME, and the riffles on the seatpost helps keep it in place. I know it is relatively expensive, but for the amount of frustration it causes, there is NO price to high to pay!!! If you buy components, follow this guideline: Cheap, Strong, Light... Choose any 2
  2. If you find that on the net, PM me the details, I WILL buy shares
  3. Anytime bud. Just ask, we are all here to help / add / motivate each other on the love / passion we share for a sport
  4. Hi there JGdp You again... Have a good one
  5. If you are a racing snake... 29er HT running tyre pressures lekker low (adds some suspension) If you are a bigger guy and ride because of the love for cycling and the outdoors, a 29er Fully Enjoy the shopping
  6. JGdp, Have a look at Rushsports.co.za There you will pay roughly the same as a dealer, but with excellent service and backup. Stock as well... RE your saddle, maybe you should pack in a spare ass (behind side) Happy hooping
  7. No probs, always happy to help. Good luck with the 2012 Epic training... Just to make sure, you are building a HT for the Epic... :o:lol:
  8. Sorry bud, cannot help you there. For carbon (expensive), I would suggest to buy from a reputable dealer and the frame MUST have some sort of warranty. PLEASE place a pic on the hub once your bike is done... Or PM me with a pic. Enjoy the build, this is 50% of the fun right there...
  9. JEE George!!!! At 75kg the Crests's will be 100% suited to you (recommended weight limit as per website... cannot find it now, but remember it to be around 85ks). Riding hard should not affect the Crest's, but your tyre pressures must be well suited to the terrain... RE Fox vs RockShox... I find the Fox's to be on the expensive side vs the same spec RockShox fork. I own 2x RockShox (Reba140mm RLT dual air tapered with maxle and Reba XX 120mm (set to 100mm) tapered with maxle), and all is good in the land of shock-world... Just look after them, service at recommended intervals and clean + lune stanchions after every ride. They will not let you down... Happy shopping Oh yes, a shop I could recommend, is Mike's Bikes Greenside JHB, 011 888 8868. For parts and the wheel-build
  10. My suggestion on a BUILD will be: Do everything at ONE shop. They should then see the benefit of the "bulk" of the profit, and could wheel and deal a bit better on a total build. Rather than bits and pieces from different places, all at full retail. Just my gut feel
  11. Hi RE ZTR, they are GREAT rims!!! Fuss free and easy tubeless setup. The big thing with ZTR Crest's, or any others for that matter), is to get the one that suits you (body weight wise and riding style wise). I weigh 105kg, and the Crests are not an option for me. So, I went with a set of ZTR Flow rims. BOMB PROOF!!!!!! on a set of Hope PRO2 hubs. Absolutely amazing. Remember, Crest rims at 380g and Flow rims at 525g (according to the Stan's website), it leaves you with a residual 290g exactly, as you are likely to use the same hubs and spokes... So, you decide if (in the bigger scheme of things), that 290g will be the difference in time you will want to see... But remember, if the Crest's aren't "really" suited for you, your maintenance and repairs will increase exponentially as time goes on AND the more the rim is "not suited" for what you need... You will not regret the ZTR's, just have the wheel built at a reputable wheel builder... Enjoys
  12. Hi there JGdp I have "built" up 2x 29er bikes now, one my NINER RIP9 and a MOMSEN 29AL frame built as a SS bike. IMO the "custom built" bikes are more expensive, but you HAVE TO put the stuff on you want. Like that it will prevent you from developing upgrade-itis in the coming months. RE the wheels, YES, they are the most important component on a 29" bike, BUT, and this is a big but... Decide ahead of time, whether you will be running a Race set of wheels AND a training set of wheels. IF, like me, you run only one set of wheels as a do it all, be very cautious going for the super-light stuff. Yes, you might get the ZTR race set much under RRP, but in the longer run you will cough up more... (repairs and replacing parts) From the start, get the RIGHT set of wheels, that suits your riding style and weight, and build them onto an indestructible set of hubs. Your wheels will (could / should) be a set and forget item. Weight schmeight... If you are a race snake, and entering races to win them all, well, then you should get a superlight set of racing wheels. If you enjoy riding and racing, and do it for the love of the sport and fun, then the added 250g on wheels you can shed by going for 1. a pee before you ride 2. half the content of of one of your drinking bottles 3. a smaller hand-pump 4. just take one spare tube with you on rides, and for more weight saving, remove the sealant from the tube... I hope this helps in your decision on spending your HARD earned cash... PS, have a look at the carbon HT Momsen, a good build, with Shimano XT all the way, for around R30 000. Oh yes, enjoy your new bike Keep em rolling
  13. 2 x 10 and still never in the right gear... All jokes aside, I have been on a 2x10 for over 2years now, all much of a muchness... Personal choice. 2x10 you have MUCH less redundant / duplicated gears. Just do it (the 2x10 I mean )
  14. Hello fellow MTB hubbers Here my two little puppies... Momsen is my latest project, and will be SS'ing all the way. Should be done in a week or so. NINER is my first love and my workhorse... Enjoy
  15. Even better, here is the Tel nrs: Work: 012 751 3003 Cell: 082 412 1689 Very helpful chap
  16. THX Eldron That helps a lot... This will be a new experience for me. Tried to leave my 20x in one gear, but ratios too FAR out to imagine what real SS is like. I cannot wait for my bike to be done, should be around month end.
  17. Sound GOOD, except for those irregular palpitations...
  18. Hi Hairy Roughly, at what speeds do you spin out on the 29er 32x18?
  19. Yep, it is the bash guard that makes it look bigger in the F. For my rear, I have a set of the following; 16T, 18T, 19T and a 20T sprocket. I am starting with the 18T, and we will see how she goes. Project should be complete by end of the month... CANNOT WAIT!!!
  20. It was a BIG thing for me to decide on, but in the end went with a 32T. The guys at NINER seems to think it is best for 29er...
  21. Pic
  22. Some more pics
  23. Hi there HUBBERS Here my latest project SS Now all I need is Fork... HAPPY DAYS!!!
  24. Wanted to, but my "spare" set of wheels on the Momsen 29AL has a 20mm thru axle, So 100mm sus it will be
