  1. We all expect safe races but then behave like idiots when it comes to taking responsibility for our own rubbish! It's not that difficult to put the empty packet back into one of the pockets on your shirt and just throw it away at the next water point ... or if you're a racing snake, it probably won't even have started leaking all over your shirt by the time you reach the finish line!
  2. If you're working as a "first aider" on any kind of sporting/endurance event, and a participant comes to you complaining of shortness of breath, rather err on the side of caution than allow them to continue. Believe me - the chest pain/shortness of breath that you feel just before you have a heart attack is nothing like the shortness of breath that we feel on hills! Yes, the guy probably should have stopped but when a suitably qualified medical person takes your vital signs and tells you that it's ok to continue, you tend to take their advice on face value. I'm not blaming the first aider. Nor am I blaming the victim of the heart attack. This is just my opinion, but if you're not suitably trained or fit then, really, you should NOT be participating in events like this. It's not a fun ride by any stretch of imagination. My deepest condolences to his friends and family, and Di, I take my hat off to you for being their for him and his family when this tragedy occurred.
  3. I saw you guys along the route! Very impressive
  4. Well said, turtlek!
  5. Sorry! It looks like there was a glitch when I hit "post reply"

  9. I remember seeing this bike on the mine dump ride. He looks great, amateur! Congrats and many dirty miles together!
  10. This is very sad. Condolences to friends and family
  11. Great report, turtlek. It's good to hear what's going on in the group and what the tactics were. I definitely think that the ER kermesse should be supported by more cyclists. It's a great venue with good road surfaces (even though it gets damn hot out there!) and is very well organised. Trust me - if I can brave it then everyone can!
  12. A huge thank you to all of the guys who made me feel so welcome at the kermesse yesterday! You guys are seriously impressive. One day when I'm big I might be able to keep up with you Turtlek, it was great to finally meet you. After reading about all your cycling exploits on The Hub it's good to be able to put a face to the name. Hope to see you at the 94.7 ... on your second lap, perhaps? To Peter, Thierry (sp) and everyone else who was there: thanks for everything. I'm definitely going to be back to defend my title !!
  13. I'm still amazed that nothing has fallen off or gone gangrenous thanks to that water!!!
  14. Hey SignGirl! Washing the bikes was the fun part Are we going to see you at the next one?
  15. Thanks, BigMig. See you on Saturday
  16. Ok, thanks turtlek. Will see if I can get confirmation from him.
  17. I think this sounds like a great idea but see that it's for licenced riders only. Is that correct?
  18. It was great to meet you, amateur. Thanks for all your technical tips! I agree that the mud made it really tough. It might not have been the longest distance-wise but constantly having to spin your legs to stop yourself from getting bogged down really took it out of you eventually!
  19. Sorry you had to leave too, TNT1. I think it's time to get the missus on a mtb MsBehavn2008-10-27 01:28:56
  20. I dunno hey' date=' I learn through repetition [/quote'] That would explain why I fell more than once yesterday ... and why I'm going to tag along on the next one!
  21. Hog ... I think we all learnt a few lessons that we won't forget in a while!
  22. Shocking, Speed Devil. It's so sad that we live in a country where it's almost acceptable to steal!!!
