  1. **** happens. My brand new XT cranks came loose after the shop torqued everything correctly. They had to put some thread lock in there to keep them on.
  2. Remember. Locktite... not Superglue
  3. Locktite thread lock on the screws, or get screws with a bit of threadlock on them, that blue stuff.
  4. My Trans teammate also does Ironman. He has bought lots of carbon frames from the company in question and postage has never been more than 3 weeks or so... but ja, holding thumbs.
  5. I don't know why anyone would buy a carbon frame, locally, for like R13k, when you get the same frame from China, WITH a warranty, for a third of that...? I just paid for mine 2 days ago. Cost me R4302 WITH shipping. Do you really want to spend R9000 on a set of stickers? 99.99% of carbon frames come out of China. Don't be so ignorant to think otherwise... Or that a certain sprayjob makes it better in any way. Sorry "local" brands, its all about keeping my cash in my pocket. Madness. Here's my new baby, arrival within 2 weeks. Beautiful UD Carbon... sexy.
  6. Yeah, the more reckless you ride the better fork you need
  7. You might have missed the part where I said that we're busy building bikes. So the bikes are not finished yet. Just have the forks now, and some of the other parts land tomorrow.
  8. Tapered, 9mm QR. Ek sien nie die advantage in TA nie. Moer, ry mens deesdae XC so rof dat mens 'n TA nodig het? Nee wat.
  9. I use lockout all the time. And no, my pedaling action isn't choppy. Doesn't matter what, you can't put serious power into your pedals standing up without some bob. Lock the b1tch out, stand up and rocket forward
  10. My Reba RLT came in at 1598g on the kitchen scale last night, not bad for a 29'er fork at all...
  11. *Hijack on* Building 29'ers for Trans Baviaans. Chinarello full carbon frames, Reba RLT, American Classic Race 29'er wheels - 1419g, and carbon everywhere else. Bikes are going to be super light and rocking! Did you know the 2012 Reba's weigh only 2 grams heavier than SID's ? I think I read somewhere that the SID's have slightly better damping units. Not worth the extra R1-2k to go SID. And either way, the damping won't be worse than say a 2011 Reba... *Hijack off*
  12. Got my new Reba RLT yesterday
  13. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/650B-wheel-size-comparison-diagram.jpg http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/650B-wheel-size-comparison02.jpg I see no place for 27.5 / 650B. And as you can see, a 27.5 is allot closer to 26'er than to 29'er - they are not "in the middle". Either you have a 26'er for XC racing IF THE COURSE IS SUITED TO THAT, or you have a 29'er for Marathon racing IF THE COURSE IS SUITED TO THAT, with a whole lot of overlap in the middle. I can see an small advantage in the 29'er craze, BUT adding ANOTHER wheel into the mix is really stupid. Marketing people... marketing. We were all happy with 26'ers for YEARS... What do the big corps do when sales start dwindeling and they sukkel to get new guys to enter the sport and buy bikes... lets target the guys already in the sport and convince then that their current 26'er is now worth nothing and you need a bike with 28.61" wheels to really go fast. And hey, while your are buying another bike Mr. Sucker Fish, this here 27.5" bike is better suited to this and that course. SPECIALIZED (Sam Benedict, MTB Product Marketing): It’s not new to riders, we looked at, and tested, it years ago and continue to pay attention to it. This latest surge is coming from the manufacturers though, not the riders which is interesting. KENDA (Ben Anderson, MTB PR): The sudden interest in all being driven by the OEM segment of the market. Aftermarket and end consumers are not the driving force and are in some cases sitting back, puzzled by this sudden burst of excitement in 650B. TOMAC (Joel Smith, Owner): Companies looking to grow their sales and differentiate it’s brand. It’s obvious the 29er market has matured and is saturated, so there’s few places to go to grow sales.
  14. I should play the Lotto this week...
  15. ...and what did I say? http://www.sport24.co.za/OtherSport/Athletics/Mamabolo-a-victim-of-racism-20120621 I should have put a bet on that one.
  16. Looks a little too good to be true...
  17. About 10 or 12 years ago or so, Shimano had a Silent Clutch option on their then STX groupset. The rear hub would spin with no noise, and would engage instantly when you start pedaling, and not have a bit of rotation before the hub kicks in.
  18. That sucks. Haven't seen you on the bike in a long time and now I know why. Hope you get well very soon.
  19. I put my phone in a pocpac. If I can't find the pocpac in a hurry, I just grab a sock.
  20. No. The Race To Witchmountain
  21. I can see race being brought into this one pretty quick, when it comes to giving up the winnings and title. Lets see.
  22. Don't bother with Baakens. Its a decent trail, but a one-way affair as such. You have to know the area to know how to plot out a circular route. Rather go do Norm Hudlin trails. That's where its at... R10 gets you in.
  23. Having raced against Marco many times, the kid is really quick. On XCO courses he is difficult to beat, but due to his age us older guys have a slight edge on him in longer marathon style races. I dread when he turns 20, I'll have no chance anymore :-)
