  1. The steerer. The crown. The Stanchions. The seals. Basically the whole fork. Then you can buy a Rock Shox.
  2. My friend had the same issue. A crank supposedly in stock was not and he waited more than seven days extra.
  3. " acceleration with the narrower tire was faster however the wider tire gives more traction....was with the same car I dont mean proven by all this scientifical stuff....just saying that a narrower tire was faster with the acceleration times..... " This makes sense to me as accelation is quite weight dependant (formula 1 car is slower off the mark than a superbike) but continous rolling is more related to power vs. general friction (tyres on road and wind resistance) - where the F1 car now outperforms the superbike).
  4. "When my dad used to race, it was proven a narrower tire is faster on acceleration, however the wider tire corners better.... " How was it proven? By careful use of machines and measuring like above or by getting 'seat of the pants' opinions from riders?
  5. Its bucketing down in Randburg! Enjoy the swim!
  6. Yes. Go for it! A dual is just plain fun bombing it down a rough mountainside! Screw the added weight and loss of control and flickability! Yeeha!
  7. You will pay import duty on parts. You will pay a higher rate of import duty on full bikes.
  8. "@ Just Keep Pedaling - didn't schwalbe have something about that on their website a while back? " Just did a google. It is the same research. See page 6. They say the difference is significant. http://www.bernhansen.com/Tester/Dekktrykk,%20bredde%20og%20knastens%20innvirkning%20-%20schwalbe.pdf
  9. Some dude did a thesis on rolling resistance on mtb tires. He found that on most terrain (tar excluded) wider tires have lower rolling resistance. The differences were very small though...
  10. "Or who can i trust to service/ repair my shock." Johan Bornman. www.yellowsaddle.co.za.
  11. "Other way round" Surely an 8 speed cassette is the same width as a 10 speed cassette so the indexing on an 8 spped shifter will cause the chain to rest between the cogs on a 10 speed casette? Note: There must be 1000 other threads on the internet on the same topic.
  12. Not an expert at all. The shifters won't work. As far as I know there is no such thing as an x speed hub so that should work fine.
  13. We can call the section 'Trolls section'.
  14. Honestly - I think the real reason is you are going WAY faster on a road bike - if the roadie says 'hi' by the time the dude on the mtb replies he is too far gone to reply.
  15. XT Derailers are enormously strong. I had one ripped off at the hanger. It survived no bending etc. Never had the chance to try SRAM.
  16. It is made for 50kg Italians! Join the dark side and buy a Brooks.
  17. "How precisely do you guy a bike?? " Common decency would allow me 30 seconds to correct typo's. Typical roady. See what I mean? /jk ha ha ha ha ha ha
  18. I ride my MTB at Teaks place and the roadies fly by on the tar road. They always shout hello but I just ignore them. Losers. Buy a real bike. Seriously.
  19. Neill Pheiffer perhaps?
  20. Headset: Chris King. Is the fork a rigid? Do you have a weight in mind?
  21. For more than 80km I suggest Brooks. Minimal friction compared to plastic saddles and the 'give' is over the entire saddle as apposed to a localised area with plastic saddles. That being said...Brooks are dog ugly and if you are too light you might not be able to break it in. I bought a Brooks for Christmas - been great so far.
  22. Also buying a saddle for wife. I am sold on Specialized. Why? 1. Comes in 3 different widths and they have a machine to measure you at the Melrose Arch store. 2. They allow you to take a test saddle for a week. 3. They are about R1000 for the better ones. (only downside is it turns out the one my wife tested is more of a road saddle - she loved it but it only available in white - which would ruin the whole bike colour scheme).
  23. "William Moffet Drive is pretty steep" When you reach the bottom of the hill feel the rotors with your fingers. I dare you.
  24. There is a 12 or 15 km ride too.
  25. Linden. They are good but they are a victem of their own success being too busy to cope most of the time.
