  1. If you do it the other way around, I'll join you up until Knysna... Been trying to plan a trip like this for ages.
  2. Aaah, the Camps Bay side is also awesome! That windy section of Kloof Road / Weg through the forest is amazing!!!
  3. I find that up the really steep hills, I literally can't carry on climbing while seated, but I can carry on standing. So standing is sometimes the only option for me. (eg. Kloof Nek = 200m in 2km, with a 34/27 setup) Up average hills, it's obviously easier and I definately am able to ride faster while sitting. So sitting is the way to go, if you can. So I will try stay seated as long as I can up the hills.
  4. Ok, I've recently started doing more climbing in the hope of getting stronger up hills on my road bike. I now climb up kloof nek at least twice a week and try do some other infamous hills around Cape Town on the weekends. My problem is that I can't seem to stay seated up some of the hills. My legs just die out. So I am forced to stand, which seems way easier than sitting. For example, I stand maybe 80% of the way up Kloof Nek. (This may be an extreme example) I know I can ride faster when I am sitting, but I just can't sustain long enough and end up standing. My question is this: Is this training any good, or should I be pushing myself to stay seated up the hills?
  5. I have started riding this route after work. From the City centre, up Kloof Nek, across Table Mountain and then to Signal Hill and back. Amazing ride. And right at our doorstep. If anyone wants to join me, I ride it at least twice a week in the afternoons. (Road bikes only - otherwise it's way too easy ) 26km loop, 580m climb, +/- 70 minutes.
  6. Flip, that looks fun. If you're gonna do something like this, do it properly. Well done!
  7. Although I would really love to cycle along the N2, I would never do it...
  8. Haha Where are the knights of Ni?
  9. Wooden pallets fixed ontop of those blue plastic drums. You can then partially fill the drums to lower it and get some stability. We built one as kids and it worked out great!
  10. Anyone keen for a ride over the pass on Sunday? I'm leaving from Table View at 9:00.
  11. Is it safe?
  12. Thanks Hairy. (Ps. Mr. Dick Morkel says hi...)
  13. This place is amazing. Easily the best MTB trails in the cape, in my opinion. It's a pity about some of the trees being cut down, but there are still plenty of brilliant foresty sections to ride through Some of the aftermath from yesterday:
  14. Has anyone been able to enter this event yet?
  15. Nice vid I'm heading out that way this weekend, hopefully catch some of the mud
  16. Haha, that's funny
  17. Hmmm, I thought you guys would say that. Darn you all!!!
  18. I just got my first road bike and I'm struggling to climb some hills. I'm just not used to my new gears. I have a double compact crank - 50/34 and a 9 speed cassette - 11/27. Shimano 105 group set. I would like to know if I can get a smaller front chain ring, or a bigger rear chain ring, to help me with my climbing. Is it just a case of replacing the chain rings? Where can I get them? What are the limtations? Thanks
  19. It's a sad, sad situation we're in, but come one guys - don't ride alone!!!
  20. Haha, brilliant. Thanks for the survey, guys. Now to prove that cycling makes better looking children, for the wives to buy into it!
  21. One of my friends mentioned the other day that he would never start cycling, because he had a theory: A theory about how cyclists cannot have sons - only daughters. His logic was not sound, as it involved the squashing of certain "male producing bits", leaving only female producing ones behind. I obviously called him crazy and our friendship was frozen in time! However... Since then, I have not been able to find a man, who has been cycling seriously for a considerable amount of time, who has successfully had a son of his own. So, I was kind of hoping that some of you could dis-prove his theory, as my wife is now threatening (more than usual) to throw my bikes in front of a truck! Please help. Sincerely Moderately concerned cyclist
  22. I think it's nonsense. Out of all the things we could possibly control with our minds, why would they make it gears on a bicycle?
  23. Are you the lady who lost her pedal?
  24. Aah man, what a great event. My first Burger as well, and probably my favourite event so far! Just loved all the little bits of single track through those trees. I didn’t even mind all the traffic jams, it was so amazing. That guy who fell at about 31kms broke his arm. Someone came to pick him up and I think he was ok. I didn’t get any threats from the kids, but did get chased by their dog, which almost bit me!
  25. I don't want those claws holding my bum!!!
