  1. Hi Johan, Great route thanks. What was the total ascent for the marathon route. My Garmin measured 1581m and I would like to verify the accuracy?
  2. The croc is dry, so must have been a spectator for a while. Wonder if Ariane even noticed.
  3. Great event. As hard as expected, thanks for all the good info from the hubbers that conquered it previously. It might have been too big a suprise if one was totally unprepared for what was coming.
  4. Get the 45km entry and upgrade to the 80km at registration, should not be a problem
  5. haha, wys jou staal!
  6. There are exceptions, Rouxtjie sold to me. And my english is pretty ***. A very long distance ago, I lend to speak english very deliciously, since I was twice.
  7. I saw the price giving is at 13:00. I guess about only 25% of the field will be done by then. I aim to be in by 15:00 - I hope!
  8. Went over Breedts Nek twice on Saturday with total ride at 76km, 1570m ascent and time of 04hr49. I am revising my Monster estimate to 7hrs plus. Eina.
  9. Sorry Gen, somehow posted inside your post.
  10. I was amazed at the amount of Mtb'ers on Breedts Nek this past Saturday. Probably a mix of guys training for the Monster, Joberg2C etc. Anyone know where you join the road after the Monster climb to decent on Breedts Nek?
  11. Some personal replies simply stated "HTFU"
  12. Well done on being out there at that temp. I wonder what the temp were at dawn?
  13. I am sorted on keeping most body parts warm and cosy during winter time - to the required extend. My hands, on the other hand, is still a challenge. Please share tips on keeping your hands from freezing during winter training rides brand / type of gloves you swear by if you would rather hibernate
  14. In which book, paper, article by Noakes has he claimed that it is a cure-all diet?
  15. Flip-flopper? I takes balls to stand up and say you were wrong - irrespective if you are right. Very few people can admit to that.
  16. Your living on the edge man - too extreme for me.
  17. Ok, so a person must heed the risks, take an informed decision, experiment and measure the results to allow you to cease the approach if not for you. I think that is what many hubbers that are in the LCHF camp - including Noakes - are saying. There were plenty studies on both sides if you take a totally unbaised look. However, very few with humans due to ethic codes etc. I personally, prefer evidence however anectodal it might be, of living humans that can share their experience and results. We are happy to take Bear Grylls word on survival, but unhappy to take Noakes and our fellow cyclists word on their own experience and results.
  18. You seem happy to ignore the risks of a high carb diet. As you said ignore at your own peril. Age old studies that promotes high carb diets have been found wanting (of banting). It will be a to and fro for more time that I care to consider. The general layman like me that is a weekend warrior, not skinny but very happy to participate in the sport that make me feel great, prefer to experiment with whatever "program" that deliver results. And the LCHF lifestyle has resulted in me being the healthiest and strongest I have ever been. I have none of the allergies left that used to be a constant issue. You do not need a double blind study to confrim that. All, and I empasise ALL of my friends that went on to the lifetsyle has the same results. I firmly believe that only a very small percenatge of the population can process sugar and grains with no effect, the rest will suffer because of it. The proof is in the pudding... em fat.
  19. Just more than 7 weeks away, hope the training is going well. Anyone interested in a 7-week performance training program by Carmichael / Lance?
  20. Yeah, dangerous area. A buddy and I were relieved of our MTB’s in May 2010 on the singletrack going down to the corner of the concrete works. The bastards were hiding in the ditch just past the dirt road crossing. Sadly that was the last time I went riding there. @Evan - Had 4.5yrs of unmolested fun there and we thankfully where not seriously hurt when robbed. I would be careful none the less if I were you. Your size might make them extra aggressive to ensure their own survival. I am trying to convince myself that most of these bastards steal our bikes to survive.
  21. Yeah, I gathered. I am not under estimating this one and am putting in the kms.
  22. Thanks guys. @marshace - cool, cheap idea!
  23. Hallo All, I am looking for a Garmin Forerunner 310XT replacement wrist strap to fit my Garmin Edge 500 onto/into while doing cross training. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Thanks.
