  1. When I'm up and riding again I want to bring my 26" Ragley ht to Hakahana. It likes the gnarly stuff.
  2. Drop off? Is there a new trail feature up there I haven't seen yet.
  3. Awesome. What is the elevation drop and length? We want to check out all the descents to decide on the 3rd line. PS. I won't take long
  4. Are you talking about the section on Rinkals where Nofearnofun, Murray_lotus7, Sidewinder and myself were building a new straighter line through one of the rock gardens? Almost everyone we saw battled with that section. Most walked it.
  5. Depends what size wheels the bike had! If it was a 26" it could be legit.
  6. A while ago I got a runner up to the KOM on a jumpy, rooty rutted downhill segment on the Spruit below Delta Park (it was a weekday late morning so don't give me grief ). The lower part of that segment was the rutted part and often got repaired in winter which is probably when the fastest was set... Haha. Anyway, just after my run they kinda dry concreted that lower section to make it safer for walkers and then put in some "gates" to make it difficult for MTBers to ride through there. So I guess the Strava times are now set in stone...
  7. Don't worry guys. The fairyhounds who built all the bridges and will replace, just like they always do. I wouldn't bother with Parks. According to them all those bridges are illegal.
  8. Need to put some no entry signs up from the wrong way Everyone is going to bail at some point. You just have to hope consequences are minimal.
  9. I've seen shorter stems on time trial bikes
  10. That stability you are referring to is dependant on terrain. It would actually be more stable on smooth, flat surfaces like tar roads but extremely unstable where you have to constantly fight the bars to correct your line - as you would through a rooty section or rock garden.
  11. Johan, does the race come down any of our new sections?
  12. They also raced DH with saddles at full XC height. The sport evolves... It is of course possible to go too wide on the bars. As you go wider you gain a lot of leverage on the bars up to a point, then you start losing leverage and your position is pulled too far forward. But that sweet spot for your shoulder width coupled with a short stem is heaven. It gets you pressing on the front of the bike for front traction without having your body all the way forward. It means you can get back over the (dropped?) saddle quickly and further. And this fore and aft movement with a shorter cockpit has a much more dramatic effect on managing the bikes front to rear balance - for weighting or unweighting either end.
  13. LOL. You had flat pedals without a dropper? No wonder you are so happy! The only way to stay planted on flats in tech sections and on jumps etc is to have the saddle out of the way. Even just pedalling over very uneven surfaces will help having it dropped a couple of cm.
  14. One of my best races was the 2002 94.7. I had to ride 20kms in less than an hour along Allandale Rd to go and fetch my race number from a friend who was brining it to me through the traffic jams. By the time I snuck late into my start chute I was pretty damn warm. The usual fast starting of the A group felt like nothing and I was able to get into a 20 man break group. I finished inside the top 250 overall under 2h30 iirc. So yes. Do a proper warm up, not just ride around the parking lot and up the road a bit. If you do train intervals, also do a proper warm up at least 15 minutes.
  15. Triple ring? You could have at least put a bash guard in place of the big ring before you asked her balance it on her head.
  16. Not sure. Never seen a bike problem he couldn't solve including Shimano. But he is one of the local master wheel builders, bike mechanic, (and car mechanic so mech knowledge is very high). Works as mechanic at races like Sani, BergnBush and J2C...
  17. There is a younger version of Johan B in Jhb. We call him Jason Geldenhuys. He works at International Trade. I heard that they sometimes used to consult each other...
  18. Haha yeah. Was just a bit tongue in cheek saying I don't really do lots of riding in straight lines wearing down the centre knobs (which are of a harder compound anyway). The other guys I know with Bronsons, the front lasts at least a year. Rear probably half that.
  19. I also corner with the bike leaned over all the way. Occasionally too far
  20. You sure Nukeproof don't make them anymore? I got one from CRC less than a year ago...
  21. Or shorten the stem. Improves the handling on just about any MTB...
  22. I wonder how many on this forum know exactly what it stands for? Or even where it comes from... legendary! I still have extra GF.A caps.
  23. How much income is derived from the concerts that they have about once a month?
  24. Very nice section between PnP and Peter Place.
  25. Thanks dude! We will see you for some more spade work in the not so distant future.
