  1. More pronounced is what I meant by different - because of the mass of bike.
  2. I wanted to include C of G but was trying not to overcomplicate it. Don't know if it worked. Maybe this will help the motorbikers... The relative difference in mass between bicycle and rider compared to motor bike and rider means that the C of G position changes much more on a bicycle. Thus counter steering and balance over the motorbike is different.
  3. For sure. At slow speed your stability decreases and "falling" to either side is more pronounced which is why you tend to steer more. It's not necessary to counter steer at walking speed but not only is it perfectly possible to do slowly, it is easier to demonstrate as you can exaggerate the movements.
  4. Best bang for the Buck!
  5. Ok, let's forget the technicalities of the physics of the wheelbase shortening. On a bicycle, you want to get the bike leaned over into a RH corner. Now think about it... - do you just lean your body (or fall) towards the inside of a corner and the bike follows by leaning over that side? You can, but horrible technique. You actually want to lean the bike but remain relatively upright. - do you just push down on the inside RH grip and pull up on the LH grip? You can but you are adding unnecessary additional forces to the steering which will not make for a smoothly railed corner. You will feel a lot of steering feedback and you will be forever correcting the line. - do you, on approaching the corner (standing), turn slightly to the left, this causes the bike to lean over to the right by itself (with no steering input), you remain balanced over the bike by staying upright with full weight on outside pedal. Then with very light hands you allow the bars to turn to the right and flop by themselves (best way I can explain it) into a position where they want to be. For every differing radius of corner, and different speeds there is an ideal bike lean angle with corresponding bar position. That's the best I can explain in writing. If you want better talk to me in person BTW... This works at parking lot speeds as well as when you are hauling the mail. Many people actually do counter steer without even knowing that they do. Also remember that riding a bike is a series of minute falls to either side. The closest a car comes to two wheeled counter steering is the Finnish Flick!
  6. Don't really want to go off topic here... but counter steering when on two wheels is a completely different concept to four.
  7. Nice idea. If you carried a device which activated the speakers in a following car kinda like when you get cel interference - or some other sort of warning. So this annoying sound gets louder and more frequent and higher pitched as proximity decreases and or direction is deemed to be too close to a collision. In other words, if a driver decreases speed and changes course slightly to maintain a 1.5m berth when coming up behind a cyclist, they won't get an annoying noise.
  8. At the end of the vid it says the 29er was a much higher spec than the Trance. And climbing with a dual vs hardtail. lol
  9. It will increase the height of your BB. Which isn't a train smash if you have a lowish BB to start off with.
  10. International Trade. Or chat to me bud.
  11. Nice reviews. I like the way my Bronsons force me to commit and lean the bike over properly.
  12. I'm 95kgs and running about 1.9bar rear and 1.7bar front. That's using my Birzman floorpump. My other pumps gauges over read substantially.
  13. This is the review I mentioned: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/140645-review-wtb-wolverine-and-bronson-26%E2%80%9D-am-tcs/page__hl__bronson
  14. I run 2.3 Bronson TCS front and rear. Great grip in most conditions as stated. It should be noted that pressure for your weight is critical with them. There is a small window where they are sublime but stray a little outside and you won't be having fun.
  15. Ja, well you are coming from Pretoria so nobrainer...
  16. Claudio on the Hub just reviewed some 26" WTB tyres.
  17. Thaba hills are shorter but probably meaner. Would be awesome preparation IMO.
  18. There is a very, very slight chance I won't need it. Our Swampdog's private trails 'The Holey Trails' near Fouriesburg in the Free State. They do hold an event once a year or so. Just to keep this on topic, here is the Hakahana vid. http://vimeo.com/97319351 PLEASE NOTE: The Trailseeker event doesn't go over the hectic trail features. There are also easier B and sometimes C lines.
  19. That depends on the person and their mindset (or whether they are open minded). I've helped newbies buy long travel bikes and get up to Enduro level in a couple of months - including a few Hubbers... The fact is that even if they don't start off riding the longer travel bike well, the stable geometry with wide bars and dropper post helps them gain confidence and progress very quickly. XC orientated students never progress as quickly.
  20. If you guys have a sandbagfull left... Just around the corner I identified a spot where there is a kicker going over a trench with a nice mound for a landing. Well, we arranged a bit of concrete and a few bricks. It shouldn't take long to complete. Its right next to that pedestrian gate leading to a dead end where Bantam Drive comes down.
  21. Whereabouts D?
  22. We had a long discussion on the hub about it a handful of months ago. Somewhere in Gravity.
  23. What you describe above is good technique for all wheel sizes. The only difference is that the bigger wheels take more effort to lean. A bit of counter steer in the opposite direction prior to the turn will help get the bike over easier.
  24. I often see a couple of groups of ladies riding together in the mornings. The older group Hayley mentioned 'The Cyclopaths' often ride evenings.
  25. It may be a couple more months. Bone graft still to come edit: following vid of my Ragley Marley single speed keeping up with Sidewinder on a dualsus down an #Enduro type trail. http://vimeo.com/84103893 There is also a vid on that account of the Hakahana Enduro line using most of Rinkals.
