  5. Rig up a single speed, short distances in the traffic can wear out clusters and chains very quickly. I also commute 13km (uphill) and when I am fit a single speed is the answer. (When I am not then the old eddy merckx corsa is the ride of choice.)
  6. thanks, that will save me stax.

The traditional method is to list the seat tube length, but even that varies because some are measured to the top of the seat tube and some to the middle of where the top tube joins the seat tube. Many manufacturers simply list their bikes as S, M and L, perhaps with XS or XL at either end. Either way, the measurement that matters more is top tube length. Together with seat position, stem length and handlebar position, top tube length dictates the comfort and efficiency of your body on the bike. To confuse matters further, the aspect of top tube length that matters is not the top tube itself, which often slopes, but a horizontal line from the middle top of the head tube to the middle of the seatpost. A guideline for saddle to handlebar reach is to put the tip of your elbow on the nose of the saddle and see how far your longest finger reaches along the stem; forearm length is generally a good indicator of full arm and torso length. Most riders looking for a fast and efficient trail riding posture will discover that their longest finger reaches to almost exactly halfway between the steerer top and the handlebar centre.
  9. size is not that relevant. I cycle a 16 inch on-one which has a TT length that is the same as some 17inch and 18 inch frames, so I should cycle a large Small (17 inch) of a small medium (17inch) or a 16 inch on-one.

    Inov-8

Problem is, is that the public believe what the companies say because they are too ignorant, illiterate or lazy to both to test the claims the companies make. Really, if I was selling something I would "Sell" it as the answer to the worlds problems, if you the buyer do not at least test some of my claims then he is not buying what he needs but rather the story I am selling. Consumer responsibiity is terribly under rated. People somehow assume that other people know what they want and what is best for them, and when it is not they want, they to blame everyone. I conceed that just like in cycling (carbon, 29er ext) running has also been deceived...........

mmmfffffha ha ha ha. What an idiot. paying a lawyer to sue a company that sells you a pair of shoes for less than $100. What an illiterate chop. did he think that running barefoot, the same way he ran with shoes on would reduce his already injured body? Yes the barefoot brigade can be deceptive, but the company did say you should land on your midfoot/ forefoot when using their shoes. This has been known to reduce injures in runners that traditionally are rearfoot strikers...........
  12. @lexx n bike parts packaged in with a complete bike, or are you guys going to check the stuff and split the duties?
  13. contact David Lappies at Cyclelab in PTA, he has lots of experience of riding in the DRC. In most cases they leave the Muzungo alone to his own crazy ways.
  14. note on costing: Planet-X and on-one will charge GBP70 for the shipment of one bicycle complete. You can fill the box with extras. UK VAT is 20% RSA VAT is 14% RSA duties on complete bike is 15% RSA duty on bike parts is 0%. however, it is yet to be determined if this 0% applies to parts shipped with a complete bike. Net addon on UK price will be about (Thimb suck) 10% This however where it gets interesting. RSA importers are known to split bikes up to side step the 15% duty which they then are able to work into their markup. In the end after importer, wholesalers, distributor and retailer have added their cuts, it is easier and cheaper to import complete bikes directly from UK retailers................(and pay the 10% penalty) and the 70pund postage (70times 14 plus fudge and commissions =R1400)
  15. Okay, I am not very good at getting things together, but here is a cool idea for marketing "Bike recovery systems" such as netstar and tracker. 1. get a closed area such as rietvlei, groenkloof ext. 2. install a tracking device on each entered bike. 3. set up a big screen to track all entered bikes over the area. 4. open the race in a unstructured "dawn to dusk type" format, with the arrangement that riders can ride anywhere in the designated area for the full period (bikes are not allowed to leave the terrian) 5. award prizes for the bike that acheives the most elevation covered, longest distances, longest duration between stops, most diverse routes (area coverage) and furtherest distance travelled. 6. Host a real food festival, where all enterants must host an open table for lunch. All ingredients must be real, no powders, gels, premixes ext. 7. Have a real beer company to sponsor/ sell beers to competitors. 8. Local bands playing unplugged. 9.ext.
  16. Okay here is an answer to all of this: ON-ONE inbred. Frame goes for UK Pound 116, convert that out and it is less than R3k. You have a choice in terms of drop outs The frame is steel (the ScandAL is ALU) The tyre clearance is massive (2.4 inch) The angles are slack (or a 120mm travel shock) and steeper for the 100mm travl There are pannier mounts. The disc brake mounts are on the inside of the rear triangle. The 2013 model has cable mounts for continual cable casings. The ON-ONE FAT BIke is also interesting (but a bit out of the box for our market)

there are many minimalist shoes available. New balance does a good one, Inov-8 also. Also consider vivobarefoot and fivefingers. Remember that you will have to change your running style as well. You will take shorter strides, run more up-right. Also you will run less on your heels, more of a gliding or "Sliding" of your feet across the ground.
  19. Just as the Rand started a short run of stability after the strikes, EISHKOM decided to ask for an increase of electricity tarrifs and "oops we did it again" the rand goes into a freefall. IS there a conspiracy to get the rand to 10 to the US$1 by Christmas?
  20. a miracle that there are any results at all........
  21. At this stage anything platinum comes with a free wildcat strike.
  22. I am worried at the statement "to help kids perform at their best". Ar we as parents become so competitive that we want this type of marketing? Kids should be playing and having fun. There only nutritional suppliment should be REAL FOOD supplimented occasionally by JUNK FOOD and sweets. REAL FOOD can be grown in real earth. Just add seeds and water, and wola food grows. Unfortunately, for protein an animal must die, but the local butcher can get the end product (meat) to you. Real Food does not come in packets, powders, gels, sachettes and tins. Real Food © also requires some effort in preparation and can be mixed with real herbs and real spices for added appeal. For a kid to perform at his best he needs safe roads, open fields, lots of friends and a bit of love and guidance. This you cannot buy, but can create by becoming involved in your community.
  23. If LA had decided to contest the USADA report then the findings would be "off limits" until the end of the trial. He could have asked for the court case to be in camera and thus he could have kept a lid on it. By not contesting the report LA is aknowledging that the report is an accurate reflection of what was happening. In all intent and purpose he admits guilt.
  24. Eventually plucked up the courage and ordered an On-one whippet (due 9 November) at the amazing discouted price of *** pounds sterling. Added some other stuff to the bundle, now awaiting delivery and the customs shock. Hoping to have a full carbon rig for under 20k after all the hidden costs.
  25. for someone who is innocent, that is very suspicious
