  1. Oh, and just by the way.... the group this morning managed to raise R700 towards FORA's building project!! Your generosity is overwhelming! thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have no doubt they'll put it to good use
  2. You're right Wayne.. I was thoroughly enjoying the company. On my way back I was wondering if everyone was going to maintain their sense of humour for the whole ride..... (you know.... knowing what was in store ) I will definitely try to hook up with you guys again on another one of your outings
  3. It was super cool meeting all of you guys and girls! I was really sorry that I couldn't do the whole ride. I hope my family treated you well on your return Until next time
  4. If it's a 6h30 start, I might be able to join you guys, but just for a bit. I'll have to turn around at about 7h45 wherever we happen to be.... need to be back in Joburg early for my child's dance competition
  5. One of the ladies that did the last ride approached me and said that the GPS co-ords were "spot on"......... now I know very little about GPS (I'm still from the mapbook era), so not sure why it would be spot on for some and not others?
  6. The reason I did that was to get everyone from the N1 onto Hendrik Potgieter, so if you live in Fourways (for example) and were taking the N1, you'd have to first head South to get off at 14th.... if that makes any sense. Obviously there are loads of other ways to get there..... if you know the area
  7. eerrrmmm SIR... I couldn't help but notice that there are some peeps that said they'd be there who aren't included on your list (yet) ;-)
  8. Not at the moment.... but it's on the cards
  9. Thug, you're spot on , but since some of these nice people are first timers to 'the nek' and I don't want to put them completely off visiting..... I thought I'd introduce the profile one slope at a time
  10. From our spot it's roughly 28kays all the way to the top.... my avatar is the view from the top
  11. it's not as bad as it looks... the real climb at the end is only about 3kms..... the rest of the way is quite gradual having said that, I am in granny for about the first 2/3's of the climb
  12. Apparently the views are worthwhile....
  13. ....and you're aware of the climb?....... or should I post a profile
  14. you know how to choose them!! I think I would've opted for something a little easier.... personally anyway, my advice is simple: Day 1 Get on your bike and pedal When you can't pedal anymore get off your bike and push When you've recovered enough get back on your bike and pedal some more repeat steps 1-3 until you finish lie in the shade and drink beer Day 2 Repeat above steps
  15. I have an entry if anyone wants it.. just not sure if the organisers will do a substitution so late
  16. Sadly I can't make the 27th, but next time - for sure!!!
  17. I'll be doing my first one - I'm also scared
  18. RL, I had exactly the same problem with my MTB about 3 weeks ago. Also only in the 2 lowest gears and also only under pressure.. i.e. riding up a hill. I had the cables and gears checked out as my chain and cassette are fairly new. Then out on a ride my chain snapped... it appears that their was one dodgy link that was 'pulling apart'. Anyhow, 1 new chain later and all of the jumping has stopped. I would suggest checking every link and removing the offending one
  19. As promised, I have created a FaceBook page with more information on parking at the venue. I will post updates to this page as and when things develop For more info and regular updates, please 'Like" the following page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Base2Breedts/463942260313264
  20. Never fear Squier, I'm sure there'll be more
  21. Hi All, Thank you so much for attending. By all accounts it seems everyone had a good time. As always happens I ended up doing a group ride 'solo' I turned back just to check on someone that was left behind earlier on... and just as well as she had continued straight along the tar road on her way to Rustenburg anyway, in the process I lost the group, but thoroughly enjoyed the ride anyway... it was a good re-introduction to my bike after a little lay-off. Apologies for being anti-social and rushing off, but my son had to get to Cross Country practice Thanks all for the VERY GENEROUS donations of pet food (and cash) which will be delivered to Friends of Rescued Animals. Your contributions are going to make a big impact on an organisation that relies on the generosity of people like you THANK YOU! Also a very big thank you to IanJ who very kindly offered to make the delivery of donations to FORA. I have already mentioned to a few that the venue will open shortly as a parking facility for those that are interested... watch this space for details
