  1. SS - in the dark....... nice
  2. The best way to get up that climb is in the dark
  3. hmmm.... maybe I should organize something
  4. I did this kind of ride with a couple of friends to welcome the new year in this year. We left Hekpoort a little after 3am to be at the top of Breedts Nek and see the sunrise from there. We were all very sleepy on our way back because we didn't manage to sleep much the night before, but it's still right up there as one of my best experiences ever
  5. I see you and I finished 8 seconds apart on day 1 Fanie - sorry I didn't say hi
  6. mulmi, it was this past weekend
  7. Thanks skubarra! and well done to you! I also wore my brake pads out completely and also had to stop on the descents to give my forearms a break! Ouch - I saw a helicopter circling on day 2 to airlift someone out of the valley
  8. I've done both. Langs Baviaans was way tougher IMO. But that same year we also had icy cold conditions to contend with.
  9. Well done Fanie! I have a renewed respect for anyone who does this event! I was also in the saddle for 6 hours on the first day and 6 hours + on day 2 That climbing on day 2 was like nothing I've ever experienced in my life... and I was really scared going down into The Hell on day 1. My fear of heights got the better of me. I'm not sure if I'll do this again
  10. Thanks! It was the first 94.7 that I've missed in 8 years, but worth the change of scenery. I would highly recommend TransBaviaans
  11. - re the start time... I think it's intentional so that even the front runners have to do some of it in the dark. A really worthwhile event. Hell and Back - it was what I imagine it must be like going to Hell & Back. Tough, very hot and unforgiving.
  12. It is miles and miles of district road. The challenge is not in the terrain though, it's in completing the distance with mental faculties intact.
  13. Yep, my team is ready and waiting. Seems it's becoming more popular each year. I still don't think that entries will fill up that quickly though
  14. So how did it go Fanie? I prepared myself for the worst.... and it was tougher than that
  15. So what did you guys think of the coverage?
  16. I once helped a guy out at a race with my spare tube. I was hesitant because I would've come unstuck had I punctured in the middle of the bundus. Be that as it may, I parted with my tube (he had already used his own spare). He came racing past me and must've finished the event a good hour before me, but when I crossed the finish line, the dude was there waiting for me to return the tube. Although unexpected, I thought it was pretty cool of him
  17. Yeah, I was also going to suggest that getting TO Northern Farm might be a real challenge with 94.7 on the go. Good luck with that! Enjoy whatever riding you end up doing!
  18. Geez, that's a relief... I was staring at that picture and squinting every which way to check if someone could really look THAT different with a moustache It's been too long my old buddy
  19. Nope, I have Hell & Back next weekend. I was resting
  20. How frustrating, especially for the guys that were in it to win it. Bad luck Jules and well done despite it!
  21. Must be all that time that he spends 'working from home' - on his bike it seems
  22. Hey Bobster, long time! She has my vote. Well done proud mom
  23. And you? did you ride?
