  1. Anyone know if there have been any more incidents since the original post, or have the locals settled down?
  2. 99 Days to go! not that I'm counting or anything ;-)
  3. Yes
  4. I thought I saw you, in a biggish group... I was on my way back already when you lot passed me. I was riding there solo yesterday, fortunately I was back before this dude was on the road. I would seriously recommend that you report him to the Hekpoort Police before he runs one of us over
  5. Hope you and your bike are ok CF... I had a similar experience when I fell on the spruit a couple of years back. I managed to break a couple of ribs. Sitting in the grass on the side of the trail, loads of riders passed me and shouted "are you ok?" but were gone before I had time to even respond. I started pushing my bike back home before a group of riders passed me... 2 guys in the group realised that something was wrong and turned around to assist me back to the main road where my husband could fetch me
  6. Not cool. I ride on the Nooitgedacht/Magalies/Hekpoort roads by myself very often. This incident is pretty scary...... but having said that, I've used these roads (often back roads and quiet ones if I'm exploring) for the last 5 years without incident. I wish this poor lady a speedy recovery from this traumatic experience
  7. ok, not half as impressive as some of these posts, but I was quite happy to just finish Panorama Tour and my first Transbaviaans
  8. Is this still happening? I see no one has posted for a couple of days....
  9. Just so we're clear on a few of things: I'm a woman and I'm white (although with my skin tone this point could be up for debate, I don't own MTN kit and I started way back from R There was however a woman who was riding behind me on the back to the car, who felt the urge to shout "HOLD YOUR LINE"...... on Maxwell drive... I kid you not. I was riding in a perfectly straight line, next to another rider, chatting about the race when I heard her squeal from behind. I was flabbergasted. My instant reaction was to say in an equally loud voice "You have to be kidding me?! did you just tell me to hold my line?!" She overtook me on the left and said something else which I couldn't make out, so I wished her well on her race to the parking lot. shame, she obviously didn't get to say it in the bunch so just needed to let it out. I was the unlucky recipient.
  10. This is such sad news. Strength to Ilma and the family at this time. I will never forget the support that Mark gave Barry & I when we rode Cradlequest. From giving me directions on the morning to going right out of his way to be there and cheer us over the line... we even stopped midway during stage 1 for a chat He was such a supportive and proud dad and although I've never met Kurt, I could list a lot of his achievements! Sorry that we didn't get that Breedts Nek ride in that we joked about on FaceBook this past weekend, but the rides I did have with you were always fun. To the friends that I am aware of that were close to him; Di, Hardus and Barry.. I hope you find comfort. Mark, you will be missed in the cycling community - RIP
  11. Sounds like a good plan Joe. James should be easily distracted with the hoards of pretty young followers he has... we just invite some of them around on the same day
  12. So when do we see it on TV? or have we missed it already?

    ALASKA

Wow!!! stunning pics, thanks for sharing! B)
  14. Shame, you poor dear... a whole week of cycling in Malawi on loaned Pinarellos? Glad you had some fun whilst raising some bucks for a worthy cause. My best cycling week to date has to be 2010 Sani2C, it was just such fun from the time we left Joburg until our return. Best cycling weekend was just a few short weeks ago at Transbaviaans. I love cycling road trips with my buddies
  15. It is a seriously good looking machine! but maybe you should consider changing your hub name now to NotsoFeltCrazyanymore
  16. Niiiice.... I just have to wonder though, why woman specific bikes always have to be pink?
  17. Well done to those that got in. This ride is an experience of a lifetime. Sadly, I didn't even try to enter for next year... but I'm fortunate enough to have ridden the last 3. Hopefully the new date will bring better weather
  18. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/21097-broken-bridge-on-spruit/page__hl__bridge+on+spruit found the link, it appears Durtbreff was going to speak to someone, don't know if he ever did...
  19. It doesn't cost a fortune but don't underestimate what it can cost.... Danger Dassie and a friend put in a lot of time and effort to fix one of the bridges at the bottom of Delta Park a couple of years back. I volunteered to buy the materials thinking that it couldn't cost more than a couple of hundred rand, little did I know that the proper materials to cover a 1.5m2 section of bridge would cost close to R800. Obviously DD did an excellent job because it's held up for 2 years now I will happily get involved in this initiative. I can offer some elbow grease and/or a small donation towards materials? I can't remember if we needed/got permission but there was a thread.. I'll try to find a link Let me know when/where
  20. hey zuludog, maybe a bit more info would get you a better response. How often do you want to ride? what times, mornings/afternoons? what sort of speed? beginner rider or advanced? There are loads of hubbers that ride the spruit regularly, I'm sure you'll find someone suitable
  21. Yes I have' date=' many times before. I know dogs, I'm not scared of them, and it doesn't take much to see if a certain agressive dog will bite or not... Most dogs will run if you stop and attack them. Some won't but that's where I use pepperspray and my judgement... Dogs are very sensitive, if you're confident while atacking or chasing them away, they'll know... Some dogs won't buldge and that's where you have to get off your bike and keep your bike between the dog and yourself - pepperspray immediately sends any dog in the opposite direction... [/quote'] I don't think I'm brave enough to try this. When I've been chased by dogs I've just ridden as fast as I can to get away and been fortunate so far... confronting a Jack Russel is one thing, confronting a Doberman a different story
  22. To all of you that want to stop and confront the dog....... have you ever tested this theory? just wondering
  23. Hey! I'm no sissy...
  24. You do know that it's a matter of time before some female hubber points out that not all girls are sissys? In fact, I know some girls who will ride the scary stuff better and/or faster that some guys (myself excluded ). Just a thought...
