  1. Thanks, same ones that I could recall.
  2. It seems from what info there is that both attacks in this area took place in the early hours of the morning when it is still dark?? Incidents such as these need to be made public for the cycling community, but it would help if the reports are more specific, i.e. time and more detailed description of exact place.
  3. I can recall two incidents on the upper Bloemendaler one where they picked the wrong cyclist and came off second best, and another where five cyclists found an obvious trap set up.
  4. Gotta agree with you! The debate on Clipless vs Flats will go on forever, it's really down to what works for you. Set your clipless up properly and clipping out quickly is not a problem. Pretty pricey at R999.00 as well, but would like to hear if anybody other than Linus van Onselen has any experience with these pedals.
  5. Saw this article in My Broadband last night. Anybody know or have any experience of these pedals?? https://mybroadband.co.za/news/gadgets/216840-how-not-to-fall-on-your-face-when-cycling-with-cleats.html
  6. Here is the link to the Slowcoach Group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/339245799519995/?ref=bookmarks We have all types and all shapes young and old great bunch if you are just starting out!
  7. Some pics to give you a better idea!
  8. Get some soft plastic tubing from local hardware store, or pet shop that supplies tubing for fish tanks. If you don't want to remove cables, first slit tube in it's length and feed it into the frame over the cable, taping it with insulation tape every 100mm or so. Works perfectly. Had the same problem with my Trance, nearly drove me crazy.
  9. Think you reading the winds speed in knots not km/hr my friend.
  10. Notice that Bloemendal/Bspot missing from your list. Have renamed this place as Doringdal! Rode there yesterday and plenty thorns!!!
  11. 100%!! My rides in January alone would have cost me R280.00 if I had to buy day passes. Also the membership fees go towards developing and maintaining the trails but as I understand it the bulk of the day permits goes to the farmer.
  12. Does allow access to Majik, but last time I was up at the Hillcrest gate there is a notice stating that Hillcrest is for members only, day permits not valid. Does not agree with the notice so its a bit confusing, Probably better to phone Nicky at the TBMTB office and confirm.
  13. To clarify the permit costs: Please note that there are day permits available for the following trails: Bloemendal - Biosport is open 8am to 5pm and weekends 8am to 1pm and at the Bike Park (Sat & Sun 07h30 – 14h00). There is one permit available: R50 for adults, R30 for under 18's. This allows access to the Bloemendal, Nitida corridor, Hillcrest, Bloemendaaler and Majik Forest. Night Ride permits sold at Biosport on the evening for R30. Protea Hotel will now be selling the R30 and R50 permits for Bloemendal. These can be bought from the staff at the reception desk and they are open 24hours / 7 days a weekHoogekraal – a payment of R60 by cash in the honesty box or a payment via SnapScan allows access to all the trails at Hoogekraal.Contermanskloof – Day permits at R40 are available at The Dairy Shed (07h30 – 17h00 Tues to Fri / 07h00 – 13h00 Sat & Sun ) give access to the Contermanskloof trails. Meerendal – Day permit wristbands at R30 are available on the entrance road just before The Crown restaurant. Alternatively, make use of honesty box if no permit seller is on duty. These day permits do not give access to the club negotiated corridors between Meerendal and Contermanskloof or the dirt road corridor between Contermanskloof and Hoogekraal. Cycling is strictly prohibited on the concrete road to the Bloemendal Restaurant. Except for arranged special events, trail running is not allowed on any of the club maintained single track (Bloemendal, Hillcrest, Bloemendaaler, Hoogekraal).
  14. Good advice this!! Bumped into the Slowcoach crowd last week at Contermans, good crowd and ideal for a beginner look them up on Facebook as suggested.
  15. Quite keen on a trip to the Cederberg to do some MTB trails, but is a wildcard necessary. Camped at Driehoek before but had to buy day permits to go off the farm area, fairly expensive? Sandrif looked good as well but again, permits? Have done Beaverlac a few times so want something different this year. Raydek - Have you got a link to the camping sites at Eselfontein contact number maybe? This is another option for us looking March/April/May out of season lucky pensioners we re so we can skip the busy seasons!!
  16. As far as I know the "Freeway" only starts at the Koeburg interchange and there are signs posted at the bridge. From there into town is not highway, hence the reduction on speed limit as well. Be interesting to get some opinion on this. Also rode the cycle track into town on Sunday Morning and was shocked by the amount of "homeless" people occupying this area. Does not feel safe riding that area at all as incidents prove!
  17. Bike is easy to check, get LBS to do this. Mind not so easy! Had a frightening experience on a road bike a few years back, nearly came off at 82km/hr going down Vissershok in a howling South Easter. Serious speed wobble but managed to stay upright so definitely no crash damage. Never been comfortable on the bike since, and I used to enjoy sharp sweeping descents. No problem on the MTB though, so it's just the road bike that I am uncomfortable with. Feel as if the bike let me down!! So always tensing up going down fast downhills expecting the same thing to happen. It's all in the mind!!!
  18. Beaverlac is probably your best bet, mostly jeep track though, and lots of soft sand on Olifants river trails. You can also try contacting the owners son at Watervalle camp can't remember his name unfortunately, but their camping site is at the entrance to Porterville left at the sand road just before entering town. He is a keen MTB'er and when we were there last about six months ago was busy developing some trails.
  19. Unfortunately, there is a substitution fee of R250.00 so unless you find a kind entrant willing to donate his entry it's going to cost you R720.00 in total, or you can go for a charity entry, and the cheapest I could find was about R1700.00.
  20. Info from the CTCT office this morning: that I forwarded to a potential purchaser of my entry: Substitutions will open on the 3rd February at 1pm Current entry holder must log in and tick the box that it is available for substitution which will automatically generate a letter to authorize the substitution. They will forward this to the current entrant for signing. "Purchaser" must then log on using their own details, which means that they must register if they have not done any previous Races. You can then select current entry holders name and DOB to access the substitution. You will have to pay a substitution fee online of R250.00. So your entry is going to cost you R470.00 to purchase my entry plus R250.00 to the CTCT for the substitution. (R720.00) Point No 4 I find a bit confusing, however, they assure me that there will be full instructions on their Website on how to go about this.
  21. Yep still available at the same price I paid for it. Also like Foreozfx above waiting to hear how the substitution procedure works, nothing on the CTCT website yet?
  22. Brian, if you don't come right PM me have a ticket for sale as well
