  1. Depends on when the test before the positive took place... Lots we don't know at this time to make statements such as "it doesn't matter"
  2. Yes, but it only works in HIGH doses. Hence the point - we need to know what levels were found in his system to draw conclusions
  3. Extract from here http://coachsci.sdsu.edu/csa/vol56/rushall5.htm Probenecid is no longer used by dishonest athletes. Probenecid no longer can be used as a weapon for cheating. As soon as it became a substance on the banned drug list (believed to have been in 1987) it ceased to be used by athletes for cheating because of its very ease of detection. Most laboratories test for Probenecid itself, rather than metabolites, for it is the large amount that indicates illicit use. Small amounts, such as therapeutic doses, are of no interest to sport-drug testers because they would be ineffective for cheating purposes. Detected small amounts indicate only therapeutic use. However, even a small trace of Probenecid requires the posting of a positive banned-drug result but in all reality the amount would be useless for cheating. This is a problem that has not been addressed by the IOC Medical Committee. The size of the amount detected and the absence of any other banned substance is the way to determine between cheating and therapeutic purposes. Small traces of this banned drug indicate therapeutic use, large traces indicate cheating. Only foolish individuals would use Probenecid for cheating purposes given the testing capacities of IOC accredited laboratories around the world. The small amount detected in Australian swimmer Richard Upton's urine and the absence of any other banned substance is proof-positive that the drug was taken for therapeutic purposes rather than to distort test results (cheating). However, despite this information since Probenecid remains on the IOC banned substance list, Richard Upton was severely punished by two different Australian sports authorities even though the therapeutic use of just one day's dose by an attending physician was documented and freely admitted. The criteria for evaluating the existence of Probenecid in athletes' urine samples need to be changed to avoid unjust punishments like those that have been recently handed down in Australia. As someone said above, we need to know the quantity found in his system to come to any conclusions, but this no longer seems an obvious drug of choice for a cheat.
  4. good to know.
  5. bump. I don't swim there so can't help your survey, but would be interested to see your results
  6. Funny thing was Rosberg locked up in the same spot a number of times during the race and each time was able to make the turn... I fear he learnt a few too many tricks from Schumi.... As for Hami - I kind of agree he looked like a bit of a twat - but that is how he is, he wears he's heart on his sleave and he genuinely believes he was wronged. He will come back strong in Canada - but will need to guard against alienating ze germans in charge at merc. I only vant to hear vun click, and all.
  7. yup some people have short memories. Or have only been watcing f1 for 2 or 3 years.
  8. Classic chirp!
  9. I had a similar shortlist with the stealth Venge Expert in the lead for months. Eventually though I decided to go for the Madone 5.2 because for me its just the best mix of what I want - a little aero while still being a really smooooth ride (though not soft in the way a domane or Rubaix is). Add in nifty handling and climbing ability - and I am a sucker for the balck finish. All its begging for is some new wheels... I'm collecting mine on Saturday - cant wait.
  10. wow, that has to be the deal of the year on any continent. Anything closer to home? Anyone?
  11. Anyone know of a LBS selling the Propel with Ultegra? So far can only find the ridiculously pricy SL version?

Re the road surface etc, Malcolms standpoint is this is what guys face in Europe on a week to week basis. Sketchy crit courses are the norm. The tour is largely about bridging the gap for our local guys. The turnout was disappointing and maybe the location was a bit too isolated - with a big crowd the vibe would have been cool.
  15. Well... Whitmarsh very much inherited Merc engines so no credit there. I must say Ron bringing Honda back next year could be very interesting for Maclaren, and its much more than just nostalgia. I don't see how Merc will have been able to protect their IP on the engines from Maclaren given how the power unit has to be integrated with the rest of the car's systems, so Honda will have been able to steer their developtment direction in the optimal way based on these learnings and should really hit the ground running next year.

    Nice pics. You on tour?
  17. I don't disagree with those saying do the shorter distance first, but the question was "will the 100km be manageable", and my answer is yes. I say this as someone who did his first 94.7 years ago with 3 training rides, longest being about 40km. If he has done 60 somewhere like the cradle, he will handle 100km on the flat Emperors course... But sure, 60km will be a good intro to a race environment, the big bunches etc. But it also depends on his personality and reasons for doing the race - if he wants a challenge he should go the whole hog anddo the 100. He already knows he can do 60 - so where's the challenge in that?
  18. If you can do 60 you will manage 100 on race day - and it is a flat easy route. Just pace yourself and make use of the water points. BUT, practice changing a tube before you head out on race day.
  19. Its early days. The RB is fundamentally a very good car and was quite a bit quicker than Rosberg in the twisty middle sector. Renault are the first to acknowledge they are behind on the power unit - I don't expect them to match the Merc by the end of the season but their deficit WILL decrease. So, by mid year, assume they are a little closer in BHP, and their chassis is better, we could still see an interesting battle with different streanths suiting different circuits. I do agree on the fuel saving though - thats really not F1. Take away the fuel limit and the fuel flow rate limit and we would see some really interesting racing (though possibly also even more Merc domination)

    I fix.
  21. you said Porte and Froome will not start... Anyone know what time the real action will be today? Streaming?
  22. what also helps is using smart recording - the files are MUCH smaller = much faster downloads - and can't say I have noticed missing chunks of data since making the change.
  23. hmmm... maybe try IE then? Seriously, when I said reinstall connect, I meant the communicator plugin. maybe try that?
  24. I started having huge issues uploading from Garmin direct to strava a month or 2 back. I re-installed garmin connect Communicator etc etc but still no joy. Eventually tried uploading via google chrome instead of internet explorer and that sorted me - no more issues...
