  1. looking at her bars... she does love someone
  2. How many times have we done something really stupid. It didn't start off that way, but from this to that and before you know it, you wish you could turn back time. The part that hurts the most, was the father's words " The bike accelerated and he was calling "dad, please help me"". Those words alone, would bring the toughest father I know, to his knees. They were doing some orientation, then started the bike, maybe drove slowly with the father next to him, anyway, one thing led to another and this is the outcome. I really feel for the parents as this is a horrible shock to their system, especially as they know it was their fault. Guns don't kill people, neither do quads. My kids have both had quads from the ages of 3. They love their quads and Fabian is now 7 and never fallen off his. I was told I was stupid, rather get them a mx bike. News flash, a kid on a pee wee, at 40 km/h into a tree can also be fatal. It doesn't matter whether it's a quad, mx, bmx etc, kids need to be taught to respect what they are using, understand bad judgement and to wear protective gear as sh*t happens in any form. Windblown, if you still feel like keeping the quad, go for it. Go down to your security shop and ask the sales person for a remote and receiver that has a longish range. These are what you use to open and close automated gates. Then take the kill swith wire to the n/o pin and then a wire from the common to the bike's earth. (if you have hassles, I, or any competant workshop can do it for ouy). Connect the receiver to the bikes 12v and your done. Basically, if you see your son is in trouble, abusing the bike, panic stricken and can't close the throttle or even just riding too fast, you hit the button on the remote and the motor dies. Before you go riding, just test limit of the distance that the remote works at and keep your kids closer. Our latest quad comes with this remote already. I can even start the quad with the remote. Derrick, I hope you have a full recovery my little freind...
  3. Had a great time. Thanks Andrew/Ali/Jeff. I got kucked on from Jeff from a dizzy height. We were on one trail, and then decided to carry our bikes over to another (to watch the guys doing a drop-off - I think that's what it's called) I have never been to a bike park before and didn't know you don't do such things. The bridge, the corkscrew, the green mile ahhh, it was all fun. BB, good to hear you are a good recoverer. Jay, my friend, did you have a headache the next morning? Jay came down a relatively steep downhill and I dunno what happened next, but hit a tree head on. The tree is fine (I checked), but Jay's helmet saved his noggin and craccked right through. Nice to meet you all again, till the next one...
  4. Talking about turkeys... This woman goes into a shop and asks the owner for a turkey. He goes into the cold-room and sees it's his last one. He puts it on the scale and it comes in at 1.2 kilos. The lady asks if he hasn't got anything bigger. The owner takes the turkey back to the cold-room and returns with the same turkey. Not wanting to loose the sale, he puts it on the scale and weights it down a bit more with his thump, taking the weight to 1.5 kilos. The lady thinks for a while and then decides "I need more than that, but it will have to do, I'll take both"
  5. ****, I can't apply for a job at CL anymore, Andrew knows all the tricks
  6. Hi Rad and well done. I passed you the first time going up one of the hills... you had your head down ( i hope concentrating) and did what you had to do. Thanx for the siren when I shouted to you. Sorry I didn't slow down for a chat, but I was really trying to get a good time. You looked a lot better the second time ( I went back to ride with the wife and Frikkie on the tandem)... still hitting the siren I crapped cramped a lot in the last 10 k's or so, and I am on a 7.8kg bike. I seriously take hat of to you for riding that 40kg bike, that has the aero dynamics of a brick, for that distance and in that time (I haven't found an emoticon that does a bow)
  7. Can I come... choose me, choose me With these numbers, I might have do back-up, with spares, on a quad...mmm
  8. but if you look carefully, HR kept the saddle out of the water liquid
  9. One of the crossings on our expedition... HR showing how deeeeep it is, should anyone fall
  10. Did you know something we didn't? Now I know why you never came Eish, the system will not let me uploads 2 pics... will try later
  11. We felt a bit k*k, as we looked at The Rock and then came back to the car and you weren't there either! I had a great time, but had an automatic gearbox for the last 3 or 4 k's. The bike kept changing gears, and at the worst times as well. Pocketbikes2008-10-26 07:17:08
  12. The 94.7 was my very first race and did it in 5:15. This will be my 1 year anniversary at cycling (or trying). I did the 2008 Argus in 3:40 and the Dome 2 Dome in 4:01. What would be a realistic time to aim for at the 94.7 ? I guess/aim for a 3:25
  13. Nope, try not to do too many races otherwise my seeding just keeps improving. Will be riding one of IanJ's special long distance, hill climbing, lactic acid inducing rides. he seems like such a sweet man when you first meet him, but you know there's evil lurking? any person that does 2 laps of suikerbos soutbos, must be evil See you guys Sunday. A friend might be joining as well.
  14. no probs... wanted to see your shower
  15. cptmayhem, I agree with most of what you say. I would also kill to save my or my family's life. The problem I have is the removing of the keys. If you get taken out by a drunk, you will have a problem with all drunks, same if it was a taxi etc. I HAVE had my keys removed by a guy who wanted to sell me something that I wanted nothing to do with. As I pulled away, his way of stopping me was to remove my keys. I seriously felt that my life and vehicle were in danger and my vehicle was my only safe passage out of the area. I know this has nothing to do with this thread, but I now have a problem with people removing keys. YOu, as a person looking after their own lives, look for the fastest way out of the situation. I promise you, the fastest way out of this situation was to stop and wait or pull into a garage or turn around. If they REALLY feared for their lives, I doubt they would get closer to the danger. The odd times that I have feared for my life, trust me, I put big ground between us. My question is, would they have done the same if it was a big bloke behind the wheel? Chances are not, they would've stopped and let him go. They did it because they knew they could...
  16. Mark, I am on my 2 feet. I tried cycling yesterday (took my son to school @ 600 mtrs away), but coming back uphill was a bit sore. There is a point in the knee movement that is too painful to push. ie, if I try stand and pedal, the knee collapses - like hitting a nerve or something. I was told to stay off rather than interfere with the injury. SP, I am fine to drive. We can leave as soon as possible so that I can help sweep the track.
  17. where da pics?
  18. Eish SP, that was liiiiitle harsh Am I still picking you up tonight (still friends? )
  19. Spinnekop, you have a valid point, I agree. The thing is, I doubt you would still be alive today if you went around taking out 20 car keys a day (although it would be good for training) These guys know an investigator so they could've reported it without going that far. They did report it anyway! My point is, if you are not going to report it, back off and, as you say "here's your sign". If you are going to report it, back off and then report it. They might have a case against the woman for reckless driving, but she's got a case of theft (or whatever, for taking her keys) against them. They could come off second best out of this whole affair, even if they were initialy the innocent party. Let me get out of my glass house quick... As Scotty says, I don't know what I wouldh've done as I know I get very agro when something is done to me. I don't have the guts to tell someone they are littering, when I see it, but then again my life is not in danger when someone litters...
  20. ...and OxWagen put the cringe in Krrr
  21. I spoke to Fairlands police station ( I like facts before I post) 011 478-9413, and they said Veltevreden Park doesn't fall under them, but Honeydew. I live in Bromhof, Randburg and Linden police stations are closer to me, but I fall under Honeydew. It's not always the closer police station...
  22. We just need a few more woman for Hog
  23. I agree with you comment, on us making decisions without hearing the other side. Now that we've heard the other side, one of the two parties aren't being truthful. Which one is it? On the "sticking up for our own kind", read through all the pages. A lot of us have been abused by our own kind. The part that I don't understand is, we do a hub ride from Mercedes in Centurian, blocked most the road where we were, stopped traffic at robots (thanks marshals), all this on a busy Saturday morning, and there was only one small incident. We were thanking the cars, they were waving back... I think it's all about patience and the attitude you put out.
