  1. In lap racing you don't get to choose if you finish or not - if you're too far behind you get pulled off. Almost all forms of bike racing have time limits and I suspect the time limits on lap racing are much tighter than stage racing.
  2. Only 65 of 193 elite male riders finished (just over 60% drop out rate). The high drop out rate is because of the lap racing format.
  3. This is kind of sad. If you were less opinionated and judgmental cycling would be a lot more pleasant. So would you.
  4. That is a pretty standard story at my shop ???? Bikefitting has come a long way since the days of Lemond's 0.883% of inseam calculation. 3D motion detecting dynamic fitting systems, dual 3D power meter based pedaling analysis, saddle pressure mapping and a variety of other high tech methods are now the norm.
  5. No. Just no. The only place that should hurt after 5 hours is your legs - and that is only if you go hard enough to make them hurt. This "cycling IS pain" myth needs to die. There is sufficient knowledge, experience, technology, hardware and software in modern bike fitting to solve the vast majority of problems. Try it - you'll love cycling even more when it doesn't hurt you.
  6. 100% with you. Apart from some kind of power surge these things should be designed to absorb the (relatively) puny power that humans make!
  7. Ahh good old Tacx and their replace not repair policy. Good luck with the Belgian replacement unit! I use ERG mode almost exclusively for training and have smashed bajillions of watts through it (including ramp tests, VO2 etc) without issue (that said I do have the Elite Direto rated for 2,000w so I think I'm pretty safe).
  8. Bikefits are hugely individual things and without knowing your body dimensions, flexibility, power, type of riding, injuries etc there is little to no way anyone can give meaningful advice. Like John says be wary of "fit by numbers" style fitters* - it probably works for the majority of riders but anyone who isn't average/normal will have issues. *this is not aimed at ErgoFit - just a general comment. Edit: One small bit of advice though - if they have made significant changes to your hand position it may take a few rides for your body to adjust. Give it another 4 or 5 rides to establish a baseline then give the guys at ErgoFit some feedback and address the issues during your follow up session.
  9. Only people with a death wish ride rigid on gnar!
  10. New bikes also open the door for new hybrid frankenbikes.... I found an old Niner Air9 RDO frame in the shop the other day and plan on turning it into The Gravelator. Rigid flat bar mtb with on/off tyres designed to eat up tar as well as the many many many (did I mention many?) gravel paths here in Denmark.
  11. That is the law of not breaking....the MTB will do the duties of all bikes. Some well , some average and some downright shitty. I starting to think we've got this thread all wrong. Nirvana is one bike for each discipline not one bike for all disciplines. Or at the very least 5 bikes for all disciplines. That is absolute minimum on my opinion. 1 x Track, 1 x TT, 1 x Gravelroad and 1 x Duallie and 1 x Beaten up commuter (that last one is probably a Euro thing though - 4 for the saffers). And an SSer, a fixed for road, and and and ????
  12. Nobody wants ONE bike to cover all genres cos then we'd end up with just ONE bike and who wants that? N+1 or 2 or 3 is the only way ???? That said maybe one bike can multitask. For instance I don't plan on racing road next year so the 3T Exploro RaceMax that I've ordered will get an extra set of wheels with slicks on. One bike for road and gravel..... Thaaaat said I have just been given the Colnago brand so methinks a V3RS or C64 will be my N+1 when the 12spd Ultegra groups arrive in Spring 2022* *No - I don't care that I'm putting a Japanese groupset on an Italian legend.
  13. Exactly this. Check bra like your gravel bike can't handle my gnar. It probably won't win any time trials either but it is great for putting a smile on your face with your buddies.
  14. The correct spelling is MEGAskill.
  15. Everybody has to have something to hate on. Keeps us ironic. And hypocritical. Plus I didn't really mean it. To be honest it probably takes at least a month for a Satan bike to turn you into a tik addict.
  16. Cycle ball is also a ridiculously skilled and weird sport... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycle_ball#:~:text=Cycle-ball%2C also known as,except when defending the goal.
  17. Eldron - ground breaking gravel pioneer. A man ahead of his time. He rode wagonwheels long before they were "normal". He put drop bars on mtbs long before the word "gravel" was whispered quietly in craft beer establishments by men with plaid shirts and beards. What a guy - the quintessential I told you so trump card. Who really cars though? Nobody should. Ride your bike on wooden boards, tarmac, gravel, air or dirt and enjoy it. Just don't buy an ebike though - those are Satan's bicycles and will make you a homeless tik addict in 16 days.
  18. I just had a quick look and there are multiple threads on F1, cricket, rugby, veganism and a host of other NCR stuff. What rights are people moaning about? You can happily post NCR stuff. Your human rights are not being trampled on. It seems the only rights being trampled on are your rights to be a knob.
  19. If I found a company who's shoes added 250w to my power I would also buy their helmet, socks, glasses, chamois cream, bar tape, saddle and valve inserts. That's like 2kw extra. Step aside Pipo the TT stripes are mine!
  20. Google "QAnon" - you'll find tons of friends there.
  21. I think thehub is a better place today than "the before time". There used to be open and unmoderated homophobia, misogyny, soft porn (along with weird and wonderful descriptions men would offer up on what they would like to do to the women in the soft porn pics) and a variety of other anti social/exclusive behaviours. If this is thehub you miss then you should probably do some introspection. There was also a stronger sense of community but that was always going to disappear as thehub got bigger and less personal. I kinda miss the old boys club where I recognised a few names/people but it was always a dinosaur waiting to die.
  22. I was more bothered by the fact that he was testing the water/volatile base rather than the actual lubricant of the dry lubes. I'm guessing Squirt would have smashed the fling test out of the park if he had let it dry....
  23. Sure. So is Epic, CTCT, SSWC and Parkrun... Just seems silly to me to pay to do their event then pay to market their product. On your skin. Maybe it is just me but tattoos should be special, unique etc. Copy'n'Paste ink is a wasted opportunity.
  24. Art is, of course, subjective. I love good ink and by good I mean unique, interesting, attractive etc. Popping an IM, Quiksilver, Cape Epic logo on your body is the equivalent of printing the logo then framing it and calling it art. My opinion of course....
  25. We all do things for all sorts of reasons but like I said - have some fun with it - stylise it - make it your own. Branding yourself with corporate logos is just silly in my opinion. It's bad enough that we pay a penalty for buying "brand names" but to pay good money to advertise on your own body breaks some internal rule of mine...
