The harley thing for me is two fold. 1) Their bikes don't really appeal to me. Not sure, what exactly, but it's just not there. I understand some of their machines are eye wateringly expensive. but like with all things money does not equal taste or class. also the "ac/dc on the hifi, for everyone to hear is also a bit stale... 2) The riding in formation, holding up traffic like they are some kind of guv'ment convoy is what really irritates the crap out of me. Ok so it's a little more than 2. Thanks, I do feel better now.

Been a while since I rode anywhere worthy of posting. Thaba yesterday. This place really brings some perspective to one's technical riding ability. Specifically short steep ups. Shortly after this, took a stab at the XCO track, and ended up eating some boulders on the Rock garden (forest more like it). Called it a day after that.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this. Started too fast, luckily I could hook up to a group with a good steady pace, basically rode in this group till vrekpoort. Ran out of legs going up there, used the excuse of a nature break to get the HR down and finish the rest of the hill. Chilled till Hospital hill, which in my mind was a lot worse than it ended up being. All in a well organised event, no issues with vehicles or other riders. Aimed to finish in 4h ended up with a 3:57. beers at the finish was great! Roll on Argus!

I have a full schedule of socialising with mates lined up. On the eve of the "race" we are staying with a friend up the road from the start. Quick roll down, but the hill back up after the ride will be a challenge. then it's more socialising before heading back to JHB on tuesday. May drive out to Her_anus on monday to visit some exiles there.

Internationally, the market for these things are huge. I perceive the people to spend more money on their winter paincaves due to the amount of time they spend there due to adverse weather. Edit: we are blessed with climate, you can go for a mid-day afternoon ride in winter that is still very pleasant. Indoor only reserved for rain days and weekday time-restricted individuals.
