  1. Have you losened the brake mounting, spun the wheel and pulled the brake, then re-tightened the mounting (while holding the brake lever down) to align the callipers (and pads) properly to the disc?
  2. I have a Tachyon XC HD. Virtually indestructable, can take video or time lapse photo (1 every 2 seconds) and is water proof to 30m. Only down side is it doesn't have viewing a screen and I'm not sure how many places in SA stock them - I got mine from the USA. Footage is great as are the photos. Mine has been through 2 Sani's and contless days in the pool / sea with kids etc....Check out their website: http://www.tachyoninc.com/index.html they sell for approx US$100. http://www.tachyoninc.com/images/TitleMicroHDup.png
  3. Classic! I though that type of thing only happened in dodgy pool table dens!!!
  4. Fish Eagle - there are still spots available for the Berg & Bush Great Trek - we got in on Tuesday (19/6/2012)

  6. Just spoke to Johan who runns the course, it's generaly done on the last weekend of the month and he seems pretty booked up. The course covers everything except shock servicing and wheel building, otherwise you'll strip and rebuild your bike.
  7. Take a look at this website, they have quite a few machine reviews: http://www.coffeegeek.com/
  8. Has anyone been on the Yellow Saddle Bike Mechanic Course and can you give feedback? I want to start servicing my own bike and this looks like the only course of it's kind in Jo'burg.
  9. Thanks all for your input. I'm going to look at keeping the 575 and start building a 29'er - will be a nice little project to have and to learn more about how all the parts fit together.
  10. Hmm good point, certainly worth investigating.
  11. That's what I'm worried about. My 575 is in mint condition. Only problem is I don't have the cash to have both.
  12. I'm fairly fit and will be 40 by the end of the year. The only event of note that I do is Sani2C, otherwise it's mostly short 60km odd races. The 29er FS idea also keeps popping up??????
  13. I currently have a 2009 Yeti 575 in good condition and I'm thinking of trading it in on a 29'er Hard Tail. Just not 100% sure on which make but the PYGA Zero29 is looking like a good option. What do you guys who are 'in the know' think?
  14. Sorry mate, already have Natalie in my tent, she's also on the front of our tandem!!
  15. Thanks all. OK, so it seems that the cable housing is more of an issue than the cable itself. Keep the housing clean and cable should be OK. I've also read that lubing the cable with a wax based chain lube also helps - haven't tried it yet myself.
  16. Why is it that every time a bike goes for a service the gear cables have to be replaced? Do cables stretch that much or is it just LBS BS???? As a kid I replaced (brake and gear) cables every 2-3 years.
  17. 2 minute gap also applies for Sani, although I'm not sure if it's enforced on the route????? The only timing device I've ever seen is at the end of each day. But they may have timing mats along the way!
  18. I agree - very important!!!!!!
  19. If you can through Riervlei comfortably you'll be fine, Sani is not too technical. Worry more about the hills on D2.
  20. You can book a driver to take your car down, otherwise you need a mate to take it for you. Race organizers will only transport your box between the overnight stops.
  21. Done 2 Sani's and never needed a spoke, besides do you know how to fit one on the trail? If one goes just twist it around the one next to it and book you bike in for a service at the over night stop.
  22. We stayed here two yrs ago, nice spot, 5-6 km outside U-berg. Give em a call: http://www.sa-venues.com/visit/rockymountainlodge/
  23. Just wanted to get the general view on which lubes are preferred. Wax or Oil based? I have used both and wax certainly keeps my chain cleaner but is a hassle if the trail is a bit wet. Also not so fond on the whole 'drying time' after applying it. What are your thoughts?
  24. Not sure on the best prices but check out Giro as well. They are from the same company just slightly different shapes - so try both to get the best fit. Quality is the same.
  25. Evidently now that the tent village only moves 2-3 times and the route is a loop of the local area the costs dropped quite a bit because there is no re-location every day.
