  1. You are actually correct regarding the bling gold lasting longer because it is harder .That gold color is a titanium nitride coating ( the same stuff they use on drillbits ) that is very hard and therefore lasts longer .
  2. Yip , total anarchy ! If the power ever had to go off completely, it would be one of the worst things that could ever happen to our country. There would literally be thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people killed . No running water , no police to call , no emergency services , traffic will obviously come to a stand still ; it's actually too frightening to think about . Lets hope it never comes to that !
  3. I did try and read some of the link you posted but your links are sometimes a bit long and tedious to go through - sorry !This one I did read most of , unfortunately it was filled with too many “may” , “might”, “can” and other vagueness to take seriously . I agree with you though that increasing your animal based food intake too much can make you fat . That however I don’t think is the problem we have in SA ? Here I think it is a bit more of increasing your intake of everything that is the problem ?! Plus I have to ad that the link you posted actually states that “ proteins derived from eggs or milk products was unrelated to global or abdominal obesity “ so I was not sure what your point was with the link ?
  4. I'm sorry , but I still don't see the connection between eating animal based foods and obesity ? Of course eating too much meat is bad for you ( in more than just an obesity way ) , but so is eating too much of anything. Calories in minus calories burned equals fat ? Heck I am sure you can die from drinking too much water ?? I am sure that what you said regarding people's diets changing when they start earning more money to eating more animal based foods is true but I think that has got more to do with the taste of the food than the social status ? ( a loaf of bread isn't exactly as tasty as a T-bone steak ) . But how you then get the connection that because they eat animal based foods and therefore get obese - there I don't agree . They might eat too much animal based foods along with their too much veggies and too much coke and therefore they are fat , but that's hardly the animal based foods fault now is it ?
  5. May I ask why you make the connection with obesity and animal based foods ? I mentioned earlier that I wasn't sure why we have an obesity problem in SA , but I think it is more linked to an excessive carb diet and too much sugar ??
  6. Yea , sorry , my example is a bit extreme . In my mind it didn't sound so crude until I reread it now . But I think you get my point regarding people enforcing their opinions/ways . I don't think people pop in here with the intention of just giving someone a piece of their mind ? Mostly people have different opinions regarding things like vegan diets , religion , gun control , politics etc and they then debate that with people that have a different opinion to theirs . Usually we just agree to disagree , but sometimes you actually learn something.
  7. You are 100% correct - we can all try and do a little something to leave the planet a better place when we exit than when we entered . Unfortunately it's not always possible. I certainly do not have a problem with anyone doing whatever they want in their own house/lives .The only beef ( I couldn't help myself there ) I have with vegans ( and for that matter religious people and anybody else ) is if they become militant and try and enforce their ways or believes on me . If I am sitting in a restaurant enjoying my steak and some hipster with a man bun millennial comes and spits on my steak and calls me a murderer , well , I am going to react to that - and it might not be in a very civil way .
  8. I don’t think anybody here disputes the fact that living on a mostly high fat deep fried processed food diet is bad for you ?! Everything in moderation of course. I don’t wanna answer for Patch here , but seeing that he was quoting me in his question I will elaborate on my statement once again ; We live in a world where a big part of the population are struggling to find a means to have a healthy meal . Here in SA I think our problem is more an obesity problem ( I don’t have the facts , but can speculate it’s too much carbs ? ) and in other parts of the world it’s the opposite- famine . But almost all of the problems are because of economics . It’s actually *** expensive to eat healthy in 3rd world countries . So , until healthy food is within reach of the masses ( which unfortunately I don’t think will ever happen ) I stand by what I said : to be vegan by choice is very much a 1st world thing .
  9. If you read my statement again , you will see that I said going vegan by "choice " is very much a 1st world thing ! Yes there are a lot of countries where people follow a vegan diet , but it is mostly out of necessity . Same thing here in South Africa ; people eat what is readily available and affordable !! It is very easy when you live in a first world country to loose perspective of what really goes on in the 3rd world countries . Even in Hindu countries like India where people try and not kill animals for religious reasons they only have around a 30% vegetarian ( never mind vegan ) population- and they are way more motivated to not eat meat than your typical Westerner . https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-43581122 I suppose in a way it's the same as people that wants everything "organic" . It all sounds very romantic and great , but it is a bit naive to think the whole world can do that . There are just too many people in the world that has to be fed for very little money .
  10. If you read my statement again , you will see that my point was not about individual people ( including myself ) but more "for the masses " . I might have the means to go and shop for the latest nice spice and fresh veggies , but 80% of our country might not ?
  11. Vegan by choice is very much a first world thing . In most of South Africa ( excluding our major cities ) and countries like us you will unfortunately have a tough time eating out or even making your own meal ( decent tasty meal that's not repetitive every day ) and stay true vegan . To get the correct amount of protein and nutrients from your meal on the budget that most South Africans live on is currently not possible on a strict vegan diet . It's a simple scale of economics ; the fewer demand there is for a certain food , the more it will cost to produce/supply . So if one day more and more people become vegan ,and demand picks up , more people will produce for that demand and more restaurants and shops will cater for a vegan lifestyle - which will make it more accessible and affordable . But we are a very very long way from there , and with our economy as it is , probably will never get there ? Plus , as Gen mentioned earlier , food is not just consumed for its nutrition . Taste is a massive factor determining what you eat , and sorry for the vegans , there is no way you will be able to match or even get close to the taste of "normal" food for the masses with vegan alternatives .
  12. Unfortunately with 5 more years of this I think our economy would have tanked so much that there won’t be any more electricity users left ? We have 2 x 200 kVA gen’s running on the farm to keep all the pumps and cool rooms going when eksdom loadsheds. Running at 3/4 load they burn roughly R 2 200 worth of diesel every flippen hour . That’s almost R 10 000 a day !! ( at the current 4 and a half hour load shedding per day ) How do you budget for this ???
  13. Fantastic initiative of the organizers to have a separate ladies race. The girls deserve the exposure they are getting ! I hope other stage races follow suit.
  14. Also really enjoyed the event. I think it’s one of the most underrated Mtb stage races in SA. Those bush tunnels are flippen awesome Edit spelling ( autocorrect and Afrikaans ????j
  15. So both of our SA ladies that entered the u/23 race have had to withdraw from the race because of injuries now . Danielle Strydom fell at Sabie Classic 2 weeks ago and damaged her knee , and now yesterday Bianca Haw fell in practice on the track and a stick penetrated her calve muscle . Crap !! It's so seldom that our local riders have the opportunity to compete in World Cups without having to spend a Guptillion bucks to get there so really not lekker when they have the opportunity and then gets injured just before the race .
  16. Entries are only closing tomorrow , so batches etc will probably only be out after that ?
  17. So , busy packing and the nerves are starting. Didn’t lose the 2 kilos I said I would three months ago ( in fact picked up 1 ) . I am really looking forward to the event , even though I know it’s gonna be a tough 3 days of climbing . Is there anyone close to Mankele that can give us a weather update/prediction please .
  18. I also think this is a great concept . Strange though that the organizers choose not to sanction an event that is not really a " bring the whole family ride"and that's quite technical , as that excludes anyone that has a racing license from entering the event ? So you have an event that is aimed mostly at people with above average Mtb skills , and then have it so the top racing snakes from juniors up cannot partake ???
  19. Can anyone thats close to the venue give us a weather / route update please ? Traveling from Potch to the race tomorrow , and just wanna know more or less how to dress .
  20. Shot , thanks for clearing that up. I hope you can understand though how that might cause some confusion amongst the general cycling population ( or maybe I am just more dof than most ). Edit : spelling
  21. I understand what you mean regarding the life cycle of a frame design regarding costs etc. And I actually like the Vipa design and am a HUGE patriot and love to support local guys. I do wonder though ( and I guys that's why a lot of guys are coming across as hating here ) - why call it a Vipa TWO ???? If they had rolled out the Vipa in new colors nobody would have whara whara' about it that much , but calling your product 2.0 in the series there should be some new things happening surely ?
  22. Looks like the perfect stage race bike . But no small ?
  23. Unbelievable but true ; those juniors can ride hey !! Those times are actually correct !! Wessel ( the junior that also won Juma ) was second by 24 seconds . They basically took all the KOM's at Van Gaalen this weekend . They person that was in 4th place according to the timing is incorrect though .
