  1. It is also the last chance for the Juniors , U 23's and Elites to try and qualify for selection to go to World Champs at the end of June in Czech ! A few of the racers that still need one more race within the qualifying criteria set by Cycling SA to be eligible for the team . So should be exciting racing . Good luck to all partaking !!
  2. Nice that the younger riders also gets covered in the media and therefore also getting some recognition. So used to only hearing about the elites winning their races and not much else .
  3. I agree with you that the bikes are flippen expensive ,but Unfortunately the 70k for the bike is actually the least of your expenses when your child competes at national XCO level ! The SA cup races are all over the country. Nelspruit , Cape Town , PE , Pietermaritzburg , Lesotho etc. , and with XCO you cannot just rock up the day of the race and start racing. The tracks are moerse technical so you have to at the very least be there a day before the race to practice the track otherwise you are gonna see your butt in the race.Add to that a day or 2 for traveling . Obviously a minor cannot travel and stay by themselves so a trip like that with food , accommodation and travel expenses start to add up. Never mind the fact that they miss some school as well ! But to be honest , I think it is the same with most other sports. I just don't see how it will be practical to implement some type of limit on how much a bike is allowed to cost . Also we won't be able to compete against international junior cyclists that come and compete here to get UCI points , because obviously they'll be riding much better bikes than our kids.
  4. Nice pics !! It's got to be one of the hardest sporting discipline's in the world. Not only are you revving your heart rate for more than an hour , you also have to concentrate the whole time. Big respect to all the XCO riders out there.
  5. Fantastic that Spur is supporting mountain biking in South Africa so much . The spur school series is a real winner !
  6. Did anyone do the race last year ? Did they resolve the traffic problems. I know in the past some cyclists did not feel too safe of the 106 ?
  7. Any news on availability of these Tyres yet ?
  8. I see total ascent is 210 m per round ; is that for real ? Wondering about front chainring size !?
  9. Hi Guys . Any of you that are already in Potch today for tomorrows race , come pop in to my farm and give your kids some nice exposure to the sport .It will be exciting for them to see the racing . 10 kays out of Potch on the Parys road . Take the Rooipoort turnoff and follow that gravel road . First farm on your right ; easy to find . Your kids will enjoy it ! Racing starts at 09:00 .
  10. I've build an XCO course on my farm ( with the help of some of the local youngsters ) for the local kids to train on . It has developed quite a bit over the last 3 years , with A and B lines , burms , jumps , rocky gardens , table tops and some tight turns . Basically 5-6 kays of fun and sweat . the North West school finals are being held here next weekend ( 27 th ) Expecting about 200 plus riders . And before someone flames me ,I don't charge anything for people to come and ride on my farm , so not doing it for financial gain .
  11. Haters gonna hate. I ,for one think that it is fantastic that money is being spend developing mtb'ing at school level , be it from an individual or from companies like Spur . I am also sure that we will also see the returns on that investment in the not so distant future on the World Cup and Olympic courses .
  12. Have a lekke ride guys. Gonna be hot and dusty.
  13. This is really sad to hear . I don't know who or what the driver was ,don't know what happened on this particular incident and don't want to generalise here , but staying in a student town ( Potch ) I have noticed something that is worrying me a lot . I see more and more young drivers fiddling on there cellphones while driving . I think the problem is also going to get worse , because with social media the younger generation are spending more and more time on their cellphones . The problem is that it is not only cyclists that are in danger , but fellow motorists as well . Will have to start riding more dirt roads . At least there the driver usually needs two hands on the steering wheel .
  14. Does anyone know where we can get the results for the Hartbees Mieliemyl ? Nothing on their website .
  15. 51,5 km/h , maar amper my alie gesien !! Very nice race . Nicely marked , very friendly people at the waterpoints and at the start / finish , and what a lekke route . K@ked a bit because I started a bit to fast . Finished 59,6 km in 2:47 according to my Garmin . Will definitely be back next year . Compared to Dullstroom this was hands down the winner !!
  16. There is a race on Sunday at Deelfontein in the Koepel . It's about 25 km from Potch . www.deelfontein.co.za for more info .
  17. I'm in . Hope the heat is a bit less by then !
  18. Also not having a lot of joy trying to enter . It keeps on telling me " your session has expired , please log in again " when I enter my or my wife's id numbers . ?? Have tried it a few times now .
  19. You can try Leon at Pro-T Cycles in Klerksdorp , but I think for a TT setup - Johburg .
  20. Ha-ha , ja me too !!!!
  21. + 1 Best saddle I've ever used , and I've tried a LOT of them !!!
  22. I had one of the nicest rides I've ever had doing the 94.7 this year with my 14 year old daughter . Both on MTB's with knobbies . Finished in just under 4 hours ( I was lank proud of her ). It was the first time she ever rode more than 60 kay's and she enjoyed it the whole way .She was also really impressed with the amount of friendly cyclists that participated .It was fantastic bonding time for us !
  23. Just a head's up guys . We unfortunately still haven't had any rain in our area , so expect a bit of dust and sand . Also me thinks it might get a little hot and windy tomorrow so you might want to bring that extra water bottle along .
  24. I you want more grip with the same weight as racing ralph , try the Rocket Ron's ( snakeskin ) up front . I've been riding with them in the front since Joberg2C without any issues .Really nice rubber they use that gives it lekke grip .
