  1. Hi I understand the diff between a1k and 2k helmet is weight rather than actual additional safety benefits. Having said that I have only 1 head and I will do anything to protect it hence bought the best helmets I could afford. I had a giro atmos great helmet now have spez prevail for the rd and a fox 661 for the mountain, these are both fantastic helmets and highly recommended. I have seen the POC which looks pretty interesting.
  2. Hi Dawels I can't comment on the spez I too have a Pyga 110 and it is the most amazing bike Iv ever ridden. Read the comments on the Pyga page and other owners experiences and this may give you an Indication of what you too can expect. Granted it may not be the lightest carbon vs alu etc, patric morewoods bikes are renowned for their suspensions and with the lower centre of gravity the 'extra' weight is least felt. Good luck with your eventual decision, my only advice is rather wait for the bike you decide don't rush for what is easily available, you don't want any regrets.
  3. Hi I'm really sorry to hear about your loss, I have a beautiful rd bike tht is becoming more of a conversation piece when I have guests rather thn fr cycling, reason being I am **** scared to venture onto our rd unless it's in a control race environment. With the combinationof increase in bike jacking and total disregard for cyclist presence on our rds resulting in accidents, my passion may lead to my death or injury, a isk I'm not prepared to take. Get well soon young guns; unless there are changes to the authorities approach to cyclist accidents by motorists, there are going to be more incidents where cyclists response to motorists accidents or near accidents are going to turn violent due their frustration.
  4. Ha ha I hear you but its the vibe with the free chockies and the girls and local people generally in happy mood that was missed. Come on snickers create the a vibe it's. Not abt filling the tour organizers coffers.
  5. This was a big disappointment to me as well, as a fun rider I plan my route around the water points stops e.g. 1. Simons town 2. bar one 3. Lebombo 4 hout bay. The bar one stand is always a great sugar boost and albeit snickers has bought the slot via cycle tour I feel they need to spend some of their big budget with a stand on the day which benefits the riders. Imagine if energade was to 'buy' the marketing sports drnk rights from powerade and gives each rider a 500ml bottle of energade in our race packs but no support on the day on the course. So it's very simple really, either 1 in and 1 out or don't mess with a winning formular so to the cycle tour organizers snickers must step up to the plate and fill the role previously managed by bar one or they give the water point back to Nesle. I'm pretty indifferent snickers or bar one but there must be at least 1 on the bend to misty cliffs
  6. Thanks for the support, have a great ride Tom, be safe out there.
  7. Hi fellow hubbers this week has been extremely difficult for many innocent members of MCC Due the unfortunate incident on Sunday. There are many developmental riders who have only 1 kit available and as a result of the many threats, MCC management has decided not to risk any innocent MCC member possibly being injured and suggested not riding in the club kit. This decision poses a huge dilemma for many of the young members as they do not have alternatives. I and a few hubbers have assisted but there are still many Innocent MCC members who unless receive alternate kit will not be able to participate on Sunday. Please assist wherever you can Regards
  8. We have no reason to believe they are not law abiding citizens.
  9. I'm glad people are beginning to look at scenarios that could have let to this extreme aggressive behaviour. I unfortunately do not have any answers either. These are experienced riders who have had encounters with cars or taxis in the past and to be honest the explanation of the group leader not paying any attention to rd and being surprised by a stationary vehicle being the cause for this fracas, I'm afraid does not sit very well with me. As a peloton leader you are vigilant to potholes manholes etc on the rd to warn those behind inthe group not able to see the rd, so really the probability of the group leader not seeing a Toyota van in his path is almost zero. Guys think about this carefully as a cyclist have you ever taken you eyes off the rd soo long for a stationary vehicle that was always in your path to be visible at the very last minute that you almost collided with this vehicle; bearing in mind they were in a group so would not one of the other riders not warned the leader that he is not paying attention to the rd and he was heading towards this vehicle or was everyone not looking at the rd. This by no means justifies the manner in which they expressed their frustration towards these youngsters, but we need to also be logical in our thinking especially when hearing anecdotal information.
  10. Tubehunter thanks for your support, there are a few on the hub who feels that any cyclists associated with MCC would be 'targeted' by the greater cycling community on Sunday, as I said before it would really be a sad day for cycling if anyone would be injured due to pure associations with MCC or wearing their cycling jersey. I want to emphasise the perpetrators linked to Sunday's incident will be dealt with by 1. The law 2. The PPA. All other MCC members are as innocent as other cyclists belonging to other clubs, why then should they be hurt. If there are any corporates or individuals who would like to assist in sponsoring cycling kit,to the many innocent MCC developmental riders who only have the MCC club kit to ride in on Sunday, for fear of retribution by the greater cycling community or public please feel free to contact the management of MCC; why should i wear anything else while many poor innocent MCC riders don't have that luxury.
  11. Hectic, for the many visitors, welcome to Cape Town, what's the argus without a taste of the Cape Dr.
  12. Honestly then the cycling fraternity is no better than the people they have condemned.
  13. Thanks for the encouragement and support, I hope the rest of he cycling fraternity will be as open minded and a gentleman, to see the many innocent members of MCC are not the enemy.
  14. Thanks for your support. We have grown up in a society where restraint tolerance and forgiveness was propogated by one of the worlds greatest leader...Nelson Mandela. Yes MCC has work to do to redeem itself, but guys this could easily have been any other cycling club even yours, does it negate the good the club has done in the past, probably. I'm not in any way condoning the behaviour all I'm asking for is tolerance , tolerance For the many innocent members of MCC.
  15. Hi Gluv Thanks for your response and for your many constructive comments, I agree the image and public perceptionof MCC has taken a beating with this unfortunate incident by a few members and MCC needs to look forward on ways to redeem themselves in the eyes of the public and more importantly, fellow cyclists. I hope management heeds your recommendation.
  16. Agreed, if this was the case I along with many others will be in a disciplinary after every ride. We should have the right to display our dissatisfaction somehow; had the entire group surrounded the van and shouted at its occupants without the violent behavior due to the acknowledged pelting of cyclists by its passengers, would we consider it justified?
  17. I hear you, but I think the publics outrage is due to the violent acts of aggression towards the driver and passenger, if the PPA assesses the need to bring all parties even the youngsters not partaking in these acts I'm sure the club would comply.
  18. It's the freedom of expression which this forum allows whether you agree with it or not argue a point. Yes all agrees with your facts but do we have all the 'facts' at our disposal, understand this by no means justifies their actions but we need to allow them share their perspectives.
  19. I was not in any way involved in the incident and I'm sure many members of mcc were not either. The club has complied with the requests of the Cycle tour and PPA management and unless circumstances have changed MCC and its members have not been banned from riding the tour. The MCC club has done sterling work in many impoverished communities and it's unfortunate the actions of a few have tarnished their reputation. I am going to proudly wear a MCC cycle jersey on argus day to represent the good work the club has done over the years.
  20. Hey Surv This is a forum for expression of opinion, you may or may not agree with people opinions but you really have no right to say they are talking K@k. Yes the video depicts unruly behavior which has been condemned from day 1 by all and sundry, however we need to also hear what sparked such behavior and if anyone can shed more light than the 59s on the video let them do so please. This by no means justifies their actions but we need to at least allow them a forum to explain their side as I'm yet to read anything of this nature...this is assuming they want to do so.. So if you have a counter argument please express this
  21. We can't win the race????..omg..I'm starting at 8, please check I'd rather not ride if I can't win...
  22. Hi sorry to hear abt ur theft, good luck in recovering ur possessions.
  23. Clearly the events of yesterday has evoked outrage condemnation and as a result some emotional response. We need to safeguard ourselves against blanket statements as the actions of a few shouldn't be allowed to marr the reputation of the coolective. In any cycling club there are always a few hot headed ( some view it as competitive) personalities and given the least probation will fly off the handle; does this mean all members in the group are the same? I have read the thread and I do not believe the president was on droning the behavior all he is suggesting is this is the 1 side. Let's be objective in our decisions based on facts and I agree do condemn the guilty parties but do not let it turn into an MCC witch hunt. I'm concerned that its Been forgotten Bellville cycling club was also part of the misbehaved group.
  24. I have another concern With the increase in the number of attacks on cyclists and many have now felt enough Is enough thereby pledging to carry firearms with them when out cycling ( hyper vigilance) combined with the hyper aggression towards motorists I believe this is a powder keg which will explode with a motorist being killed by a cyclist.... Any comments or am I being delusional...
