  1. 91 kg this morning. 7kg to go. If this doesnt help for hills Im quitting cycling
  2. 130 km...kinda sounds like words like 'comfort' and 'plush' should be high on the agenda? I have a duel sus 29er - I also wonder how a 29er HT would be....I have no idea. But for me a 40 km ride is plenty.
  3. I'm a bit heavier than you (fattr). I just don't want splintered carbon up my bum. But seriously - I swapped my existing seatpost out and saved like 400 g!...and its still aluminium.
  4. @ Caerus - you don't seriously want to go for carbon at your weight do you? You can get very light aluminium seatposts. I have a Momsen design, Thompson also has a light aluminium. Just look round. In general one can find aluminium products if you look which is just about the same weight as the carbon alternative. But lets ask - who is the dikkest oak here with a carbon seatpost?
  5. SO I know that popping a red bull half way through a ride certainly makes you feel great, but caffeine also pushes up your HR. So is this not counter productive?
  6. So my resting HR is not moving at all after months. I really would like to see a sub 60 HR (Im 41 years of age). I cant really train more time I'm a week-end warrior but I can change the type of training I do. Whats my best bet?
  7. I run tubeless rims (American Classics) 29ers on my MTB on which I will do the road race 94.7. It wont be with my precious Racing Ralph's on the tar.... I basically need (cheap-ish) tires which need not last long - Any suggestions?
  8. Loratadine. That's the staple of most over the counter 'non-drowsy' anti histamines. Next experiment is Creatine, then VO2 max, then the cuppa before the ride
  9. My wake-up resting HR is usually around 63. After a good ride the next day it will be plus 5. I took an anti-histamine (gen 2) on last Thurs and Fri evening. On Sat I did the Vori Berg 30 km. Before the race the morning I measured my HR and it was 75! More than 10 up on the usual. I did the race but my HR was high all the time, the legs could go but the heart not. My usual average HR of 145 in a 30 km stretch was replaced with 160. I had an OK finishing time but far from great and my expectations (middle of the pack). I suspected that the anti-histamine was the culprit. I waited Sunday->Tue for my HR to drop to 64 again, and then took an anti-histamine in the evening again as a test. The next morning my HR was back to 72! So the bottom line is that anti-histamines - even generation 2 - can increase your HR. If you take them do the test to see if it affects your HR. Does 'artificially' increased HR affect your performance? In my opinion - yes and by a big margin.
  10. You don't say how tall you are....I ride 29er and is of average height but to disembark with the bigger wheels does feel for me somewhat more difficult.(Gonads and all) I think I'm saying I don't think 29ers will work well on technical tracks (e.g. stopping at times) on short people. Who's the shortest 29er hubber ?
  11. I'm not a roadie but I don't think this is possible....
  12. I wash my bike 95 % after every ride (Ill skip if there was little dust and no mud which meant I did not ride hard enough). It takes 15 minutes all up from clean green to pressure cleaner although those damn white rims are a pain. Wont make that mistake again. And I backwash the pool while the clean green works the grease I mostly do it to see if all still looks good, what knocks I took, does the blades still look good and mostly - did the tires take any side cuts, and pull out thorns. She deserves a reward if I had a good ride
  13. I cant take milk to I tried this Future life. It tastes great but I feel very hungry very quickly into my ride. And its expensive.
  14. Look for a bike where you get the best quality base components from the start - that is the frame, shocks and wheels. After that the drive train but be careful - fancier and lighter means easier to brake and expensive to service and replace e..g SRAM X7 is good enough After that look at stem, handlebar, sea tpost - these components can be replaced over months if you want You are probably going to replace the saddle in any case so that does not go to the top of considerations Whatever tyres it comes with you probably going to replace so ignore that ....Get the basics and get that right, rather buy a bike good good base components and heavy aux components, than going for a 70 % fit overall Unless of course money is tight and you only have a once buy chance
  15. Nee - ek gooi nou geld na die probleem
  16. on carbon MTB frames? Im just over 90 kg. Any other dik oaks riding carbon frames which have not cracked as yet?
  17. 'Losing a bike though, is a different matter entirely..' O crap now I'm gonna have the freaking grammar army on my case
  18. I use my GoPro HD for almost all my paragliding flights. It makes for a great log book. And the folks really go 'ooo' and 'aahhh'. On a normal XC MTB ride I find the coverage a little bit boring because its mostly 2 dimensional.
  19. R4,500...my swaer het daai brokkie inligting gemis maar ag dis seker OK ek reken sy company gaan ons sponser - ne' David ?
  20. How does one 'loose' a bike? Its like on traffic radio in the mornings....'and a truck lost its load'.... dude...its not LOST - its THERE...all over the highway.
  21. I have the Go Pro. Once we all get Blueray CD writers the investment in full quality will prove to be the wiser choice
  22. Team Mud, Sweat and Beers thinks this is a WONDERFUL website. We think it was SO FAST, SO AWESOME, so WELL DESIGNED that only people who don't deserve to win the entry lottery can't operate it. Dammit I hope this works
  23. OK genoeg is genoeg.
  24. Mr Bean - lyk my jy staan nou tou vir die newbie pakslae. Hiers 'n tip - as iemand jou vra hoeveel jy weeg...en dit enigsins meer as 60 kg jok maar liewers...die spot wat ek moet deurmaak met my 90 kg plus lyf.....
