  4. Did some test runs on tar, down an incline about 7° and 400m up and 400m down.. Did 10 or 15 runs back and forward...? Eeeiiiiiish... How did I spend 12 hours on a BMX as a laaitie...? My F@$.... My legs hurt and I didn't break a sweat... This is gonna be another kind of fun.. She was smooth and felt quick .. No noises ... Was able to bunny hop but its a diffent technique to hopping my DS MTB.. I've forgotten the stuff I knew So I think this lady is gonna be a new sport..hobby Just need to dial brakes in 100%...and tidy up the detail on the frame . .. I might want to go clipless... My Right foot was a bit slippery..
  5. Managed to find (Chickens teeth) TIOGA SPYDER -- slightly used ... Busy I am now experimenting with Shimano V brakes -- some of these older XT etc stick out a tad, ---- She now sits at 9,90Kg -- working on getting closer to 9,5 -- or 9.0...
  6. Test ride - tomorrow, after work.. Then to find a track.. Brings back memories -- Brikor in Edenvale... way back when,,,,,,, Used to spend many a Sunday falling my ass off there in 81..82.... Building this toys up brought back many good cycling MEMORIES Before mountain bikes existed , we rode the sh&* out of our BMX's and when we felt like a soft ride - we rode all day on our 12 speed racers.. Cycling was simpler, and I lived on my bicycles --
  7. Fitted gold seat post clamp Gold ilink brake cable .. Still waiting for brakes so I built her up with the tektro for now Added gold chain ring bolts Found Tioga power block 1.75 ...added these.. She is just on 10kg.. Still scouring the bicycle shops for a Tioga Spyder saddle.. And brakes that will work aesthetically and for stopping...
  8. Taking a quick break from stock take , anyone know where in Jhb I can find a Tioga D- Spyder seat (Saddle) ??
  9. Hi Cheers, Had a BMX - Summit, American Branded BMX in 1981, which I rode the k%K out of until 1990 something, it was not a well known brand here, but it was a brilliant lugged, frame BMX - chrome and red, -- I TRASHED my shins, elbows & Hands - but never broke anything on her.... It will be weird to get back on a track now .. But I did do some Down hill while living in Cape town until 2001, and since then have MTB,d we do a race a month... I WILL pop you a mail and check the FB... page -- but here at work FB blocked -- so tonight after stock take ill check it out...
  10. Some finer details - I added a 17 tooth Surley Sprocket -- will run 17 / 40 ................. I will also try 17 / 41 18 / 40 & 18 / 41 -- will see which my legs like more --- Sadly next 3 days and nights will be counting stock so she will be left alone .. The Red Line (Red) chain tensioner will be replaced by gold when I can find one
  11. REALLY Old toppies close to 50 - A class for us --- -- good to know -- I will give it a bash -- Cant break more bones than I have in mountain biking --- already --
  12. Gold on Black .. .. Retro .. I myself are not a fan of two tone ... Bicycle Moto X.(.BMX..) Needs to be " tough ..mean.." Just my opinion.. Two tone is soft... The blue GT stripping and Gold break the black.. Leaving her looking ready to win...
  13. Will be wanting a Tioga Spyder saddle in black if anyone has an idea where /who stocks these pls PM me
  14. OK pics as I progress .. Did the Bars over in Black and added lock on grips with Gold lock on and KCNC end caps .. Have Shimano brakes on order the std tektro are #$$&.. Assembled her after the taping was removed .. Need to tidy up the frame and reglue the top pad.. Tyres are on order ... Pedals were found scratching through Cajees in four ways.. Ive learnt to scratch cos asking is always met with "no we don't have....blah .blah.." They had another set also in black.. In the back of the pedal case\display cabinet ( white box in back ) Detail work to finish her then test ride hopefully next weekend..
  15. The Crank arrived, so I spent some hours in the evening - getting the chain wheel to fit --- this involved manually engineering the bicycle side of crank spider to fit a SINZ 41 tooth chain wheel (Filing) -- End result - good (cheaper than a new crank) Also added pedals, and began the colour change process on the frame - Pics will follow of frame -- took one of cranks - gold chain ring bolts are on order, Chose flat pedals over clipless system for ease of use - and to keep the BMX - looking like a BMX -- (IMHO) - Flat pedals look the part...
  16. Don't know if BMX racers are weight weenies but??? I'm trying to keep weight down on the build So far she tips the digital hanging scale at 6kg.. Need rubber on wheels , brake cable and Crankset with pedals and chain...to finish.. I hope to tip them scale as close to 8kg .. Not shabby for a BMX in 24" .. Anyone know what a decent strong 24" Cruiser should top the scales at?
  17. Got an original GT Cruiser bar with pad.. needs a clean and respray .. Added PRO stem , seat post and seat post clamp.. Got hold of a set of unused Gold double wall rims on Redline hubs ..(Rhino lite rims) Might need to respray the frame some custom color to suit the rims .. Maybe also do the bars in gold...
  18. Have wanted a BMX since I sold my 1980 BMX I spent days on my BMX in the 80's .. Sold her in 99 to a staff member needing wheels Now closing in on 50.. I decided it is time to let the 13 year old in me loose again, but this time I want to build a racespec decent BMX Found an unused new 08 Gt frame for a bargain.. Scoured and found external BB.. Bought a Sinz fork on line, and some bits here and there.. All pieces were ready Thurs to begin the Build I might move to a Chromoly frame, for the classic Look but cruisers BMX frames and parts are a little less easy to find.. New cane creek head set fitted forks on new BB fitted .. Will be using Sram X1 1000 cranks with single chain ring.. Possible Alienation wheels on the cards.. Anyone know of 24 " BMX race components ..eg wheels etc pm me
  19. Work in progress Canged to bull horn bars and decided to Go with red on black detail.. Found great light tensioners in red.. Need to do rims and saddle in red,,
  20. Have tossed the normal bars, and put bull horns on with redbar tape Using Bmx brake levers.. As the TT levers look messy on the SS.. Moving to red on black.. So red jag wire added Added some light alloy chain tensioners in red.. Will do the rims in red and some other detailing.. now she weighs in @ 8.80Kg running 48/16..
  21. My 2cents If you can afford it buy it and if you buy it ride it .. Especially if your mates drool over it (keep those minds out the gutters now) It only makes any real difference to those mountain goats who Weigh in slightly less than their bikes .. those pros who ride in pro teams chasing podiums For me as a mere portly mortal If I like it and it makes my ride look great and its lighter .. Cool I will never be chasing a podium ... So its about emotion for mere mortals Top end pros need every edge and they are sponsored so cost is negated.. Who cares anyways as long as it keeps us on the bikes and our sport alive
  22. @+#-$&$ ... Throat still wrecked .. Coughed so bad last ..night I swear my left lung got out and threatened that if I didn't stop he'd duckkk.. So off to Dr.. Now I'm banned from my bikes for 10 days and on the dreaded Antibiotics .. To kill this @%%$#&$ once and for all..... Hope this is it now cos its cutting into my 94 training schedule ...
  23. Going to ride the 94,7 on this Basso ... ZER... Currently tips the scale at 9kg..... Will be looking to get her leaner at 8kg keeping to Correct time spec bits
