Thanks for that. Didn't ride last year but to my mind the average in decent conditions would be around 1% of finishers (900 riders or so) usually do a sub 3. I stand corrected.

Correct. My apologies. F seems to be the last sub3. Only one from there made it. Second one in group F results below. SN 3:00:53 517/31046 M 485/24262 F 2/515 M U23 73/791 36.16

When did you start your garmin? The mats was some distance away from where they let us go from. Sure it takes a good few seconds from when the gun goes to the moment you cross the mats. If you started your timer before the gun went..... Either way. Cracking time. Well done.

That's what I also thought but I'm sure it's debatable. For one the wind affects the pros for less then us mortals. And I would think the pros have extra motivation in today's conditions to move things along to drop weaker riders whereas on fair weather days there's no point. They just sit there and wait for strategic points where the race can be decided.

There was a guy on the floor in Kalk Bay laying very still. Seemed to be with it from a quick glance but can't be sure. I'm hoping the marshall on the scene told him to just hold still.

I would love to know the answer to that. At points up Chappies it felt like the windy gave us one hell ova push up there. I thought there was a few places where the assisted greatly. I went over Chappies 6 minutes adrift of my target and Suikerbos only 2 minutes adrift. So made time up on the downhill whih i put down to the wind in my back. I finished 2 minutes outside of my target and the wind in that last 10km was definitely in my face.
  9. I take a bottle (and Sarmie) to polish off in the start shoot. Can't eat at stupid o'clock when I get up. Sleep well guys. There's a party happening under my bedroom window. Next year I'm staying in a blerrie hotel. Good luck all!
  10. Do you guys freeze your bottles?
  11. Okay, here's the juice. No neef to get alarmed. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/mar/07/chris-froome-withdraws-tirreno-adriatico-injury
  12. Out injured?
  13. On the seeding for the Argus they've changed the winners time to 2:10 ((from 2:37actual). That sets everyone's seeding back. How do they work that boytjie out???
  14. Yeah my thoughts exactly. The mega calm before the storm.
  15. It is 6am and I just woke up and no trace of the 35 knots promised for the day. Be that as it may. The weather will be what it will be. Just give it horns
  16. Just saw that forecast. The wind Will separate the boys from the big boys.
  17. You obviously werent on the route I suggested? If you were and you were on the left you would've been hard up on the Kerb and no one can overtake you. So you must've been on HP and even though legally so, I wouldn't feel safe on that road either. Which is why I suggested the alternative. It's just to wide and the speed limit can't be enforced and overtaking on the left even less so. There will always be the idiot texting and driving at 60km/h and the taxi behind them getting annoyed. I was with a group this past weekend in Cape Town(not knowing where I was going) and we ended up on a road similar to HP. Although legal, I didn't feel comfortable cycling there and I certainly made my feelings known to those I was riding with. I took my route suggestions for Joburg off strava. But do so with caution. The person posting that might have been cycling in a group with a support car so you never know. If that's the case I would also cycle on those roads yes.
  18. Good on yah. If there is positives to be drawn from this, but I believe there is. At the very least this club and the particular members involved will realize how far reaching their actions has been. I'm convinced they can only learn from this and "we" as a collective community have a responsibility to help them grow. All I have to say to the guys from MCC if they ever read this is: I've had friends from Norway, Dubai and London now asking me about this. Because whenever I've invited them to the Argus, all I've ever told them is how great the cycle tour is. What a beautiful city Cape Town is. How friendly the people is. And now they see this. I don't have answers for them. But to you guys. There are people out there (me excluded) who work tirelessly to promote this country and city as a tourist destination. Not for themselves but for the benefit of everyone of us. Our actions do affect the people around us. What's happened here is being condemned and rightly so. But for the sake of the community where this club is operational(and I come from a community like that) as someone else pointed out earlier.... "would you rather have these kids growing up doing drugs and s**t...." At least you have these kids involved in activities and a position where you can still nurture and guide them. When we falter, let's dust ourselves off and try again.
  19. Damn. I think they shut down their FB page after the endless abuse
  20. So "that cricket commentator" was right? Cape Town might have been a nice place had it not been for the big ugly mountain spoiling the view and foooking things up????
  21. And each one of those contradictory predictions will make a full 360 degree change between variations by next week Sunday. Check back into this Fred in 6 days. Or hang around for the discussion for a ride in the whirlpool. It's all part of our annual routine right?
  22. Is the wind such a big thing? Presumably it will be at your back half the time so you make up time lost when I was in your face? No?

See Jan Ullrich posted a pic of himself packing a tandem, saying his packing it for a trip to Cape Town. Any other big names coming out to play?
