  1. Slowpoke, I think Eldron was asking "Why is there so much anger (in the world) these days?" and not "Why is there so much anger over someone's leg getting mangled?"

  3. I just enjoy riding past people like that - they are harmless...
  4. On the Klein Joostenburg ride this morning I heard reports from people who started in the E group behind us that about 5 C/D riders went over the timing mats in the E group and then merged with our group. Thereby scoring themselves a tidy 2 minute bonus on the rest of us. This happened to me before when I came second in a group having been at the front most of the way and blow me down if there was not some phantom rider who managed to gain 2 minutes on our group with no-one ever seeing him ride past us. I wrote to PPA but they never changed the timing or took any action. Am I right to be p!SS3d or should I just take a chill pill?
  5. JimmyB, visibility is one of the big benefits of riding in a group. The others are friendship and backup. We ride through HB Tuesday & Thursday in the early mornings and there always seem to be riders there. I am sure you will be able to find a group in your area. RIP Chris - There but for the grace of God go I...
  6. I have never driven a vehicle that had a wheel come off and nor have I been attacked by a rogue wheel, but I guess that a possible reason would be that when drivers hear the sound of metal cracking they think to slow down (thus allowing the wheel to "accelarate" past the vehicle)? Nah, silly me...
  7. I ride with a group on the front of Table Mountain in winter and my understanding is that cyclists are permitted from Kloof Nek to the beginning of Newlands forrest. It would be great if we could extend the network on to Lion's head legally. I would like to hear more on this...
  8. A couple of months ago I helped a tourista lift his bike over the fence, so I felt no fear as I rode up from Noordhoek (short cutting a long training ride). Climbed over/through the lower fence but when we got to the top there was a reception comittee that pointed to the CCTV camera and said they wanted to arrest us. A cyclist on their side of the fence chimed in agreeing how ridiculous that idea was and they tried to arrest him, but he jumped on his pedals. After 20 minutes of negotiation and radio calls to the big boss in the green shipping container control centre we were allowed to proceed on our way. But yes there are fences and yes it is technically illegal. Riding up to the high point from Hout Bay side is still a great ride...
  9. Hi Fit, as a rookie I need to inform you that the hub is not really the right place to be unashamedly promoting your product/business. Of course if you are offering hubbers a discount - no matter how small - that is entirely a different matter my brother...
  10. Coach said I am a bit acidic? So would I be if my coach spoke to me like that...
  11. but i'm anorexic I beat anorexia and I'm prepared to beat you too, so I don't see any problems. PM me... (Err, jokes right?!)
  12. Did he carry on going up or did he start descending at some stage?
  13. I love you
  14. still waiting for them to come out....at Killarney and flat races this year I have only seen small/thin guys winning the sprint/races. Well Fatcyclist was in the SV break, and I finished under 2:06 which is OK for someone pushing 97 kgs. In any case the thin/small guys are the ones who do all that training and follow special diets and stuff...
  15. Hey, the WCE is just that. Fast, flat and short. And I woudn't want it any other way. We have enough blimmin Cape Cobras, Three Passes, Bay Citys, etc etc rides for the mountain goats. Let us fat guys come out to play at least once in the year!
  16. Have to concur. Donkey has an active sense of humour and his classes are often based on current bike events; eg the DC, etc. And there's often a round-up of bike calendar events. And of course there is the music trivia which just keeps the interest level up. OK, that is probably enough sucking up, but if you are a cyclist looking to do some spinning and you are in Cape Town then Donkey's classes are probably for you.
