  1. I think lots of us come up with the idea in jest, specially when there are 1 or 2 stronger riders on the team, but I am pretty sure it always (?) stays just a joke. If you want to cheat there are plenty ways to do it, but as udxcob says, it is just cheating yourself.
  2. Sounds like an advanced form of motorpacing...
  3. Finally! A topic I can talk on with some authority... And the answer is "Yes, but not fast enough to catch up with the bunch of weight obsessed annorexics who have just dropped one on the climb".
  4. The front end looks so painful, but I am sure you could get handsome moolah for that if so inclined...
  5. Seems like everyone is doing the litterbug... Check this thread - https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=51672&PID=792008#792008
  6. What kinda thread are you on dude? This is a cycling forum!
  7. Not giving everything I've got...
  8. So here's the R3000 question: If I have - let's say R3000 - what is the best light I can get for the money? I ride with a group twice a week at night for maybe 2 hours, but may be interested in doing the TranBaviaans at some point.
  9. Ngala, are you a cyclist by any chance?
  10. Well done on anyone who finished. Or started for that matter. 10.5 hours and the stupidest, hardest and most wonderful thing I have done. Outstanding organisation (start/finish, food/drink replenishment and route marking) under the toughest conditions - well done to the organisers for having the courage to continue with the event.
  11. I think that the rider was evasive - bikes leaning against a wall don't just "fall over" and how can he answer "Not that I remember" when asked if the bike was involved in any crashes. Or does he crash so often on his other bikes that it all becomes a bit blurrey? I remeber every one of my crashes: where, which bike, what my excuse was, etc...
  12. So I joined up with the group by default, but did not even get to meet the whole crew - except for Waterbottle and Scotty. Fanie I know already...
  13. I'm no Vaalie/Gautie, but I always am looking for an excuse to visit. To maximise the participation it needs to be attractive at multiple levels. I guess you need to consider starting small and then moving/upgrading it if it is well received. When: You guys know when it is best to ride in Jhb - would you opt for summer/winter/, etc. Just find a weekend that fits... If you find the right formula, it will become a key event in its own right. Where: It needs to be stunning scenery. 200kms on a bike is a long time. Magaliesbug? Show the visitors who make the trip what scenic delights the area offers once our of downtown Jhb... How: Speak to the current DC organisation team. Try and find the win-win, not the loose-loose. Perhaps the events could be linked in some way, rather than competing with each other? It would be unfortunate if both events just became local events... Etc, etc. Long topic, lots of passion (not all of it misguided), but little time...
  14. I was driving up the road from the Hout Bay side at about that time and recall seeing a solo rider in some red kit (was that you carlo?) as I came round a left turning bend. There was an oncomming car and I had to squeeze through between the two prompting my 12 year old son to ask "If you had to hit one of them which would you choose?" Please people, choose your routes carefully. Ride in groups. And let me suggest that as cyclists we "Think Car" because sure as eggs, most car drivers are not thinking bike. Unfortunately I did not see the bus in question...
  15. RESPECT DUDE!!! Quite impressed you giving it a good go' date=' but damn it must be hard climbing[/quote'] ek is seker ons het die ou by die DC gesien this was dc 2007 This was at the top of Op Die Tradouw's DC 2007 - I think my team was in the next picture in the sequence. And he finished the race too - I saw him coming over the mats as we were leaving...
  16. Also spoken to her and received prompt response/service. And with 35,000 participants or whatever she must have a busy time of it...
  17. 1 - A medium distance mountain bike race - Jonkershoek - when the marshals directed the front group onto the long route by mistake. 2 - Corporate team winners for the Argus 2008 (Aim to repeat that in 2009) 3 - The Hartenbos 60km Boxing Day Classic in the tandem category. If anyone mentions that no other tandems were present that day they will be shot. Puts gun to head....
  18. Gianni, give me a shout when you want to ride in the City Bowl area...
  19. It is a polite way of asking how hard you ride. Before everyone shoots me down about how the Argus is no indicator of ability, the reality is that it is: there is a huge difference between riding 2:45, versus 3:15 versus 4:00, etc. The owners of all those times ould probably describe themselves in a similar way "Ya, I'm quite keen on cycling..." so by knowing their actual or planned Argus time you have a polite way of knowing if they will get burned on your training ride, whether they will burn you or whether there is a happy compromise....
  20. Can't believe no-one mentioned the Double Century. For me it is such a different race and one I really look forward to.
  21. Nope - it is the damage to your "soul", your personal moral knowledge of right and wrong...
  22. Are you suggesting that this applies to Princess Anne as well?
  23. Partly, but the wind was a howlin too...
