  1. As others have said there is more to life than cycling, and I am definitely not obsessed. I live a well balanced life and enjoy plenty other activities: Eating (ensuring my nutrition levels are optimum for my next ride), Sleeping (giving the muscles time to recover) & Working (money for next bike/upgrade). There are probably plenty other activities I just can't think of any right now...
  2. If people are that side I can also reccomend the MTB tracks (3 routes when last there) in the mountains above Sedgefield. Access is free. Eugene in the Sedgefield Cycleworks bike shop is an active rider, very knowledgable and alsways has time to talk cycling. He also organises group rides (road & MTB).
  3. Skeem izza place where the larnies take a dump man.
  4. Just a small note: the mathematical notation is incorrect (hey this isn't spelling or grammar!)... The options should read > 20 10-20 1-9 0 My answer is 0 because I don't have a television. But if I did have, I am sure there would be some points. This poses an interesting philosophical question: if a rider appears in some footage, but does not see it, is s/he in fact famous? Or for that matter, did s/he even participate in the event? And please note that this is all my own work - any correlation to other rantings by crazy philosophers about trees and forests will be strongly denied...
  5. HR, not being picky, but I think "hunt oN a course" would make more sense?
  6. The Burger article says: Mnr. Now my Afrikaans is not the best, but I think it read "Die fiets WAS sowat R40,000 werd." I don't think yo9u will find many willing buyers in the R40,000 range for a bike in three pieces...
  7. Lets stay with the documented version of events (as per pererace70)rather than adding unsubstantiated heresay to the mill. Alternative state your source/s. I was also on a Sunday morning ride in that area and was buzzed by 30 or so bikes going in the opposite direction up Chapman's Peak from Hout Bay side, some of the riders utilising the full width of the road - ie coming over onto my side of the road almost to the yellow line. As an ex-biker myself I know that it is fine to act like a lunatic, until there is an unforeseen event: a puncture, a piece of slate in the road, an unanticipated action by someone else, etc. Thats when tings go
  8. Come on guys - its just 4096 pixels we are talking about here... Mountains & molehills, storms & teacups...
  9. I would not say so. I personally find that desparate race conditions with all the adrenaline flowing around get my HR higher than any test. Going up Smits in the Argus the last in my group I found an extra 2 BPM over my previous Max. Yes, I managed to stay in contact with them by a hair's breadth!
  10. Agreee! With parental control switch on = "Your search returned 23 images" With parental control switch off = "Your search returned 15,928,863,419,528,482,747,571,345 images"
  11. Classic! Thanks for sharing - I only just saw the radio-active sign on the barn door!
  12. Reminds me of the early days of email when I received an attachment called "Man with big cock" - The picture shoewed a typical farm scene together with farmer and a very well photoshopped 6ft tall rooster.
  13. Maybe you need to reverse the valve?
  14. Instead of just looking, how about actually weighing? All things being equal, the Merida.
  15. Lighning just over our offices on the foreshore! Flash-BANG!
  16. Raining and Mother's day - I will pass this one...
  17. Cheeky cheeky! My two passions are food and bicycles - what can I say? Actually, I have lost some 15kgs since I started riding, but at a geboude 6'4" I am always going to be dropping off my bunch going up Chappies for example.
  18. How about racing in weight categories, much like martial arts? Then all us fat guys can struggle up the hills together!
  19. FAKAWI comes from - Where the F&CK Are We ?? very cool dudes, they are who i rode with when i lived in Malaysia ... OK, so I was not a million miles off base
  20. But seriously folks - I had an interesting one recently: I have the Thule towbar mounted rack and had 3 bikes on the back on a long drive. We heard a muffled bang on the drive and on getting home saw that the exhaust fumes had burnt through the tyre. Moral, check proximity to tail pipe and remove wheel if necessary...
  21. There is a parallel thread running that has some pictures of bike racks: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=26056&PID=417128#417128 Check em out...
  22. As in "F*ck-a-white-tribe" ? You have to be kidding...
