  1. Be careful limiting yourself to a certain "size". Some 29er Hardtails only come in S/M/L with no XL and in these cases the L size effective toptube can be more than 625mm+... in these frames you will certainly need a S. Measure your toptube including stem up-to the middle of your saddle/seatpost and see how that translates to the specific frame you are buying. It's all to do with the actual frame/geo of the bike you are getting... a S is not a S is not a S....
  2. +1 Johan at yellowsaddle
  3. What everyone forgets to mention about the 2012 XT brakes is that you MUST use the ICE-TECH Rotors + Pads with them to get the full benefit!! Or is it so obvious that it's not ever mentioned at ALL?? And the thing is that many stock bikes are sold as "Full-XT" run the RT-76 rotors and not the real deal RT-86 Ice-Technologies... And that makes me think that a certain amount of people just rave about the XT2012 brakes because they read, heard or "tried" them without actually really having any clue about brakes in general... And I suppose that pretty much goes with what someone else already said - most people suggest what they run or "hear" about... So how much advice stems from real experience or actual technical understanding, this is questionable or debatable...??? But yeah, in any case 2012 XT is the bomb...
  4. Joking right? 2012 XT is as good as it gets, especially if you use the ice-tech rotors and pads!!! Really not much out there that can beat it's performance/weight/reliability/usability/features by more than %5-10, even at almost any cost.
  5. Stuff them- maybe it's in the "interest" of all hubbers not to take their business there... I wont buy/use them again, yes - simply by the one sided view...
  6. Awesome! Berms=yes!!! More track and options = yess!!! Grading = nice.... Thaba is simply awesome!
  7. +1 XT 2012 with ICETEC rotors are the BOSS!!! thats how i roll....
  8. Yes, crop the pic to hide the grips... because you know that bike needs WHITE ones..... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=24585 In fact, i'm going to buy you a set with my next order... just to prove a point...
  9. it's all the pies... nothing to do with your bearings.... maybe the beer-ing...
  10. Agreed... congrats on your good placing, Scott is a great racing bike. Spez are special, but you have to fork out loads of cash and then still upgrade the heck out of it because they like to mix components....X7/X9/XT like crazy mixes sometimes... dont get that....
  11. Scott Spark Elite 29er is the best value for money in the +-R 20k price range. Forget your worries about the rear shock, some idiot writer found that to be an "issue" and then all the other idiots followed behind. The rear shock is fine, trust me I had this bike. The wheels are also fine, no need to change them at all. I can honestly say the only thing you can change would be the stem, post, bars, saddle and grips.... I put crank brothers cobalt 3 and a fzik and it was the BOMB. To be honest with you, depending on your size, it will be very difficult to find a Niner or Spez 2nd hand at this time. Most guys stretch their budgets to buy these bikes in the first place and wont want to take the knock selling them 2nd hand... and if you do, you better be QUICK! or it will be gone in a couple of minutes. My Spark Elite with upgrades sold at price of 30% less than retail sold under 24 hours since positing on the hub. And i had guys fighting about it. Race orientated dual suspension would really only be the Epic, Spark 29er or Cannondale Scalpel.... Good luck with your search, can't go wrong with the Spark, Spez, or Scalpel's....
  12. Crc rules!!!! Ill also let you know another little secret.... www.probikeshop.com they rock!
  13. Cost them BILLIONS.... to design indicators... Wonder how many BILLIONS it will cost them to design a paragraph in the user manual to explain that it's not good for you gruppo to cross shift... Or maybe [they] expect the chain manufacturers to put it in their pamphlet.... Or maybe [they] dont want us to know.... Now CROSS DRESSING is an entirely different subject... but I guess the fashion industry spends at least BILLIONS in designing, research and development to adress this specific issue... and I am not sure clothing labels specify against the practice of cross-dressing, my clothes only prescribe washing and ironing instructions....
  14. Because effectively you do have more gears if you eliminate the cross chain ones... I.e a 9 speed drop high/low cross and you have 7 I.e a 10 speed drop high/low cross and you have 8 I.e a 11 speed drop high/low cross and you have 9 Or am I being stupid or missing something.... And by the way, I just checked my car manual, nowhere does it say I should not be driving in reverse gear all day long....I wonder why they dont spend billions in giving me extra reverse gears???
  15. Hi Guys, What's the best price you could find on your SCALPEL 29'ER CARBON 2? And obviously I would love to know where this was from? I'm really not interested in any added value... just want to walk-in, pay... walk out with the bike... Can/Will do all the setup, etc myself... will do some upgrades but buy these parts from chainreaction/probikeshop and do them myself... Thank you for sharing...
  16. NO 29ers... pity.... good price and awesome looking... I want a 29er so that I can build a single speed, and have dangle ride figure 8's around me... LOL
  17. Alu is the one to get... Plastic is overrated... Patches crakendale needs white grips, i KEEP on telling him, he doesn't wanna listen... He is too tight to fork our R200 @ CRC for a pair.....
  18. There is nothing wrong with your brakes... they are not "breaks" or "broken".... All they need is a good bleed... the Caliper on the new XT/XTR is a bit tricky to bleed... and if you bleed them right they will BITE like crazy, trial or race.... Even though the one-way bleeding is AWESOME... you have to get the air out, and the only way to do that is to remove the caliper while bleeding and to move it to a couple of different angles during the bleed process to get all the air out. I promise!
  19. Show him your DHL line video.... it's all thats left to do now... maybe thats why you "sound" like that... not asthma but rather the fact you roll without padding???? PS> If it's a rocky trail then i wear a SMILE....especially while i'm busy passing a 29er mounted by a dirt roadie.....
  20. Don't you know anything? For Forks Sake.... 22,000 posts??? why dont you also make up your own terminology and then you can also arrange your own rideout...or offride...or outsideride... or outsidefreeride.... or allmountainoutsideride..... This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!This ride is NOT FOR BEGINNERS ..!!
  21. on a spending spree much??? THIS, i.m.o tops the Jekyll on all fronts... especially the FSR suspension and the LOOKS... http://www.thehubsa....ks-enduro-2011/ You are welcome to take this for a spin on the weekend? Good test to see if you like 150mm travel? It eats Rietvlei Blue for breakfast.... http://www.thehubsa....mountain-large/
  22. sure, i understand... the problem is you cant always find the things you want at the LBS... and if you do, they rip you a 2nd ring for the GOOD stuff....
  23. I only slow down for ladies, greet them politely, smile, and .... sweaty, dirty, salty spruit chicks are the BEST....
  24. Yes... x4... but also because it's fun to do the online research, fill a shopping cart, read the other buyers reviews... it's also fun tracking your shipment online and when it finally arrives it's like a big O.....
