  1. Those look like Club 100 jerseys in the photos? Can anyone confirm. I know they park at Culinaria as well and use that road.
  2. I park at Culinaria and ride there every weekend. Those roads are as wide as you can get and are better than the cradle roads.
  3. Same as the Durban story - this guy is rich and has money and will be bribing people to get away with it. This was the photo i was sent on another group. Pity you cant see the pates.
  4. Garmin because of the after sales service
  5. I am glad i am not the only one that is in this "first world" equation. My Zwift hardware budget is considerable - was just looking at it now. Then when it all goes pear shaped as Bluetooth is flaky or Zwift brings an upgrade out or the wifi on the Apple TV 4 k bounces a huffy fit is thrown by She Who Always Must Be Obeyed (henceforth SWAMBO), and i then get to spend the afternoon recalibrating trainers and working out why it all stopped working. Zwift also believes in fast code releases so all they do is break 10 things with he new release and fix the previous 8. It's a joke. July last year i was about 85% up Alpe du Zwift, SWAMBO decides it would be nice to ride as well, she gets on and her trainer connects to my phone (as i had been doing spindowns a week before so had the Wahoo app loaded on my phone), which then means there isn't enough BT available for all my connections and my session stops. Every time i try and restart it, it does it again. I didn't get the mellenstein wheels that day. I also learned a lot about how many BT sessions a phone or an Ipad or a mac can handle and it isn't a lot, and if you do get something that is persistent it will hook a BT port and NEVER release it. So once it has it connected then nothing else will connect. Aftershokz headsets will crash an Apple Macs BT so badly you need to reboot the Mac. I still have no idea why but i have proof of it cause my mates does the same. Best solution was going back to a cabled headset. Anyway like you say - first world problems.
  6. TBH I have many times thought consolidating all of it a of buying 1 x Kickr training bike for both of us which would likely simplify my life a lot and in hindsight is probably what all the add ons I have invested in building my Zwift setup for two of us has cost. But this still does not address what happens on a cold and rainy morning in CTN in winter when we both want to Zwift. You can get away cheaper and dont need all the below but the add ons start adding up as well: - monitors - rather than laptop - you will buy some sort of large screen TV eventually when you get in to it - training mats to put the trainers on - dedicated training desks to stand all the accessories on you need (remotes etc) - fans and aircons for cooling - blocks to raise the front wheel - rocker boards etc and feet for the Kickrs to make them move more naturally - long list of Dongles, cables (ANT +, HDMI) and USB C adapters for laptops Like everything in cycling its an endless list of things that you are buying to get it all up and working Oh and i forgot the bluetooth speakers and headsets for being able to Discord and talk to your mates on long rides.
  7. Haha let me tell you my saga as to what i did for this issue after countless attempts to reach a happy medium. 2021 Lockdown lead to my wife not wanting to go to the gym any more. I had my Kickr and the spare road bike on it. Guess what - she took a liking to Zwift after a couple of tries to see if she could replace the Watt bikes she was using at Virgin, As we are the same height it wasn't a problem. But then the issue becomes that you both want to train at the same time. Final solution: we now have 2 Kickrs, monitors etc setup alongside each other - like anything with cycling as soon as your spouse gets into it everything doubles in cost. And then you start to manage bluetooth connections interfering with each other etc etc. Finally i am building a new house in Paarl and it has a "Zwifting" /training studio added on to accommodate us with this. I had some old road bike and gravel bikes that were not costly so they are the Zwift/Kickr bikes we are using . Good luck - you will i think need to be very tolerant of each other and arrange training schedules accordingly and agree who will ride what events when if you have 1 x trainer.
  8. Rollers are great for incredibly smooth pedal strokes and working on pedalling in circles. Having said that they are also good for legendary accidents and injuries. Not sure if you have ridden them before and are a pro but they can be a challenge to master initially and when you do get windgat on them and it goes wrong you can fall quite hard. I had some major getoffs sitting on them in my lounge in my house.
  9. and the schlep of having your bike with you and having to cart it to the airport and drop it off. Its worth the money to outsource the problem.
  10. Thanks - if you google elliotts then Fabians also comes up. You just need to pay for a couple of search terms on google. I saw Joggies was recommended by Andrew at Cyclelab as well, so if the Elliotts guys dont create a service i will definitely use him.
  11. BTW saw this online when i was looking for Elliotts for the upcoming race: https://www.hellopeter.com/elliott-mobility/reviews/elliot-bicycle-transport-to-ct-dont-leave-without-them-2704315 I am not sure if the service is running for the 2021 version. I would be interested who you decide to go with when you do as i need to solve the same problem. There's a bunch andrew Maclean recommends as well. I was thinking of using them if Elliotts don't open up a service.
  12. Thanks Chris - i have literally looked everywhere for these and yes they do them. Will get one from them when i am down there.
  13. nope i have googled flat out. Do you know contact details. Lost of people make battery packs but your cant import them.
  14. Hi all, trolling the ebike forums and topics. Does anyone know any supplier locally for third party booster battery packs for ebikes. I am looking for either. spare battery or a battery booster pack for my wife's bike - any ideas of anyone who i ports. Its a Specialized Turbo Levo - older model not the current one.
  15. WRT Bike Transport: Elliotts were really good for me in the past on bike transport. I used them as well so can recommend them, and i recommend them as they box the bike whole and you don't have anyone doing anything to your bike to pack them tighter in a trailer to save space. I didn't use them for the last CTCT in October and it cost me. I used Fabians bike transport as Elliotts weren't running their service and Fabians guys unfortunately dropped my bike on the RHS STI by them which damaged it. Not significantly just cosmetic scratches (deep and will reduce the value of the bike though) but more than irritating as it was clearly their fault which they of course denied, but after much ranting and raving they offered to fix it and "would collect it" . Needless to say its the 20th of December today and i am still waiting for them. It was clearly their fault but rather than own up they denied all responsibility and have dodged me ever since. Moral of the story is that there are many operators who transport bikes down to CTCT but the smaller ones do move your bars to allow them to pack more bikes in the trailer. They also have no insurance and will do everything to ensure they make it your responsibility. R 1200 for return trip to CTN was the rate which is the same as Elliotts. Be careful which ones you choose and ask the right questions. Work through the big bike shops.
  16. I was looking at this string and about to comment and I saw Eldron on here and smiled. Whilst i certainly don't have your list of injuries I also didn't believe that a proper bike fit would solve the issues. I even argued back quite a bit when he gave the above advice as i was in the same frame of mind. 57, not a small lad, been on bikes for 25 years plus and kind of just decided that HTFU was what was needed. You can go and find the string here on the hub. Anyway I went to Richard Baxter locally. The changes to my riding and comfort were material. In many aspects. Comfort was improved, endurance therefore better and some others which i am not sure i should get in to the details (VO2 and FTP). I also am built like a rugby prop so a Q factor of a Bianchi that Pantani rode also leads to me pushing off the edge of the pedals. I. had used spacers but nothing like the ones i now ride with. I cant comment on the injuries that you have and how they influence things but i can comment on the bike fit piece and the attitude of "I am getting old so HTFU as its just a bit of pain etc". That was what changed. I can say that it was eye opening and i constantly wished i had done it a lot earlier. Disclaimer No1 is is that this isn't a cheap exercise t cheap and that if your setup is wrong it may involve costly new bits like bars, saddles and stems. But if you look at how much time you spend on the bike and new groupos, tyres etc, what's the point of not getting yourself comfortable on it and properly sorted. It's a very good use of your money.
  17. Hi have been running AB ovals for some time now and they work fine. Rings are great mine are about 4 years old and still going fine and i am a fat boy so can hurt chains and rings.
  18. In the UK if you break in to a shed (where bikes are mostly stored) its not seen as breaking and entering and as a result its a much lesser crime. So thieves don't get charged with much if they broke in to a shed, so they get off with a minor fine and no record. Or so i was told by my mate who has had his shed burgled multiple times and as a result is lighter a couple of bikes. Seems like bikes are seen as a luxury lifestyle toy in some countries. Or basic transport and rights in other. So redistributing access to transport is a right.
  19. Me as well I eventually had three sets of pedal spacers machined from a set I got from @Richard Baxter at a bike fitting. I have the same problem. I am now using 20 mm extenders on all my bikes. If you are built like a prop forward why do they think the same Q factor that fits Pantani will apply to you? I first saw this on my Garmin Vector pedals which has platform centre offset measurements on it and it shows i am pushing off the side of the pedal rather than on the centre line. There are alos extra spindle length Shimano Ultegra pedals ( have a set) but when i changed to the garmins they don't have the same extra spindle length. I suppose you could get a set machined but spacers work as well. Also try Lake shoes if you have big feet - recommended.
  20. Very worrying - like i said i have always felt safe in the cradle with the volume of riders in there. Not sure if that's a good idea any more
  21. All you are doing now is making me green with envy. I was at my house i am building near paarl yesterday and i can tell you this route has been on my mind as one of the bucket list ticks i need to ride when i am local. That and Du Toitskloof, Franschhoek pass and Helshoogte plus Swartberg. the list is long and growing...
  22. Nay master dis nou n *** idee daai. Not the events idea - like that, but the route. I swore after the detours with the fires that i wouldn't ride Ou Kaapse again - thats a really hard core haul back in to town if you are chasing time. I reckon its quite a bit tougher than Suikerbossie and Chappies. Can you imagine the descent off Signal Hill? You would be collecting noob riders out of hedges and fences?
  23. It was a very nice time to be in CTN TBH and i was thinking its probably a better time of year IMO as the country is green at the end of the rains. But it could also have been wet and windy like at Epic.
