  1. Do they though? I almost never see any consequences for people who jump ahead to start in earlier groups. And to be fair to the marshals, also something very difficult to police in practice and one trouble maker can occupy a marshal for minutes while 10 others slip trough.
  2. Sub-3's till one 1F, definitely was the year to chase it...
  3. Just a minor moan, flippen beer tent that only sells beer from 11h00. As if I am going to hang around for an hour and a half to buy my first beer after the race, then I'll just go drink my beer somewhere else 😝 What great weather we had today, PBs all around, hard to beat a day like today on the bike.
  4. Ride to the start, lots of others will also. Then when you finish you are at your accomodation, no need to ride into town to fetch your car.
  5. Yes - unfortunately Cycle Tour doesn't take age cat racing seriously. Will be a massive (and dodgy) bunch till around Smitswinkel with a lot of people there that don't really belong in age cat racing. Around Chappies the actual racing starts
  6. My fastest time at the CTCT was when I was dead tired after a week of hard TdC racing, still don't get the logic of how that played out, but hopefully on Sunday you will also get to laugh at all the people who tapered this week...
  7. 500 was bulletproof - had it many years, currently happy with my 530 - no issues 520 was a disaster for me, worked through 3 of them in 2 years, had the weirdest random issues, each of them basically only lasted 6 months. Made me invest in a cheap Xoss so that I have a cycling computer while Garmin took their time responding to my issues.
  8. How is Tour de Cap going? Must have been an easy morning if you are hanging around on the hub 😀
  9. Yes, time splits mostly pointless other than to remind you that the difficult part of the route is in the 2nd half of the race. The rest will be determined by your group & weather on the day.
  10. Hate to say it but if its out of warranty Garmin SA is not going to be much help to you. Best you can hope for from them is an offer to replace with a refurbished unit at slightly better than normal retail price (but not better than you can get with a bit of digging on the internet)
  11. Officially no, and the last group starts before 9h00 so even for Elites it would be a stretch to get back from the finish to the start in time before the last group leaves. Sure there are some rogue riders who do it unofficially and enter the route somewhere else (trickier than you might imagine), just remember to take off your timing chip as to not get recorded attempting the route again.
  12. Maybe he meant friend & ally like Trump is for Ukraine?....
  13. Entered... Are you part of the WC gravel series again?
  14. Well yes certainly beyond my abilities as well! But I know people who managed it...
  15. Yep - in good conditions 16 hours are possible for a very strong amateur.
  16. If you need to get back into cycling then maybe D'Ville club is an option, they have various groups. But they mostly do rides on weekends, not too many weekday options. This time of the year they usually ride from the DVille shop on Saturdays around 6h00, Sundays a bit later
  17. Couple of years back I took out a data contract with MTN, literally only used it to log my home PC onto the internet. Not once called or sms'ed from that number. Also within weeks I started receiving spam on that number (can't say about calls as it was never connected to a phone). Quite a few from the spams were from local CPT businesses so I suspect its someone connected to the shop that gave out the number.
  18. Not a fan of ebikes mixing it up with normal bikes but learned to live with it... tbh its fine while there are only the odd ebike in the mid & back groups not really interfering. Problem is, there is always that one guy ignoring the rules potentially creating problems
  19. There was an ebike that came flying past B group on Adderley, don't know if the group caught up with him again - doubt it. Clearly that gentleman was exempt from starting at the back with the other ebikes...
  20. How far is your commute? Personally a normal backpack never bothered me. That is where I would start with if I was you before investing in a carrier. But then my commute is only 40 minutes (on a slow day). Like @peetwindhoek said, I consider the backpack part of my strength training.
  21. need to do this race at some point, although with the big climb at the finish it would just be a glorified training ride for me as I have no chance to hold onto the 60kg lightweights...
  22. Think we would have to go way back to find a "fanboi" re Garmin backup/service, have been crap and getting progressively worse for years.
  23. You will be perfectly fine on a mtb, enjoy the ride! 😀
  24. Guess that is why for many years DC did not count for seeding, only in the last 2/3 years I have seen DC's start counting for seeding
  25. I dont get the idea that they are actively aiming to be bigger than the Epic? Starting with 500 entrants (equaling 250 Epic teams so about a 1/3rd of the Epic), going for a luxury setup so I assume aiming for high profit margins so they dont need Epic numbers to be successful. Excited to see gravel growing and I hope this is successful. But I don't see this becoming the gravel version of the Epic, completely different type of appeal.
