  1. if its not timed ... er, how do they work out results?
  2. Let me say it again .... I do not have a problem with Champion Chip. They do a good job, but three people who can't or will not read have a problem!!
  3. its simple: Park lights are for parked Fog lights are for fog Driving lights are for driving Driving lights in day time are more visible than fog lights ... but then they don't give that "look at me, I'm important" status!!
  4. This is quite pathetic .... bottom line is that you should read the entry site carefully, check what you are paying. Weigh up the odds and decide whether or not to enter the race.... I like Champion Chip, but I also like RaceTec and SAS coz they provide a service I'm willing to pay for!!
  5. two years ago I got hit by a stupid heifer who went through a red light on van Buuren rd.... the syphilitic new age cow just drove away as if nothing had happened ... its not as though I had no visible injuries, but that meant nothing to the creature!!
  6. Bike was not badly mangled at all... only visible damage was that the seatpost had been broken off. Back wheel was not even buckled and he was hit from behind. Police were on the scene very quickly... even before tow trucks!
  7. happened around 10:30 outside Engen garage just past intersection of Pomona/High rd
  8. ... my credit card loves them so much so that it even asks me when we are going to those nice people at Finish Line Cycles for a slide through the machine!
  9. UTI ... from CT to my door for R250, but not overnight.
  10. In Evildale a few years ago I was passing a queue of cars and decided it would be quicker if I was on the pavement so zooted up a driveway entrance but didn't notice the guide/tensioning wire for a street light pole which my handlebars found. Problem was that the bar-ends made sure the bike was going upwards and before I knew it I was upside down 10-feet in the air and plummeting earthwards .... must've looked great!!!
  11. Also will be a large 'low cost' housing development somewhere. An area of Greenstone was earmarked for low cost housing, but fortunately it never happened. Heartland is the property arm of AECI.
  12. Champion Chip was one of the first timing companies I remember so it has been around for yonks, but I admit it doesn't do much mtb timing lately. Perhaps Champion Chip should look at ensuring it has transponders on sale at entry/number collection points because a lot of newbies have probably never heard of Champion Chip.
  13. I saw it was timed by championchip but couldn't find my chip thingy so popped into Tony Impy and bought another ....hence my rant about winning time, champion chip, SAS etc last week!
  14. Also did 35km in just under 1:30. Great fast route and I loved the fact that there were no bottlenecks. I'll do it again!!!
  15. Having bounced off a car windscreen and landed head first in the middle of van Buuren road I'll stick to wearing a helmet thanks. Helmet was broken, I was concussed but I'm still riding ...
  16. Nobody has mentioned anything about traffic conditions at the time of the accident. That could have a bearing on the case. If traffic is backed up and you go whizzing past, just as someone leaves space for a vehicle to turn right, although driver of turning vehicle is still at fault, there is much less blame attached. Happened to a friend who hit a scooter that was riding between two lanes of cars. Scooter rider badly hurt, but he got fined R250 for failing to keep a proper lookout.Scooter rider charged with reckless driving!!
  17. In a hijacking there's no time to grab a gun ... believe me. I have been there and carrying guns will just make the f....k...rs shoot first. I think CSA should immediately ban anyone carrying a firearm in a race.
  18. May I please rant? Somebody goes to the trouble of posting something serious and gets all these stupid comments. That's the problem with forums, if you got nothing intelligent to say, then move on to the next topic.
  19. Wouldn't it be nice if one could by a timing transponder with a licence and that is then yours for all events.
  20. We have a plethora of timing systems/companies and quite frankly it is becoming a nightmare...
  21. Believe me ... it happens so fast and when you least expect it and if I had a gun it would have been stolen. Up against 1 gun and 1 knife I did not put up a fight!! I ride alone. I work from home and have often ridden from Germiston to Randburg for a meeting or taken a camera to Linden for repair. R40k camera and R25k bike through darkest downtown JHB ...even got caught up in a Cosatu protest march once and took refuge in a doorway!!
  22. I'm afraid, based on past experience, I find the heading to be very true .... I was in a car crash and it is impossible to find out what happened to me!!
  23. I do not own a car. So travel either on my mtb or motorcycle. I have, in over 40 years of riding bicycles, had meetings with 3 cars. Once (about 1971) it was my own fault. In 1976 a car pulled out from a stop street in Greenside when I was coming back from a training ride to Alberton. In 2011 a silly woman jumped a robot in Bedfordview and I bounced off her windscreen to land face first in the road. I ride with an atitude whereby I know I will get hurt in any accident so whether I have right of way or not, I will give right of way to anything ..... Sccariest moment .... nothing beats sliding along the tar with cars whizzing past my head in the fast lane of the M1 after a front tyre punctured..... I ride to survive!!
  24. Don't forget cyclists are supposed to ride in single file and obey road signs, traffic lights ect. I suppose when we ALL start doing that then we might have a right to complain about other road users not obeying the 1,5m rule. At the moment cyclists seem to think they are above the law and its about time cops started prosecuting for ignoring stop signs, traffic lights, road markings etc.
  25. Last week Burry Stander was killed when a taxi turned in front of him. This morning a group of cyclists on Elm rd, Benoni A/H ignored a traffic light as I was crossing the intersection on green, but it gets better. They also then proceeded to block the entire lane with their 'service' car riding behind them. So cyclists break the rules then get pissed off when car drivers also break rules.....
