  1. This should be done for all big events, MTB included
  2. What I find with MTB gloves is that the index and thumb tips begin to wear out with all the braking and gear chaining. Have you had any issues like this?? I have resorted to using leather Hirzl gloves to prevent this, but the stitching keeps coming out.
  3. Need some advice moms and pops. It's almost time to upgrade my four year olds balance bike to a peddle bike. We can't raise his seat anymore and he's wanting to go faster but can't use the crappy drum brake on his bike. Any advice on what a good upgrade should be?? Don't really want a Makro special but rather something designed for kids that's works well. I know LBS's will stock some bikes but looking for first hand advice.
  4. Spit and polish after a cruise around the block
  5. Besides Mavic SL's (with proprietary spokes) which other rims after full USTNOTAPEANDOTHERCRAPNEEDED??
  6. Netflix costs me just over R100 a month, I use unotelly for the DNS thingy and that's just over R50 a month. 4mb adsl 60gig cap and it's more than enough for me. Still have Dstv cause my wife thinks we need it. I use PayPal for both services
  7. Sadly another bike jacking in the south, this time at the Vlei bike park @ Rietvlei zoo: A caution to users of the walking and cycle trails at Rietvlei not to carry any valuables with them and to be cautious and aware of their surroundings at all times. On Friday afternoon at approximately 15h00 i was cycling on the green route by rietvlei zoo farm when i was confronted by 4 brazen males (two from the front and two from the back on a particularly narrow part of the trail) who demanded my vaulables and bike. Fortunately all remained calm and the incident did not become violent .Unfortunately the boundary on the side of the trail is unsecured and whatever fencing that was installed has disintegrated and not been maintained. The perperpetrators are obviously knowledgeable about the property, routes and what potential victims and valuables are to be had. While security personnel are present on the site, they are not present on the trails and their speed of response on being alerted leaves a lot to be desired. While security did take me on a tour of the back of the property by Liefde en Vrede, they did not appear to be very observant as they were eating while driving. There was no sense of urgency or interest in finding and detaining the perpetrators. Despite hearing stories to the contrary, the cycle shop claimed that there had been no other incidents in the last two years . Up to now i have not heard a word from management at Rietvlei!
  8. Anybody out there with a giant BMX?? If so is it any good??
  9. Are the WL's true tubeless (or what ever its called?) or do you have to run tape and all that other stuff to seal them proper?
  10. The Doc, out of curiosity, I'm trying marathon for the first time. When I mix it, it seems like the powder takes forever to dissolve! Is this normal? It also seems to foam helluva lot, more so when compared to the carbo fuel?
  11. Got some extra Christmas beetle protein with my marathon passion fruit, hopefully it give me wings.
  12. Agreed, getting cadence is like a 45 min trek for me, and stock isn't guaranteed at cyclelab. Residing in JHB South
  13. Yah fair enough, I don't do a great deal of either, most of my riding is XC. I wont run these on the back again regardless .
  14. So here is a pick of my Race king sitting on the rear. I got it in November '14 if i remember correctly, the previous one got slit open while riding over some debris in a veld (my fault). I haven't posted any pics of the X king (installed in October '14) on the front as it is still in mint condition. http://i62.tinypic.com/2pqt0ug.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/ifn511.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/o7py4z.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/2uj5vdi.jpg You can see who the side wall is starting to go kaput, and the nylon reinforcement is starting to show more and more. The missing knobs I have no clue about. I have been riding Conti's for years and have never had the problem. As I said previously, the LBS reckons its from road riding but I spend less time on tar now than before.
  15. I have this combo and it works well. I just find that the race king sidewall doesn't last as long as the tread. What I also found, I have patches of tyre / knobblies missing from the race king. The LBS says its from riding on the road, if it is its sucks as the road trip to the local bike park is less than 5km there and back.
  16. There have been about 5 jacking in Jozi south in the past few weeks, the latest one: ""I'm the guy that got jacked this AM. On the track parallel to the R59 highway on my way back home. Was into my last 10km. 3 guys with a knife, stick and beer bottle jumped me. Tried to stab me and I used my viper as a real race weapon. Tried fighting them off but eventually had to give them my bike. They searched me and took my iPhone, my kit and spare tube. Then told me to walk away from them. Which I did. Once I was a safe distance from them I ran onto the highway and signalled some cars. I thought no one would stop but about 5 cars stopped to assist me.within about 4 mins my bike had been recovered and the real heroes here are the people that stopped to help me. They ran into the veld to confront the perpetrators and retrieved my bike. One of the guys who stopped has a reservist friend, who arrived about 5 mins later and apprehended one of the suspects. We were then tracking them via the find my iphone app. Lost my phone - but faith in humanity restored. To the guy in the Springbok shirt, the black couple, and to Linda and Jonathan I'd like to send my heartfelt thanks. There were about 7 or 8 selfless people who risked their own safety to help me. Those type of people make this country work. I wish I'd gotten all their names and numbers so that I could thank them directly."""
  17. SNAP! Let me know what the GEAX tyres are like. Enjoy the ride!
  18. Luckily im not a wheightweenie, if you see my gut you''l understand why. Im looking for a UST tyre that doesn't require a degree to fit onto wide lightning rims in the near future. Puncture sealant is a must for me but i hate having to send my rim in each time I need a new tyre to get the tubeless kit sorted.
  19. So can anyone recommend true UST, TUBLESS proper, NO LIQUID etc etc needed XC tyres??? There just never seems to be enough clarity on this stuff, especially on manufacturer websites.
  20. What you mean by Unlike?? have you had bad luck with the Conti's, I find that my side walls always wear down much quicker than the tread
