  1. If they were on bikes, surely that means they are cyclists?
  2. Yep. Tannie Helen is a keen cyclist and has been riding with Cycle Lab Club in CT for several months. Check their newsletters. I think there was an article on Cycle Nation about her, too...
  3. Tried it and I reckon it's typical "snake-oil"...
  4. Probably met them on their second lap...
  5. Godzille started training a few months ago and there was never any intention of her riding the whole Argus. It was a well known fact that she would be switching to a tandem. I must admit I was surprised when I heard earlier that week that Fikile Mbalula would be riding, but again it was no secret he would be switching to a tandem after the PR send off. So no conspiracies there, I'm afraid. Would you have preferred them to have done the whole distance is Mokonyane's brand new R1.3M+ G class Merc?
  6. Blue Route was much slower this year on the tandems, allowing the group to rebunch. Got dropped on Smitswinkel, meaning a hard ride back and squeezed in at 2:59:07...
  7. Send tghem your query. Be polite. Be patient. They will sort it out. RaceTec are very good with this sort of thing.
  8. You are SO wrong. Major respect to you and all thr guyswho suffered in those conditions for that long and had the will to finish! The pros get the recognition. You guys get the glory...
  9. At least I don' t ride in my Epic finisher's shirt. And I certainly won't cycle in the Sub3 kit...
  10. This was in the news a couple of weeks ago: http://www.iol.co.za/business/business-news/owning-a-car-is-more-pricey-in-sa-1.1235367 And the author of the piece is not to be sniffed at...

This moronic reply shows you have no clue what you are talking about. Where do your two brain cells make the connection between some cyclists who may (or may not) be Cycle Lab members riding badly and the club being deur die ***? I once broke up a fist fight between two Standard Bank club members and a passing motorist phoned Cycle Lab to say he had seen their members fighting in the road. The biggest target is always the easiest to shoot for.

Cycle Lab takes this sort of thing VERY seriously. Email Ali Mclean (clubpr@cyclelab.com).
  13. And where exactly in Cape Town is this?
  14. My tandem partner rides MTB here every Monday morning and loves it..
  15. It's either a law or it ain't. I've arrested a cyclist who gave me uphill for not wearing a helmet. R200 admission of guilt, if I remember rightly...
  16. Well done and thanks to you and your team for doing more than just talking and criticising...
  17. Very rocky isn't a problem - you just have to go slowly. I find the biggest problem are "big hits" - and this can be anything that compresses the tyre too much: a rock, lip of a kerb, side of a drainage ditch, ... Since the CX tyre is of a much smaller volume, its propensity to snake bite in these cases is large. I have done some severly technical, rocky stuff and gotten away with it. I have also hit a kerb wrong and punctured...
  18. And the fact that some of us have CX bikes that we have carefully compared with our standard road bikes...
  19. You don't need cantis - I replaced mine with V brakes and boosters. The problems will be: - front fork won't have clearance for a 33mm+ tyre (you could buy a CX one, though); - no bosses front or back to mount cantis or V brakes - no mud clearance for side-pulls; - wrong headset angle in the front; - no clearance at back for a 33mm+ tyre; - cabling probably runs under the frame (not on top like a Cx/MTB); - lower BB clearance than on a CX bike.
  20. I lost mine about 5 years ago. MY LBS told me it wan't necessary and after a few thousand kms (Epib, Joburg2c, Sani2c, ...) I have to agree...
  21. Maybe because cycling is the new golf?
  22. CC's customer service is ****. They don't give a rat's bum about the participants. Don't even bother trying to ask them for assistance. I also had an incident with their cr@p timing picking up my tandem partner at the finish and me DNFing. They just told me it was all my fault - despite me correctly using one of their chip mounts... No matter what their other faults, at least Racetec and Spectrum Sport are prepared to sort out issues..
