My 78kg 46 year old back has hadno problems ona 26" HT! HTFU as they say! ;-)
  2. Get well, Ertjies! Thoughts with you and your family!
  3. We also use the BBB tristop. An excellent brake pad. As eccentric says, tandems use normal components with twice the forces. You will chow through your brakepads so check them regularly and make sure they are correctly aligned...
  4. Tyre liners on a road bike are more trouble than they are worth. I find they actually end up cutting or rubbing through the tube after a while. We weigh about 160kgs (mens tandem) and ride Conti Gator 28 back and 25 front at 120psi. We have very few punctures (touch wood), but at the beginning of last year we punctured at practically every outing!
  5. Except, of course, using Bing means the map reference doesn't work. Typical M$...
  6. But she disappears... dead... whoooo hoooo..... Unlike the smiling, happy helmet wearers earlier on! Too subtle for some, I reckon!
  7. Pitch up to registration and pay the exhorbitant late entry fee. Easy...
  8. Yep - I asked on of the tandems in our group not to throw his sachets away after he had thrown one away. It takes everyone who is concerned about the issue to stand up and let the pigs know it is not acceptable and teach them the lessons their mothers should have taught them. BTW, there are a lot of MTB pigs as well, so the title is a little off...
  9. # is often used for tandems in the bigger races..
  10. Yep. Agreed. It is often impossible to run on the pavement, so that's why I only slagged off the runners who obstruct the road (just like the cyclists who do so)...
  11. A bicycle is defined in the Road Traffic Act as a pedal cycle and is defined as a vehicle under the act and are governed by the act. So bicycles have to obey all the regulations of the act - the primary one being "keep left". So as a vehicle, bicycles must act as a vehicle. Riding contraflow is an offense just as driving a motor vehicle contraflow is. Runners are not allowed on public roads. They are expected to keep to the pavements like all pedestrians, so the direction of their travel is not determined by the act. However, many runners break the law by running on a public road, which is in itself and offense (it's called "jaywalking"), but the direction in which they break the law is of no consequence. Since they are not a vehicle, they are not expected to keep left. I suppose the reason many runners run into oncoming traffic is that they want to see the car that hits them. And if you think cyclists are stupid on the road, runners often are a lot worse. Disclaimer: I am a cyclist and think cyclists who ride into oncoming traffic are morons. I also run and think that runners who hog the road as if it belongs to them are also morons.
  12. Still no news, but the latest on John from Ali: "John has 2 broken ribs, one punctured lung. On drain, Elaine says he seems to be ok. More xrays later to ensure draining as it should be."
  13. Latest is compressed vertebrae with fluid on the lungs being drained. And some really nasty road rash. All the best, John!
  14. We suddenly had a racing tandem no one knows or saw beating the lead group and doing a 2:18!
  15. Gawd this is funny!
  16. John Edwards from Cycle Lab. According to Ali he's in Krugersdorp hospital undergoing a scan. She says he's ok, but a little confused.
  17. LOL! Did that on Monday!
  18. I concur. I get this every time and just press OK. Never had a problem.
  19. Hope you're ok. Bad news...
  20. Tea, coffee, water, oros...
  21. +1. He really is impressive..

    Ride for Sight

    Ride for Sight

Sorry - we promise we'll try to never do that again ...
  25. Comment: tough. Encouragement: you will survive. It's a great race. I just hope it doesn't p*ss down like last year!
