  1. That dirt section DOES separate the men from the boys. As my dear old Mum used to say: "Toughen the **** up!"
  2. Again, I don't see much of an issue for the Shova. We start with a 14km climb and the bunches will break up. So smaller tandem groups will be passing smaller licensed groups. Because we are not licensed and the licensed riders start first...? As for seedings, a lot of the tandems have seedings considerably lower than those of the licensed riders ahead. So should they only allow tandems into the TL group based on seeding alone? Don't you think you are making an issue out of nothing? Imagine if we started at the back of the field!!!! Even worse: the one race we started WITH the single bikes. The crash was inevitable and we limped home with a broken wheel... When they tried that trick at the Mtn2Mtn we refused point blank to start with the single bikes.
  3. +1
  4. I have no problem with the 800. The decision, in my opinion, is whether you want mapping and routing (800), or what I see as the best cycling computer out there (500). To me the mapping is important, so I went for the 800. This talk of the 800 being "fragile" for MTB confuses me as it's basically the same package as the 500. I have not yet come across any evidence to support this claim, so I cannot figure out on what basis (if any) it is made...
  5. Because Cycle Lab doesn't do the timing, so they only get the results when the timing company passes them on...
  6. It's not too much of a problem if we start behind the licensed groups as long as their commissaires stop them from jumping in with us and interfering with our race (as happened at the D2D where the top 3 vets C "cheated").
  7. Cycle Lab is at the end of the chain. They depend on the event organisers and the timing companies for the results, so complain to them...
  8. Hey, great idea! Any Hubbers in the Emmarentia area interested? We could hit the Spruit near Emmarentia Dam...
  9. I'm glad someone realised the irony!
  10. It is - quite possibly. Depending on the sealant. CO2 can coagulate latex based sealants - I read somewhere it has something to do with the CO2 going into solution and forming an acid, thus reducing the pH and turning the latex into rubber. I believe you can get N2O bombs that won't do this, but it's probably cheaper to just replace the sealant if you bomb regularly (you should do so anyway). As for the brand - this'll happen to any latex based sealant, no matter how much people vouch for it. Chemistry in one bottle is equivalent to chemistry in another..
  11. Yeah! The "Roubaix" section adds character. As for the Suikerbosrand, the race would be nothing without it. IMHO too many organisers are trying to get numbers up by making the routes flat and fast. R4V mixes these up quite successfully, I think...
  12. Lekker race! Luckily we had the traditional wind to welcome us (not). The road has been fixed in a lot of places (one or two ongoing roadworks). Great marshalling and good organisation. The rumblestrips were not too bad, but thanks for the heads up on that one. This combination is making this a "must do" race... All they need to do now is get rid of Entelect (they stuffed up registration royally).
  13. Good to have seen you Daniel. Pity you dropped your lady-friend!!! I escorted her home...
  14. I went to register today and what a stuff up. No prizes for guessing that Entelect have stuffed up again. They could not match up tandem partners (what's the use of registering as a tandem, then?), so we had to do it manually at registration. This is exactly the same problem as last year, so it looks like Entelect has perfected the flat learning curve. You'd reckon they could have sorted that out in a year...
  15. In an ideal world they would be charged. In SA not...
  16. For a strong group try Illovo. For less so to social try Dunkeld. Illovo rides all year round...
  17. Jules, does this mean your Cycle Lab socks will be worth more or less after the settlement?
  18. I'll go against the consensus here and says it's fugly... The shoes ARE cool, though... Having said that, I do know some guys whose family jewels would have been saved some trauma by that stem (or lack thereof)...
  19. Then stick to a Serfas or a Momsen. **** - I forgot - Momsen is giving free bikes away to Brandon... Dunlop from Game is also a good option. I'm sure none of the pro's are racing those.
  20. I'll be riding my cyclocross bike to the MTN Bike Park to help with the SA Guide Dogs dog walk fundraiser they're having there. If you want to join in, bring your pooch and fifty bucks for the association for a 3km walk. I believe there will be lots of giveaways. From 08:00 on Sunday... hint... hint...
  21. Lucky bugger! I was hoping... Enjoy!!!
  22. This is a fallacy. The stench is caused by old bacteria and sweat. Shower before you ride, then take a facecloth and wipe yourself down in the washroom sink when you get to work (make sure you cool down a little first). Then an application of deodorant and you'll be perfect for the day. A shower is nice, but certainly not a necessity...
  23. Litter pigs p*ss me off as well. They usually are the type of scum who will give you attitude when you point out what they are doing is wrong. I often wonder if they act the same way at home...
  24. I use the weldtight ones shown above and have inserted five of six (I can't remember exactly how many) into a cut and they sealed enough for me to get home...
  25. Where did you get told that!? I know several members of Capri and there's no way their D group does that speed! I've never ridden with that specific group, but they're quite relaxed... Their B group doesn't even do 30kph...
