  1. even though I don't touch alcohol!
  2. In the 2007 (or 2006?) Sabie X that I rode, the second day was shortened and the race called off as the one river crossing was impassible due to heavy rains...
  3. Roadies in snow..
  4. <TROLL> So now it's official: MTBers are bigger woesies than roadies. </TROLL>
  5. You were always friendly when I rode with you in Midrand - even when you were turning on the pain. I miss those days!
  6. I rode with Cycle Lab this morning in the C1 group. We stopped at EVERY red traffic light. That's because we have been instructed to do so and our marshals are required to do so by the Club. The people that went through the red lights were people outside Clubs like yourself. It seems you lot feel like you can do whatever the damn you like, then if you have a problem with it, you blame the clubs who are trying to instil some discipline in their members. You obviously did not manage to read my rely. I apologise - it was more than five words and several of them were polysyllabic. I did not take issue with the first part of the statement, but with the statement as a whole. I attempted to explain that one gets a lot more for R950 (for new members) or R450 (for existing members) than "a tent". I can draw a picture for you, if required. As for the "social crap", I'm not surprised you have to ride by yourself... You speak ****... Plain and to the point. You state you don't ride with Clubs, but yet you seem to know more about them than the people who do.
  7. What a tjop. 1. Speak to Ali at Cycle Lab. she works her butt off trying to make the Club rides safer. You obviously have no idea how Clubs work as both Cycle Lab and Club 100 are very strict on this. Not perfect, but they try their damndest. 2. R1000 for a tent? Where do you get this factiod from, you ignoramus? Cycle Lab is R950 to join or R450 for renewal. The R950 includes a set of club kit. For R450, you get catering at the Argus, 94.7, Tour Durban and Amashova. Also Club tents (with drinks) at several other races (road - there's also a **** load of stuff for MTBers). Plus the Ride mag subscription, plus Think Bike marshals and Club marshals every Saturday for the road ride. Plus talks, freebies, ... 3. Ditto for 1. I presume your imagination couldn't figure out another "fact". What I find weird is the tormented poeples (as in poep-holes) like you who complain usually never belong to a Club, anyway... that's probably why you've got no ****ing idea what you are rambling on about. So to answer the original poster: both are great Clubs which cater for beginners to advanced. Go to each one's Club rides and make your own decison.
  8. Not anymore. MTBers are all arrogant fashionistas nowdays. If you're looking for relaxed, friendly guys then ride on the road...
  9. Surely if they don't have to pay for gearing and the maintenance thereof, they can now afford the entry fees? Why not give the entries to a far more deserving - and hardcore - group: the 26", 27 speed hardtail guys? They really get given a hard time nowadays...
  10. I have the 7' Venter with a 5 bike rack and it's brilliant. With a slight extension on the rack, my tandem fits, too!
  11. Victor has many years experience with Raleigh and (I believe) Volcan. I can't imagine him speccing cr@p and then putting his name on it. I've looked at his bikes and they are good quality at a good price.
  12. I was in the bunch. The guy tossed by the Eland was Flip (really!) Krugel from Mr Price. He got up and continued. Not so lucky was Bryan Samson in the breakaway bunch up ahead who also got nailed by another Eland and broke his pelvis. Owww... If you look at the end of the video, Bryan is the guy in the old orange Cycle Lab Vets 40+ kit to whom they are applying the most relevant first aid for a fractured pelvis; a cool (?) water bottle!
  13. Rumour has it that the higher volume tyres are specifically designed to be filled with helium which will allow for more "float" and enable you to glide over obstacles even more easily...
  14. It looks like one of those "angled" trick shots to me. I reckon they put Andrew Mclean on a 26er and rigged the shot...
  15. Parking was chaotic. We got waved through the Pelindaba Road/Tracking Station Road intersection 5kms from the end by one marshal just as another was waving a big ****ing Audi through across our path. We missed him by the skin of our teeth... Otherwise a good race, apart from me falling to bits up Hekpoort. I nearly died on the the final climb to the finish.
  16. Only those who take their superstitions too seriously...
  17. If you reckon it costs as much to equip one cyclist as it does twenty to forty runners...

    PVM and the Jungle bars...
  20. Having a bad day? You say this even after Action Photo have sorted the problem out?
  21. Pretty rich from a guy who made millions buying Taiwanese bits and pieces and sticking a Raleigh badge on them...
  22. +1 Doctors are trained to take educated guesses and "follow procedure" - usually leading to a procedure from one of their mates. Get a good sports physio. Mine recommended me to a podiatrist for my problem and it got solved without cutting.
  23. My road training bike is a Raleigh and I've done over 40000kms on it. My MTB is a Raleigh and I've done Epic, Sabie Experience, Joberg2c, Sani2c and gawd alone knows how many other single and multi-day races on it. They're like VWs. Nothing fancy, they make a lot of funny noises, but you've got to ride over them with a train to stop them... Oh. And my tandem is a Raleigh.
  24. Having experienced the amazing service the Helivac marshals provide, all I can say is thanks. Your guys are amazing...
  25. I agree it was done differently in the past, but still my point remains that it is a reasonable change and will make little or no difference to the tandem race or safety as long as the commissaires enforce the rules.
